General Electric CTO to Retire; President and CEO of GE’s Power Generation Business to Assume Role

General Electric CTO Mark Little, 59, will retire at the end of the year after 37 years of dedicated service and leadership to GE. He was named CTO in 2005 and has led Global Research through a decade of global expansion and the launch of signature initiatives such as the Industrial Internet and Brilliant Factory.

Succeeding Mark as head of Global Research will be Vic Abate, who is currently President and CEO of GE’s Power Generation business in Schenectady. Abate is a 25-year GE veteran. As CTO, Abate will oversee GE’s nine global research center facilities and a global team of 50,000 engineers at Global Research and in the GE businesses.

Visa Hires Former Seattle Police CIO as SVP for Corporate IT

Greg Russell, the former Amazon IT executive who left a CIO position at the Seattle Police Department recently, has joined Visa as SVP for corporate IT. Russell was hired in March by the Seattle Police Department to help the department tackle some of the data storage and management challenges stemming from new technologies like body cameras. Before that, he led corporate applications, enterprise data warehousing and IT at Amazon.

Starbucks Taps Adobe CIO as CTO

Starbucks appointed Gerri Martin-Flickinger as CTO. Most recently, she served as Adobe’s SVP and CIO, where she oversaw Adobe’s global IT team and played a key role in enabling Adobe’s transformation to a cloud-based business. Before joining Adobe, Martin-Flickinger was CIO of VeriSign, CIO for Network Associates, and McAfee Associates. Before joining McAfee, she held several senior systems roles at Chevron.

Schneider Electric Appoints Former ABB CTO and Director of HP Labs as CTO

Prith Banerjee, Managing Director of Global Technology R&D at Accenture, joined Schneider Electric early September 2015 as CTO. Previously, Banerjee was CTO and EVP of ABB, and earlier, he was SVP of research at HP and director of HP Labs. Formerly, he spent more than 20 years in academia as a Professor, Department Chairman and Dean at the University of Illinois, and Northwestern University.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Loses CIO As It Charts New Course

Ralph Loura, who had served as CIO of the enterprise business of HP for the past 15 months, has left the company. Loura joined Hewlett-Packard in 2014 after spending four years as CIO at consumer products company Clorox.

Yahoo! Appoints Former Twitter Exec as CISO

Yahoo! named Bob Lord as Chief Information Security Officer. Lord brings more than twenty years of significant experience in the information security space, including most recently as the CISO-in-Residence at Rapid 7. Prior to that, Lord led Twitter’s information security program and held positions in product and information security at companies like Red Hat, AOL, and Netscape.

Telenor Group Appoints CTO and Chief Digital Officer as Part of Newly Restructured Team

Telenor Group has appointed Ruza Sabanovic as EVP and CTO and Jon Gravrak as EVP and Chief Digital Officer.

Since 2014 Sabanovic was SVP Technology and Industrialized projects, part of the Group Industrialized Development team. She has previously served as COO in Telenor India and was also heading Group network function and Group CTO forum. Sabanovic joined the green field operations in Telenor Montenegro in 1996. From 1994-2008 she served as the assistant professor at the Civil Engineering Faculty University of Montenegro.

Gravråk joins Telenor from McKinsey, where he was a Partner and has been with the company for 13 years. Gravråk has had multiple leadership positions in McKinsey’s Telecom, Media & Tech practice, in the Marketing & Sales practice as well as in the Oslo office.

TE Connectivity’s CTO to Retire Next Year

TE Connectivity’s EVP and CTO, Robert Shaddock, is retiring from the Company effective late in 2016. Shaddock joined TE Connectivity from Motorola, where he was SVP of Motorola’s Consumer Products business. Before that, he was CTO for Motorola’s Mobile Devices business. Earlier in his career, he served as CEO of Blue Wave Systems, a developer of leading-edge technology for the telecommunications and military industries.

Starbucks CIO Becomes First CIO of Chipotle Mexican Grill

Chipotle Mexican Grill hired Curt Garner as CIO. Garner, who held the same position at Starbucks, will become the company’s first CIO. Prior to joining Chipotle, Garner served as CIO at Starbucks. Prior to joining Starbucks, Garner held a technology leadership position at Wendy’s International.

Regions Financial Realigns Operations and Technology Group as Its Leader Retires

Regions Financial Corporation announced that Cindy Rogers, 59, Senior EVP and Head of Operations and Technology, will retire on December 31, 2015, after a 36-year career at Regions. Rogers joined the company in 1979 and was appointed head of Operations and Technology in 2009.

