Former Deloitte & Touche Chair/CEO Joins Verizon Communications as Board Member
Verizon Communications elected Gregory G. Weaver, former chairman and CEO of Deloitte & Touche, to the Verizon Board of Directors. Weaver served from 2012 to 2014 and from 2001 to 2005 as chairman and CEO of Deloitte's audit and enterprise risk services firm, Deloitte & Touche, overseeing all operations, strategic positioning, audit quality and talent matters.
IBM Elects Saudi Businesswoman as New Board Member
IBM elected Hutham S. Olayan, 61, to the board. Olayan is a principal, director and senior executive of The Olayan Group, a private multinational enterprise that is both an international investor and diversified commercial and industrial business in Saudi Arabia. Olayan has been a director of The Olayan Group since 1981 and has headed the group’s New York office since 1985. She is president and CEO of Olayan America.
EMC Adds BJ’s Wholesale Club CEO Laura Sen to Board; Greylock’s Partner Stepped Down as Director
Storage and IT giant EMC added Laura J. Sen, 59, CEO of retail giant BJ’s Wholesale Club as director. Sen will be the second woman on the board, joining to Jami Miscik, president of Kissinger Associates. Sen is a 26-year veteran of BJ’s and has been its CEO since 2009.
David N. Strohm, 67, resigned from the EMC and VMware board of directors. He is a Partner at Greylock Partners, Greylock XI, L.P. and Greylock XII L.P. Strohm joined Greylock Partners in 1980.
Baidu Goes Through Board Member Replacements
Chinese web services company Baidu named Brent Callinicos and Yuanqing Yang were appointed as directors. Nobuyuki Idei and Dejian Liu will step down from the board.
Callinicos most recently served as CFO of Uber Technologies from 2013 to 2015, where he remains an advisor. Prior to Uber, he served as VP, Treasurer and Chief Accountant at Google, and served in a variety of increasingly senior roles at Microsoft; his last role was as Corporate VP, Divisional CFO for the Platforms and Services Division.
Yuanqing Yang is Chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group. Yang joined Lenovo Group in 1989, leading the company from its roots as a China-based PC maker to a diversified global technology leader with $46 billion in revenue last year.
Cognizant Elects PepsiCo Veteran to Board
Cognizant elected Zein Abdalla, 57, to its Board of Directors. He was most recently President of PepsiCo. Prior to that, he served as CEO of PepsiCo Europe and was President, PepsiCo Europe Region. He previously held a variety of senior regional positions at PepsiCo since he joined that company in 1995.
Former CEO of Waste Management Resigns from TE Connectivity’s Board
David P. Steiner, 54, retires from connectivity and sensors solutions company TE Connectivity’s Board. Steiner advised the Company that his decision to not stand for re-election. Steiner has served as CEO and a Director of Waste Management, a provider of integrated waste management services, and also has been its President since 2010.
Twitter Appoints former Chief Business Officer of Google as New Chairman
Twitter appointed Omid R. Kordestani, 51, to serve as a member of the Board and as its Executive Chairman. Kordestani served as SVP and Chief Business Officer of Google.
Check Point Software Separates Chair-CEO Roles
Check Point Software Technologies separated the position of Chairman and CEO and appointed Marius Nacht, 49, as Non-Executive Chairman. Nacht is one of Check Point’s founders, and has served as Vice Chairman of the Board since 2001 and as a director of Check Point since its incorporation in 1993. From 1999 through 2005, Nacht held SVP positions at Check Point. Before that he was VP of International Operations.
Co-Founder Gil Shwed, 48, stepped down from the Chairman role but will continue as CEO. Shwed is considered the inventor of the modern firewall and authored several patents, such as the company’s Stateful Inspection technology.
CSC Elects Couple of New Board Members
CSC elected Peter Rutland and Robert F. Woods to the company’s Board of Directors. The Company also announced the retirement from the Board of David Barram, who has served as a director since 2004.
Rutland is a partner and global co-head of Financial Services at CVC Capital Partners Limited (CVC). Prior to joining CVC in 2007, he was a principal at Advent International and served in the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs.
Woods was SVP and CFO at Sungard Data Systems and before that served as SVP and CFO of IKON Office Solutions. Woods joined IBM in 1995 and served in a number of senior positions including Corporate Controller and Treasurer.
