Welcome to our monthly update on CIO/ & Other Tech Roles Turnover. This newsletter covers Tech function roles, including CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, and Head of Tech & Ops, in the 34 days ended December 31st, 2015.

Total Number of Open Roles: 95

Newly Opened Roles: 6 - Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (IA), QNB Bank (PA), Brigham and Women's Hospital (MA), Philex Mining (Philippines), MTN Group (South Africa), and Meridian Energy (New Zealand).

New Appointments: 83 (In 78 Companies) - as there are more than one appointment in four companies - Aerohive Networks and Robin Systems (CA), Binatone Telecom (U.K.), Babajob Services (India).

Ruckus Wireless, California - $326.9M, June 2015        
William "Bill" Kish is leaving his position as CTO of Ruckus Wireless, to pursue new interests, and has stepped down as a member of the Board of Directors. The company has launched a search for a new CTO who will fuel the next wave of innovation.

Infoblox, California - $306.1M, September 2015 
On September 23, 2015, Sohail M. Parekh notified Infoblox of his decision to step down as EVP, Engineering of the company effective October 5, 2015. Mr. Parekh has agreed to provide transition services thereafter until January 4, 2016. Alan Conley, the Company's CTO, will serve as interim Engineering leader until Mr. Parekh's successor has been appointed.

Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Iowa - $259.7M, December 2015 
On November 30, 2015, Mary Cecola, SVP and Chief Business Technology Officer of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (the Bank"), tendered her resignation from the Bank in order to accept the position of CIO at Antares Capital.  Ms. Cecola's resignation will become effective December 11, 2015.

StarTek, Colorado - $252.7M, October 2015       
Kamalesh Dwivedi, the company's CIO, separated from the company effective October 14, 2015.

Philex Mining, Philippines - $187.7M, December 2015    
Philex Mining Corp. announced the resignation of RAYMUND BRETT C. MEDEL as VP and CIO, with effective from January 31, 2016.

LogMeIn, Massachusetts - $166.3M, November 2014     
LogMeIn is seeking a CISO to serve as a subject matter expert and leader reporting into the CTO.  The CISO will lead a global team of four and be responsible for the security of LogMeIn’s suite of award winning software products (including secure development), product delivery (NOC), security features of our products (security design), internal infrastructure (development environment), and 3rd party services (CRM’s, etc).

Xunlei Limited, Guangdong Province - $164M, November 2015 
Effective immediately, Xunlei Limited's board of directors has appointed Mr. Lei Chen, the Company's CTO, as Co-CEO. Simultaneously, Mr. Chen resigned as Xunlei's CTO, a post he has held since joining the company in November 2014.

Spark Networks announced that resignation of Gregory J. Franchina as a CIO, delivered a notice of resignation to the Company indicating that he intended to resign from the Company effective as of November 14, 2015. The Company intends to replace Mr. Franchina and has initiated the process of recruiting qualified candidates.

Lantronix, California - $42.9M, August 2015       
Lantronix is seeking a CTO to lead technology direction and roadmap for the company.

QNB Bank, Pennsylvania - $37.1M, December 2015      
On December 9, 2015, Jennifer L. Frost, EVP and Chief Information and Technology Officer of QNB Bank, notified the Bank that she is resigning from this position effective December 22, 2015. Wells Fargo & Company, California - $83.81B, December 2015
Wells Fargo & Company announced that Senior EVP Kevin Rhein, who serves as CIO and head of the Technology & Operations Group (TOG), and as a member of the company’s Operating Committee (OC), will retire at the end of March 2016 after more than 37 years with the company. With Rhein’s retirement, TOG’s three main divisions will move under the responsibility of other members of the company’s Operating Committee, effective February 1, 2016. Enterprise Information Technology, led by Scott Dillon, will report to CFO John Shrewsberry. This change will enhance coordination of Wells Fargo’s strategic initiatives, as the company’s Strategy Group also reports to Shrewsberry. In addition, Dillon will serve as the company’s new CTO.

American Airlines Group, Texas - $41.52B, November 2015   
American Airlines Group announced that Maya Liebman has been promoted to EVP and CIO. Liebman has served as American's CIO four almost four years and she is responsible for all information technology systems. She also oversees the integration of American's and US Airways' technology systems.

Deutsche Bank, Germany - $38.05B, December 2015
Deutsche Bank appoints Pascal Boillat as CIO and Head of Operations, Corporate & Investment Banking. He will join the Bank on 1 February 2016, and report to Kim Hammonds, who will become COO and CIO from 1 January 2016 as previously announced. He will be based in New York until the end of 2016, when he will move to London. Boillat is currently Head of Operations and Technology for the US secondary mortgage market company Fannie Mae, based in Washington.