In conjunction with Rogers’ retirement, Regions will realign the Operations and Technology Group under the Regional Banking Group, which is led by John Owen, a Senior EVP. As part of the realignment, Matt Speare, EVP and head of Governance and Integration, has been named Enterprise CIO, and Chris Brasher, EVP and head of Payment and Loan Operations, has been named head of Enterprise Operations.

Cogobuy Group Appoints CTO from Microsoft Research Asia

Cogobuy Group, the e-commerce company serving the electronics manufacturing industry in China, hired Dr. Shipeng Li as CTO for Cogobuy and Dr. Li joins Cogobuy from Microsoft Research Asia, where he was a member of the senior leadership team and held various senior-level positions including Principal Researcher, VP, and Research Manager where he coordinated Microsoft's extensive multimedia research activities.

Australian Energy Company Appoints New CIO from Commonwealth Bank of Australia

AGL Energy, one of Australia's leading integrated energy companies, appointed Simon Moorfield as new CIO. Moorfield joins AGL from Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where he was GM Products & Process and Acting CIO for the Retail Division. He has global experience, including time spent in Asia and the US of America, and brings to AGL first-rate business transformation capabilities.

Zions’ CIO Turns Chief Technology Strategist; Company Promotes Enterprise Operations Exec to CIO

Utah based multi-bank holding company Zions Bancorporation announced that Joseph (Joe) Reilly, who has been serving as CIO, will assume the new role of Chief Technology Strategist. Jennifer Smith will assume the role of CIO. Smith has served as Group EVP and Director of Enterprise Operations since 2011 and has been responsible for the Customer Care Center, Deposit and Treasury Operations, Enterprise Loan Operations, and Consumer Lending and Card Operations departments. Reilly has served as the company's CIO since 2011.

Burberry Taps Wal-Mart Asia CIO for Global Role

British fashion house Burberry Group has tapped Fumbi Chima, formerly CIO of Wal-Mart Asia, as its new CIO.  Chima shifted into the retail industry after more than a decade in financial services, including stints as a senior IT manager at American Express and JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Dun & Bradstreet Elevates CIO to Chief Content and Technology Officer Role

Dun & Bradstreet announced that Curtis Brown was named Chief Content and Technology Officer. Brown joined Dun & Bradstreet in September 2014 as CIO, and leads the strategy and implementation of technology globally. Previously he was Global CTO and EVP for AOL.

Community Health Systems CIO to Retire

Community Health Systems announced that its CIO J. Gary Seay, will retire at the end of the year. He has served at the company since 1997. Before that he had stints at Humana and Cigna.

Blackbaud Promotes Product Development Exec to CTO

Blackbaud appointed Mary Beth Westmoreland to the role of CTO. Westmoreland’s scope expands from SVP of Product Development for mass market solutions to include leadership of worldwide technology strategy and planning across the company’s entire solution portfolio. Prior to the company, she served as VP of R&D for Ipswitch and Manager of Enterprise and Technical Systems at Westinghouse Savannah River Company.

ONE Gas Promotes VP, CIO to SVP, Administration and CIO

Oklahoma based ONE Gas elected Mark A. Bender, 50, to serve as the company's SVP, Administration and CIO. Bender joined the company in 2014 as VP and CIO. Bender was with Chesapeake Energy Corporation, where he served as VP of IT Operations and was also CIO at Oral Roberts University.

Condé Nast Exec Joins New York Times as CTO

The New York Times Company named Nick Rockwell as CTO. Rockwell joins the Times Company from Condé Nast, where he oversaw all aspects of the company’s technology development and operations. He joined Condé Nast in 2012 as SVP, digital. Previously Rockwell served as CTO at The Ladders, Digital CTO at MTV Networks, and the technical founder of SonicNet, a groundbreaking music editorial startup.

Mining Equipment-Maker Joy Global Hires CIO from Johnson Controls

Colin Boyd, former CIO at Johnson Controls, has joined mining equipment-maker Joy Global as VP and CIO. He replaces Mark Shaver, who will eventually move to a position within Joy’s underground product services division. Boyd joined Johnson Controls as VP IT and CIO in October 2008. Previously Boyd was Corporate VP and CIO for Sony Ericsson based in London and was GM of IS Operations for Sony Europe, and prior to working to Sony he was employed by British Telecomm and Logica.

