Welcome to our monthly update on CIO/ & Other Tech Roles Turnover. This newsletter covers Tech function roles, including CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, and Head of Tech & Ops, in the 34 days ended January 31st, 2016.

Total Number of Open Roles: 76

New Appointments: 99 [in 97 companies – as 2 companies had more than 1 appointments - Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (WI), Federal Reserve Bank Of Dallas (TX)]

Sources of Appointments: 73 were External appointments, and 26 were internal promotions – iCIOs (2), divisional execs (2), Others (22)

Diversity: Five out of 99 CIOs appointed were women - State of Alabama (AL), Boston Private (MA), Haier America (NJ), Economical Insurance Group (ON), BAFT-IFSA (Washington, DC).

Geographic Distribution75 in the US, two in Canada and 22 International appointments.

According to Liberum, C-Level Changes in January increased 15% from January a year earlier. The month to month changes in executive turnover was a reverse, as C-Level changes declined 22%. Top industry sectors for maximum C-Level turnover were Drugs, Banking and Energy.

Volvo Group Executive Team member Torbjörn Holmström has announced his intention to step down from his position as Volvo Group CTO and EVP Group Trucks Technology. A global search will be conducted during autumn 2015 to identify his successor.

Schneider Electric (Americas),Massachusetts - $27.2B, July 2015   
Schneider Electric is seeking a CISO, Americas, who will be responsible for establishing and maintaining an enterprise-wide information risk security/privacy program while ensuring tight linkage with the overall corporate strategy.

Andrew Lee, Managing Director Online, will be leaving the business at some point in 2016. Crispin Nieboer has been appointed Interim MD of Online, reporting to James Henderson; he is currently responsible for Online's Shoreditch innovation team. A search is underway for a permanent replacement and will consider both internal and external candidates.

Nuance Communications, Massachusetts - $1.9B, May 2015   
Nuance is seeking a CISO who will be a business/technology executive responsible for providing leadership in establishing a comprehensive Information Security and Data Privacy program and ensuring compliance.

Meridian Energy, New Zealand - $1.96B, December 2015       
Glen McLatchie, the General Manager of the Information Communications and Technology business unit, has advised he is leaving Meridian. Glen has been with Meridian since May 2010 and leaves to join SKYCITY as CIO. Glen's resignation will take effect from March 31, 2016.

Corbion has announced that Mr. Sven Thormählen, CTO and member of the company's board of management, is stepping down as board member and will leave the company. His tasks and responsibilities as CTO will temporarily be covered by the CEO of the company.

William Bill Kish is leaving his position as CTO of Ruckus Wireless, to pursue new interests, and has stepped down as a member of the Board of Directors. The company has launched a search for a new CTO who will fuel the next wave of innovation.

Infoblox, California - $306.1M, September 2015 
On September 23, 2015, Sohail M. Parekh notified Infoblox of his decision to step down as EVP, Engineering of the company effective October 5, 2015. Mr. Parekh has agreed to provide transition services thereafter until January 4, 2016. Alan Conley, the Company's CTO, will serve as interim Engineering leader until Mr. Parekh's successor has been appointed.

Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Iowa - $259.7M, December 2015 
On November 30, 2015, Mary Cecola, SVP and Chief Business Technology Officer of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (the Bank), tendered her resignation from the Bank in order to accept the position of CIO at Antares Capital.  Ms. Cecola's resignation will become effective December 11, 2015.

StarTek, Colorado - $252.7M, October 2015       
Kamalesh Dwivedi, the company's CIO, separated from the company effective October 14, 2015.

Philex Mining, Philippines - $187.7M, December 2015    
Philex Mining Corp. announced the resignation of RAYMUND BRETT C. MEDEL as VP and CIO, with effective from January 31, 2016.

Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington, DC - January 2016
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) needs a new CIO to manage the Bureau's growing IT portfolio. Jerome Pender resigned as the FBI CIO in August, 2015. Since then, Brian Truchon, a thirty-year veteran of the Bureau who has been the Assistant Director of its IT Services Division, has been the Acting CIO. Progressive Corp., Ohio - $20.83B, January 2016
The Progressive Corporation announced Steve Broz as its new CIO following the previously announced retirement of Ray Voelker. Voelker retired after 30 years at Progressive, including 15 as CIO. Broz was as a key member of Voelker's senior leadership team heading up the technology group's Enterprise Project Management Office. Liberty Global, UK - $18.29B, January 2016
Veenod Kurup moves to Liberty Global as MD and CIO. Veenod was part of the senior leadership team and reported directly to CEO, John Porter. Veenod Kurup has led the Telenet IT department since May 2013. Veenod will be sharing his experience with Liberty Global, where he will concentrate on the IT strategy of the European offices as MD and CIO.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members.
