Google Search Chief to be replaced by Artificial Intelligence Head; Company Names Leader for Newly Created Virtual Reality Arm

Google parent Alphabet said Amit Singhal, the longtime chief of its Internet search business, will leave the company and be replaced by the head of the technology giant's artificial intelligence business. John Giannandrea, currently a VP of engineering, will replace Singhal, a 15-year Google veteran. The appointment of Giannandrea, who joined Google in 2010, underlines the growing importance Silicon Valley is attaching to artificial intelligence technology. Giannandrea led Google's machine learning efforts, applying the technology to products such as image recognition for Google Photos search and the smart reply for Google Inbox.

Google has created a virtual reality (VR) computing division and said Clay Bavor, the executive running its product management team, will run the new arm as VP of Virtual Reality at Google. As VP of product management, Bavor oversaw some of Google's key apps, including Gmail, Google Drive and Google Docs.

Target CHRO Joins Alibaba Group as SVP, HR

Alibaba Group appointed Jodee Kozlak as Global SVP of Human Resources. Kozlak will be responsible for helping to build the company’s international leadership team as the company continues to expand globally. Kozlak’s appointment highlights the company’s strong commitment to globalizing its business. Kozlak previously served as EVP and CHRO for Target Corporation.          

Priceline Group Appoints Salesforce’s CMO as Board Member

The Priceline Group named Lynn M. Vojvodich, EVP and Chief Marketing officer of, as The Priceline Group's newest Director. Prior to her role at, Vojvodich served as a partner at Andreessen Horowitz where she helped companies build their go-to-market strategies.

PayPal Adds Tech Entrepreneur to Board; Promotes VP, Global Platform & Infrastructure to CTO

PayPal has appointed Wences Casares, 41, to its Board of Directors. Casares is a successful international fintech entrepreneur and recognized next-generation payment and crypto-currency thought leader. He is the founder and CEO of Xapo, a company that provides the tools people need to purchase bitcoins and then manage them through an easy-to-use online wallet. Casares has founded successful technology and financial ventures in the U.S., South America and Europe. He founded Argentina’s first ISP as well as Latin America’s premier online brokerage, Patagon. He later founded Banco Lemon, a Brazilian retail bank, as well as mobile payments companies Bling Nation and Lemon Wallet, which was acquired in 2013.

PayPal appointed Sri Shivananda, currently the company's VP, Global Platform & Infrastructure, as the new SVP and CTO. Shivananda's appointment follows the decision by current CTO, James Barrese, to step down to take time off. During his nearly 15-year tenure at the company, Shivananda led eBay's Global Platform and Infrastructure (GPI) team that powered both the eBay and PayPal businesses. After successfully guiding his team through separation, Shivananda joined PayPal as VP of GPI reporting to Barrese.

William Ready, the Company's SVP, Global Head of Product and Engineering, will lead the payment services functions previously led by Barrese in addition to his current responsibilities.     

Infosys Appoints Global Head of Digital Business

Infosys has appointed Scott Sorokin as global head of its digital business. Sorokin was Chief Strategy Officer at Razorfish, a digital agency that is part of French advertising giant Publicis Groupe.

eBay Appoints Former Yahoo! Public Policy Leader for Government Relations

Tekedra Mawakana, an experienced public policy leader has joined eBay as its new VP of Government Relations. She will lead legislative, policy, antitrust and government affairs for eBay forging relationships with government officials and other stakeholders around the world. Tekedra was previously global head of Public Policy at Yahoo!. She has also previously held a number of legal and policy roles at AOL.

Charles Schwab Resigns From Yahoo! Board; Company Appoints New Head of Global Public Policy

Charles Schwab notified Yahoo! that he was resigning from Yahoo’s Board, due to his other professional commitments and demands on his time. In connection with Schwab’s resignation from the Board, the Board appointed Maynard G. Webb, Jr., a current director of the Company, to the Audit Committee of the Board.

Yahoo! promoted April Boyd to Head, Global Public Policy. Boyd served as Senior Director of Federal Government Affairs of Yahoo! since October 2012. She served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for legislative and intergovernmental affairs at Yahoo!. She also worked as national press secretary for Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass; and Chief of Staff for former Rep. Ellen O. Tauscher, D-Calif.

Expedia Expands Board; Appoints Liberty Nominee and Two Others as Newest Board Members

Online travel company Expedia expanded the size of the Board from ten to thirteen members and elected Susan C. Athey, Christopher W. Shean and Alexander von Furstenberg to fill the newly-created directorships. None of the new directors has been appointed to serve as a member of any committee of the Board of Directors. As a result of the increased size of the Board, Liberty Interactive Corporation has the right to nominate three directors. Liberty has designated Shean as a Liberty nominee (along with currently serving Liberty nominees Pamela L. Coe and John C. Malone).