Arris Exec Joins Neustar as SVP of Engineering and Operations

Real-time information services & analytics company Neustar appointed technologist Peter Burke as SVP of Engineering and Operations. Known for translating complex technologies into meaningful business opportunities, Burke joins Neustar from Arris, where he was SVP and GM, Arris Video Systems business, serving Global Tier 1 Telco and Cable Operators. Previously, he was the VP of Product Management at Motorola Mobility.

Shutterstock Taps Former Tumblr VP, Engineering as CTO

Anshu Aggarwal has joined Shutterstock, the stock photography, stock footage and stock music provider, as CTO. Most recently, he served as the VP of Engineering at Tumblr, one of the world's largest content sharing and discovery platforms. In addition, he has served in technology leadership roles at 1 Efficiency, Quewey, Gemini Mobile Technologies, Edison Carter Corporation (now 3VR Security) and Inktomi Corporation.

Former Colliers and Whirlpool Exec Joins Real Estate Brokerage Firm as CIO

National commercial real estate brokerage firm Marcus & Millichap has named Ken Sayward CIO. Before joining Marcus & Millichap, Sayward was the head of global business applications for Colliers International for five years where he was responsible for strategy, architecture and delivery of Colliers’ internal and external applications. Prior to that, he was global director of Information System for Whirlpool International for 14 years.

NASA Announces Appointment of New Agency CIO

Renee Wynn took the helm as NASA's new CIO. Prior to joining NASA in July as the deputy CIO, Wynn served 25 years with the Environmental Protection Agency, her final position being acting assistant administrator for the Office of Environmental Information.

Wynn replaces Larry Sweet, who joined NASA in 1987. Sweet stepped down from the CIO position ahead of his November retirement to allow time for a smooth and successful transition of leadership in the CIO's office.

Capgemini Hires CIO from AkzoNobel

Capgemini appointed Pieter Schoehuijs as the CIO for the Group. Prior to joining Capgemini, Pieter was the Global CIO of AkzoNobel. He spent 10 years in North America during which time he worked for Flowserve, Engelhard and also for Church & Dwight. Schoehuijs began his career in the Royal Dutch Navy, after which he spent 9 years in Europe with IBM and E&Y.

Just Dial CTO to Retire

India based online directory services company Just Dial has announced that its CTO Sandipan Chattopadhyay is resigning. He may continue to advise the company in respect of technical matters.

Kudelski Group Appoints Founder and Leader of Security Division as CIO

The Kudelski Group, the Swiss leader in digital security and a provider of end-to-end convergent media solutions to the digital entertainment industry, announced that Christophe Nicolas, former Head of Kudelski Security, will become Group CIO. He is SVP & Founder Kudelski Security.

Veritiv Appoints CIO from Amtrak

Veritiv Corporation, the B2B distributor of packaging, facility, and printing supplies in North America, appointed Dave Hudson as VP and CIO. Most recently, Hudson was Chief Business Strategy Officer, SVP Technology Strategy at Amtrak. Previously, Hudson was CIO for Insight Global; Senior Global Director of IT Business Delivery at Recall Corporation; and also held various roles with GE. He is a decorated US Army veteran.

Former Electronic Arts CTO Joins Glu Mobile as Global CTO

Tim Wilson joined Glu Mobile as Global CTO. Having served in multiple CTO positions at Electronic Arts, Wilson is expertly positioned to provide world-class technology leadership as Glu continues to expand its digital entertainment portfolio. His most recent role was Head of the company’s EADP Mobile Platform where he was instrumental in leading a team to develop and operate EA’s mobile services to support its mobile catalog. He also served as EVP of Strategic Relationships of Gaikai until its acquisition by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2012.

Arizona Hires New CIO from Private Sector

After nearly a year without a permanent CIO, the state of Arizona has tapped Morgan Reed, a former Expedia IT executive to oversee state IT initiatives. Reed is a veteran of the technology sector, was Expedia’s director of data center services since January 2013. He came to Expedia from, the Web hosting company, where he worked in a variety of IT positions for over a decade starting in March 2002, including the head of IT governance, disaster recovery and business continuity. He has also worked in IT at Intel Corp., Wells Fargo & Co. and Global Crossing.

He replaces current Chief Information Security Officer Mike Lettman, who has been acting CIO since January.

Dora Vell
