Here are commonly asked questions and scenarios, we have encountered time and time again, and successfully resolved.  Canadian companies looking for a Canadian or US executive / board member with possible relocation: 

  • Are there Canadians to fill this exec or board role?
  • How do these Canadian execs compare with available US talent?
  • Are there Canadian expats itching to get back to Canada? This is often a “long shot” but when it works, it works beautifully.
  • Can the executive relocate? Can the board member regularly attend our board meetings in person?

 

Canadian companies looking for US execs and board members: Canadian companies often look for US talent, usually starting with sales execs in the US and later for other roles, as they scale:

  • Can we get a top tier executive or board member interested in our company (and available to travel to our location)?
  • Will this US talent be too expensive? Will they stick around?
  • Will they be “Canadian” friendly enough to fit with us?

 

US Parent looking for executives in Canadian divisions: their key questions are: 

  • Is there talent in Canada for our role (could be a country manager, an MD for technology for an investment bank, or any other role)
  • Will they be “on-par” with our other executives and be able to communicate with us?
  • Often the key issue in this scenario is a primarily Canadian search consultant not communicating with the US headquarters, and not taking both positions into account. Getting agreement up front speeds this up immensely.
  • Or it could be a US recruiter that has not dealt with the Canadian market.
