Juniper Adds Former Avago SVP to Board

Juniper Networks announced the appointment of Mercedes Johnson, 56, to its board of directors. Johnson brings more than 20 years of financial leadership and corporate management experience to Juniper Networks including her work as SVP & CFO for Avago Technologies. Prior to Avago, Johnson served as SVP & CFO at Lam Research Corporation. She has previously held executive leadership and management roles at companies such as Applied Materials, Nanometrics, NCR, and HP. Johnson has also been appointed to the board's Audit Committee.

String of EVP Appointments at Mitel

Vell placement Philip Keenan, 47, has been promoted to EVP of Americas sales. Keenan has formerly served as SVP of several divisions of telecommunications giant Polycom, including Network Systems, Strategy, and Worldwide Sales and Marketing. Before joining Polycom, Keenan worked as SVP of Worldwide Sales and Solutions Marketing of Accord Networks and as VP of International Sales for VideoServer.

Graham Bevington, 50, is selected to be EVP of International sales with responsibility for Mitel's operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific, and Caribbean and Latin America.

Ron Wellard, 52, is promoted to the role of GM and EVP of Product Development.

Mitel also announced the departure of Paul Butcher, Mitel's President and COO.

New Female CFO & SVP HR at QLogic and Extreme Networks

QLogic announced the appointment of Jean Hu, 47, to the position of SVP & CFO. Prior to this, Hu was at semiconductor communications company Conexant since 1997, most recently serving as SVP, CFO, and Treasurer.

Extreme Networks appointed Mimi Gigoux as SVP of HR. Prior to this, Gigoux held top HR leadership roles at Aviat Networks, Redback Networks, Ericsson, and Cisco Systems.

Meru Networks Fills Chief Sales & Engineering Roles

Meru Networks announced Philip Simmons is the new SVP of Engineering. Prior to Meru, Simmons was SVP of Engineering at Motorola and held senior roles at StarNet Technologies, AMD, Retix, and GEC.

Meru Networks announced Larry Vaughn, 55, as the new SVP of Worldwide Sales, Services, and Support. Vaughn has previously worked at Novell, Nortel, Unisys, and IBM. Vaughn joined Meru from BMC Software where he was VP of Worldwide Sales and Services for Growth and Emerging Markets. Prior to BMC, Vaughn served as the EVP of Worldwide Sales and Service for Enterasys Networks. Before Enterasys, Vaughn served as VP of Sales for Novell and Bay Networks/Nortel.

Sunrise Selects New Board Member

Sunrise Telecom announced the appointment of Helmut Berg, 65, to the company's board of directors. Berg served as president of JDSU's Communications Test Business. He currently serves on the board of directors of J.W. Speaker Corporation and the advisory boards of Empirix and FiberZone Networks.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