Fortinet Appoints Former Governor, U.S. Commerce Secretary to Board
The Board of Directors of Fortinet appointed Gary Locke to serve as a director of the Company. Locke is a former Governor of the State of Washington, serving two consecutive terms, from 1997 to 2005. In addition, from 2009 to 2011, Locke ran the U.S. Department of Commerce as the Commerce Secretary, and he served as the US Ambassador to China. With more than 20 years of public service leadership, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge on a broad range of corporate and global issues, related to cybersecurity challenges of different government organizations.
Hong Liang Lu, 61, notified Fortinet that he was resigning as a member of the board of directors. Lu has served as a member of the board since March 2008. Lu is a co-founder of UTStarcom, has been its director since 1991 and has served as Chairman of the board of UTStarcom.
Iron Mountain Acquires Recall; Appoints its Board Members to Board
Iron Mountain appoints Neil Chatfield and Wendy Murdock to the Board upon the successful closing of the Recall acquisition. Neil Chatfield, joined Recall as a Non-executive director in September 2013. He was an Executive Director and CFO of Toll Holdings for more than 10 years.
Wendy Murdock, joined Recall as a Non-executive Director in December 2013 and has significant experience in the financial services sector coupled with extensive experience managing large global organizations. From 2005 to 2013, Murdock was with MasterCard, where she was Group Executive, Policy and System Integrity Development, for MasterCard Worldwide from 2012 to 2013; Chief Payment Systems Integrity Officer from 2009 to 2012; Chief Product Officer from 2005 to 2008; and a member of the MasterCard Worldwide Operating Committee from 2005 to 2012.
Manhattan Associates Appoints Payments Industry Veteran to Board
Manhattan Associates elected Ed Eger to its board of directors. Eger is currently president and CEO of OANDA Corporation. Previously, he was a member of the leadership team at PayPal, as SVP and GM for the Americas. He also served as CEO of Citibank’s international consumer credit card business.
Pandora Adds Former Yahoo! Exec Mickie Rosen to Board
Pandora elected Mickie Rosen to the company’s board of directors. In her most recent operating role, Rosen served as the SVP of Yahoo’s Global Media and Commerce division which included Yahoo’s leading media properties – Yahoo! Homepage, News, Finance, Sports, Games, Entertainment, Lifestyles, Shopping, Autos, Travel, Homes and Video – across 20 categories and platforms worldwide.
Prior to her tenure at Yahoo!, Rosen was a partner with a digital media venture capital firm, Fuse Capital, where she co-founded and incubated Tecca. Rosen was also the head of entertainment for Fox Interactive Media. Prior to this, Rosen led product development, marketing and public relations for Fandango and was an executive for The Walt Disney Company’s Corporate Alliances group.
Blackberry Appoints Former Canadian Public Servant as Board Member
BlackBerry appointed The Honourable Wayne G. Wouters, PC, to the company's Board. From 2009 to 2014, Wouters was the Clerk of the Privy Council of Canada and held the roles of Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Public Service. He was sworn in as a Member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada on December 10, 2014. This gives him the honorific prefix "The Honourable" and the post-nominal letters PC for Life.
Logitech Elects Three New Directors
Logitech elected new directors to the board recently: Sue Gove, president of Excelsior Advisors and former president and CEO of Golfsmith International, Lung Yeh, managing director of Enspire Capital, and Edouard Bugnion, professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and a founder of both VMware and Nuova Systems.
Yelp Elects New Non-Exec Board Chair
Yelp elected current board member, Diane Irvine, to the position of non-executive board chairperson. Irvine takes over from Max Levchin, who recently stepped down from Yelp's and other boards to dedicate more time to the company he founded and leads.
Irvine previously served as an executive of Blue Nile, the leading online retailer of diamonds and fine jewelry, having joined as CFO and later serving as CEO, president and a director on the board. She has also served as CFO of Plum Creek Timber Company, a timberland management and wood products company, and was a tax partner at international accounting firm, Coopers & Lybrand.
K2 & Associates Obtains Board Representation at ShoreTel
ShoreTel appointed Josef Vejvoda, 50, to its board of directors. Vejvoda has served as a portfolio manager of K2 & Associates Investment Management since 2013 and as president of Jove Capital since 2004. Previously, he was a managing director, corporate finance of MGI Securities.
