Mondelēz Appoints NIKE’s Ecommerce Exec to Board

The confectionery, food and beverage conglomerate Mondelēz International appointed Christiana Shi, 56, to its Board of Directors. Shi is President, Direct-to-Consumer for NIKE, with oversight for Nike Stores, Nike Factory Stores and Global Digital Commerce, which includes leading all of Nike’s e-commerce business around the world. Prior to that, she was COO, Global Direct to Consumer (DTC) at NIKE. She joined NIKE from McKinsey.

Harris Corporation’s CEO Joins Celanese’s Board

Fortune 500 global technology and specialty materials company Celanese Corporation elected William M. Brown to the company’s Board of Directors. Brown, 53, is chairman, president and CEO of Harris Corporation. Before joining Harris, Brown served in a number of executive roles at United Technologies Corporation from 1997 to 2011. Most recently, he led UTC Fire & Security. Brown also separately led the Asia Pacific Region and Transicold division for UTC’s Carrier Corporation subsidiary.

Stanley Black & Decker’s CIO Joins Board of Bakery Foods Company

The board of directors of packaged bakery foods company Flowers Foods elected Rhonda O. Gass, 51, as a new board member. Gass has served as VP and CIO for Stanley Black & Decker since 2012 and was named an executive officer of the company the same year. Gass was previously employed as VP, IT Strategy & Technology by Dell.

Vera Bradley Named Seasoned Retail and Ecommerce Executive as Newest Board Member

Vera Bradley announced that Mary Lou Kelley has joined its Board of Directors. Kelley has extensive e-commerce, marketing, and strategic planning experience and has served as President, E-Commerce for Best Buy since 2014. Prior to joining Best Buy, Kelley served as SVP, E-Commerce for Chico's FAS and held the posts of VP of Retail Real Estate and Marketing and VP of E-Commerce for L.L. Bean. Previously, she also held key marketing positions with Ashford.com and Ben & Jerry's and was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
