General Electric Appoints CTO of GE IT and CIO for GE Power

Chris Drumgoole has been appointed VP and CTO of GE IT. Drumgoole joined GE in April of 2014, and most recently he served as GE IT's COO focused on transforming IT across GE. Drumgoole is a longtime cloud expert and pioneer who most recently held the position of SVP, Global Operations and COO, Verizon Terremark, before joining GE. Drumgoole was working as SVP, Engineering and Product Development at Terremark Worldwide when Verizon bought the company.

Clay Johnson, 45, has been appointed VP and CIO for GE Power. Before joining GE in July of 2014, Johnson served as VP, IT for the Boeing Company and director of IT for Dell Corporation.

Qualcomm Names New CIO

Qualcomm has named technology-industry veteran Mary Gendron as its new CIO. She replaces former CIO Norm Fjeldheim, who left in December after 17 years at the company to lead IT at Illumina. Prior to Qualcomm, Gendron served as CIO at biotech drug and medical device firm Hospira since September 2014. She has also held senior IT management roles at Celestica, Motorola Solutions, and BCE, or Bell Canada, over a 25-year career in enterprise technology.

Boston Scientific Appoints CIO from Within Ranks

Jodi Euerle Eddy was promoted to CIO and SVP at Boston Scientific. Previously, she was the company's VP of IS sales and marketing, and business intelligence. Earlier, she was Commercial CIO at GE Oil & Gas.

Hitachi Promotes R&D Exec as CTO         

Hitachi has promoted its GM, Global Center for Social Innovation, R&D Group and GM of Central Research Library Norihiro Suzuki as CTO and GM of R&D group. Earlier he served as Research Director, Information Systems Research Lab.

BHP Billiton’s New CTO is former OnStar Connected Car Exec

Diane Jurgens has been appointed to the role of CTO, reporting to the CEO, and will continue to be based in Singapore. Jurgens joined BHP late last month from telematics service OnStar, a subsidiary of General Motors, where she spent three years leading its connected car business.

T-Mobile US CIO to Depart  

Gary A. King, EVP and CIO will terminate his employment with T-Mobile US. He was formerly CIO of Chico's FAS. Prior to joining Chico’s in 2004, he had various roles at Barnes & Noble, including CIO and helping build and manage the company’s e-commerce platforms at Before joining the bookseller, he worked as VP of global IT at Avon Products.

BB&T Corporation Announces CIO Changes

BB&T Corporation appoints Barbara Duck to the role of CIO. Duck will lead IT Services, the Enterprise Data Office, and the Enterprise Program and Change Office. She also will be responsible for the company's digital channels, including online and mobile, to enable a common platform to support the digital experience for clients and associates. She joined the company's Leadership Development Program in 1988 and started her 28-year BB&T career as a branch manager. Duck succeeds Paul W. Johnson, who will retire as CIO, after 16 years of service to the company.

Deutsche Bank Appoints CIO amidst Reshuffling of Corporate Rank         

Deutsche Bank has hired Rene Keller as CIO for its private, wealth & commercial clients division. Keller, who for the past two years has overseen IT as group CIO at Germany-based financial marketplace operator Deutsche Börse, steps into the role on June 1. He was previously COO at Information Mosaic and has worked as a senior IT manager at Swiss Life Holding AG, Credit Suisse Group AG and UBS Group AG

Sealed Air Names New VP and CIO 

Sealed Air has named Edwina Payne as its new VP and CIO. She will relocate with her family from Warsaw, where she worked at Zimmer Biomet. Payne will be responsible for implementing Sealed Air's information systems strategy to improve the company's profitability through new technology. As CIO at Zimmer Biomet, Payne led the company's successful IT integration.

CIO of Skanska USA Adds on Global CIO Role       

Skanska announced that Jaroslaw Urbaczyk has been appointed SVP IT. Urbaczyk succeeds Kevin Hutchinson who currently holds the position together with the role as CIO at Skanska USA. Kevin will going forward remain in his role as CIO at Skanska USA.

CF Industries Holdings Names Former Medtronic Exec as VP and CIO    

CF Industries Holdings named Tom Grooms as VP and CIO. Grooms succeeds Kirk Siefkas, who will be retiring later in 2016. Prior to joining CF, Grooms was VP and CIO of Valspar. Previously, he served in various IT leadership roles with Medtronic.

Zayo Group Holdings Appoints CTO with Experience in the Wireless and Broadband Industries

Zayo Group Holdings has named Dave Jones as CTO. As CTO, Jones is responsible for the overall technical direction of the company and for working with Zayo’s various product groups to execute on that direction. He is also responsible for cyber security and the enterprise IT infrastructure, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Jones has more than 25 years of experience in the wireless and broadband industries.

American Axle & Manufacturing’s Driveline Product Engineering VP Adds on CTO Role

American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings announced the expanded role of Philip R. Guys, adding the responsibility and title of CTO to his current role of VP – Driveline Product Engineering. Guys will continue to have responsibility for AAM's global driveline product and advanced engineering organization, which includes over 1,500 engineers, scientists and technologists located in 14 technology and development centers around the world.

Hudson Bay Exec Joins Finish Line as Chief Information and Technology Officer 

Retail chain Finish Line has hired AJ Sutera as EVP, Chief Information and Technology Officer. Prior to joining the company, Sutera held several senior leadership roles within Hudson’s Bay Company from 2007 to 2016 in support of a seamless omnichannel customer experience. He also served as senior director of business solutions and technology at JetBlue Airways, senior director of business technology solutions at Liberty Travel/GOGO Worldwide Vacations in addition to CIO for GlobalWorks Group and various management positions with Volvo North America and General Electric earlier in his career.

Battery Maker Exide Names CIO from Michelin Group

Exide Technologies has named Sean Burke as chief information and digital officer, to leverage digitization to kick-start renewed growth in the wake of bankruptcy, restructuring and regulatory woes in recent years. Burke is a veteran business IT manager, who for the past three years has overseen infrastructure strategy and services as CTO of the Michelin Group. Prior to Michelin, Burke was CTO at French cement and concrete firm LaFarge S.A., from 2009 to 2013. He has also worked in senior IT management at Galderma S.A. and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

The Central Intelligence Agency’s New CIO is an Intelligence Community IT Pro

The CIA has named John G. Edwards as its new CIO. Edwards, a veteran enterprise technology manager with a mix of public- and private-sector experience, took over the position, replacing former CIO Doug Wolfe, who is taking on a separate senior position within the agency. Wolfe had led agency IT since October 2013.

Edwards has over 20 years of experience working in technology for the federal government, including six years as a senior official in the Office of the Director of Central Intelligence starting after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He spent the previous 15 years overseeing technical operations and engineering support at the CIA, according to Agilex Technologies, an IT services firm, where he has served as president of the intelligence, security and defense sector for the past seven years.

Seattle Children's Hospital Appoints Interim CIO to Permanent CIO Role    

Seattle Children's announced that Jeff Brown has been appointed to the position of SVP and CIO. Brown has filled the CIO role at Seattle Children's on an interim basis since April 2015.

Former HP Enterprise Group CIO Joins Skin Care Firm Rodan & Fields

Ralph Loura, former CIO of Clorox and HP enterprise group, joined skin care firm Rodan & Fields as CTO. Loura left HP shortly after the company split. At Clorox, he was promoted to SVP and added to the company’s executive committee, the first time at the company IT was represented on the executive committee directly.

California CIO Set to Retire

Carlos Ramos, a veteran public-sector technology manager who held the state’s top IT spot for nearly five years, will leave the CIO role at the State of California. He has led agency consolidation efforts launched by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