Avnet, Arizona - $28.05B, December 2015
Avnet named Sean Valcamp to the company’s newly created role of chief information security officer (CISO). Valcamp will be responsible for Avnet’s global IT security in addition to enterprise architecture and strategic planning for IT. In this role, he will report to Steve Phillips, Avnet’s CIO. Valcamp joined Avnet 16 years ago and has significantly strengthened Avnet’s IT security capabilities over the years.

ERGO Versicherungsgruppe, Germany - $26.49B, December 2015   
ERGO announced that Frank Neuroth steps down in mutual agreement from his roles as member of the management boards of several units. Tomasz Smaczny will be CIO of Munich Re's ERGO Insurance Group, effective Jan.  1, 2016. China Information Technology reported that its CTO, Zhiyao Yu, has resigned from his position for personal reasons without disagreements with the company on its operations, policies and practices. The company said that Yu has been replaced, effective December 1, 2015 by the company's chief product officer (CPO), Guangzeng Chen. Chen will also continue as chief product officer of the company. Acting as both the CPO and CTO, Chen will be responsible for development of the company's operating system, enhancement of its terminal mainboard technology, design of standardized hardware terminals, and research and development of the company's cloud-based product offerings. Chen joined CNIT as VP of R&D in March 2014, and was appointed as the company's CPO in June 2015.

Spirent Communications plc announced that it has appointed Kim Fisker as chief technical officer Mobilethink and Tweakker, which form Spirent's device intelligence business unit, effective 1st December, 2015. He began his career as a software developer for digital switch maker Diax of Denmark and quickly progressed to being the firm's team leader for SS7 telephony signaling protocols. When Diax was acquired by Ericsson, he was appointed area software development manager for all products associated with its digital switch platform.

Harsha and Akshat will lead the technology development solutions, while Giri will lead the product agenda, it said in a release. In his new role as the senior VP of engineering at Babajob, Harsha will be bringing his wealth of experience to lead the technology vertical of the company. Prior to his latest appointment, he was assistant vice-president, engineering at Sourcebits. Giridharan, an alumnus of IIM Bangalore, will be driving product and innovation.  He joins Babajob from Simplilearn where he was heading the product vertical. Akshat Kansal, as vice-president of engineering, will be responsible for defining and executing the overall infrastructure, development, operations (DevOps) and scaling activity. Aimbridge Hospitality named Gerard Forster as SVP and CIO. Prior to joining Aimbridge, Forster was a founding partner and VP, information technology at Evolution Hospitality.

Kroll reported that Wayne Peterson has been appointed Chief Information Security Officer, effective immediately. Most recently, Peterson served as SVP and Chief Security Officer for Fidelity National Information Services, (FIS). Andrew Beckett has been appointed Managing Director in the Cyber Security and Investigations practice in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), effective immediately. Most recently, Beckett served as founder and managing director of Regency IT Consulting, a cyber and information assurance consultancy.

Federal Trade Commission, Washington, DC, December 2015 
Federal Trade Commission has appointed Carnegie Mellon University's Lorrie Faith Cranor, professor of computer science and engineering and public policy, as the agency's chief technologist. Cranor, who will be taking a leave from the university, will join the FTC staff in January, succeeding Ashkan Soltani. She will be primarily responsible for advising Ramirez and the commission on developing technology and policy matters. She was previously a researcher at ATandT Labs Research and has also taught at the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Advanced Microgrid Solutions named Alain P. Steven as CTO. Prior to joining AMS, Mr. Steven served as CTO and co-founder of Viridity Energy. He was also CTO and VP of the PJM Interconnection. In addition, he served as President of PJM Technologies, and CEO of Alstom ESCA Corporation.

Robin Systems announced two key additions to the company's executive ranks as Partha Seetala joined Robin as CTO and Razi Sharir joined as VP, Product Management. With more than 16 years of technology and product expertise, Seetala joins Robin from Symantec's information management business, known as Veritas, where he was distinguished engineer and senior director of Engineering, and where he conceived, architected and led engineering teams to take multiple products from concept to market in the scale out storage, distributed systems, content-aware file systems and information analytics space. Sharir, a veteran product management executive, joins Robin from CA Technologies where he led the SaaS Center of Excellence and Product Management for the team which developed a container-based Enterprise PaaS geared for modern application economy.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