Dr. Athey has served as a professor at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business since 2013, where she is also the co-director of the Digital Business Initiative.

Shean has served as a SVP of Liberty Media Corporation (including its predecessor) since May 2007, the CFO since November 2011 and the Controller from May 2007 to October 2011.

Alexander von Furstenberg currently serves as Chief Investment Officer of Ranger Global Advisors, a family office focused on value-based investing, which he founded in June 2011.              

Twitter Goes Through Several Senior Management Changes

Twitter appointed its first CMO, Leslie Berland, who will spearhead a much-needed marketing push for the social network as it tries to buoy its user growth. At American Express, Berland has been the EVP in charge of global advertising, marketing and digital advertising

Twitter has appointed its commerce chief Nathan Hubbard as interim media head. Hubbard joined Twitter in 2013 to lead the company’s commerce initiatives after almost seven years at LiveNation, where he was most recently the top exec at Ticketmaster.  

Hubbard's appointment comes after media head Katie Jacobs Stanton, product VP Kevin Weil, Engineering Head Alex Roetter, and Head of HR Skip Schipper, will be leaving. Jason Toff, GM of Vine and director of product management is also leaving to work at Google on virtual reality efforts.

COO Adam Bain will now oversee media, HR and "revenue-related" products on a temporary basis. CTO Adam Messinger will take on a number of product-related duties, including the company's mobile development platform, Fabric.

Lululemon Gets More Digital With Hire of Former Target Digital Exec

Clothing company Lululemon has hired former Target digital executive Alan Wizemann to run a new digital product group. Wizemann will be VP of guest experience and digital product management. Wizemann has worked with Target since 2012 as VP of Product, & Mobile. Previously, he founded several startups like ShopIgniter, Event Space, Band Buzz and Loft Rent.

Voya Financial Appoints Nielsen Exec as Chief Digital Officer

Voya Financial announced that Joseph Miranda has joined the company in the newly created position of Chief Digital Officer. Previously, Miranda was VP, global digital marketing and VP, channel development at Nielsen.

Peugeot Citroen Appoints Yahoo! Exec as Digital Chief

Brigitte Cantaloube has been appointed Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of Peugeot Citroen. Most recently, she was VP and Commercial Director for EMEA at Yahoo. In 2006, she joined Yahoo France as Commercial Director, becoming Managing Director and VP of Sales as of 2009. Before that, she was Sales Director of French weekly L'Express. Cantaloube began her career with the Expansion media group in 1992, first as a Sales Executive, then as Sales Director, and became Partnerships and Marketing Director of the group's Internet subsidiary in 2000. Russian Internet company Group has appointed Yury Gurskiy the V for new products. The new VP will be responsible for the development of messenger and navigation services, as well as for the launch of other new products. Gurskiy started working for the Group after the merger with        

GrubHub Appoints President of DEFY Media to Board

Grubhub appointed Keith Richman, 42, as director. Richman is President of DEFY Media, a digital media company. He co-founded Break Media in 2004 and as the CEO was responsible for the overall strategic direction of the business, building it into a 160 person, profitable digital media company. He led the company through its merger with Alloy Digital in 2013.

Yelp CFO to Depart

Yelp announced that CFO Rob Krolik will be stepping down and departing the company in the coming months. Krolik, who joined the company in 2011, will continue as CFO until the earlier of the date a replacement is hired. Separates Chair-CEO Roles; Appoints New Lead Director announced its decision to separate the positions of Chairman and CEO, currently both held by Avishai Abrahami, in order to enable the CEO to fully devote his time, skills and expertise to the continued growth of the company.

Mark Tluszcz has been appointed the Non-Executive Chairman of the board of directors of the company. Avishai Abrahami was appointed as Honorary Chairman in recognition of his importance for the creation and development of the company. In addition, Ron Gutler replaced Mark Tluszcz as the company's new Lead Independent Director.

Former Tinder CEO Payne Joins DoorDash as COO

DoorDash, one of the many startups aimed at restaurant delivery, has hired former Tinder CEO Chris Payne as COO. Payne has a lot of experience in marketplaces and data use, as a former executive at Microsoft and eBay. He was selected as CEO of Tinder last March in the wake of the demotion of co-founder and CEO Sean Rad. But Rad returned as CEO in August, with Payne leaving the company.
