SAP Names New President of Industry Cloud

SAP recently appointed Pat Bakey as President of the Industry Cloud organization. Bakey will be responsible for the industry cloud footprint at SAP, which covers 25 industries globally, the finance and extended supply chain lines of business and the go-to-market execution of SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA (SAP S/4HANA). 

Bakey has more than 25 years of experience in the IT industry and is a 12-year SAP veteran who has held a number of strategic and industry leadership positions across the SAP field organization. He most recently served as global GM for Consumer Industries. Bakey first joined SAP in North America as the president of the Customer Relationship Management line-of-business organization before assuming the role of president of SAP Public Services and later head of all strategic industries in the region.

VMware Names New CTO, CDO; Appoints EMEA Leader

VMware appointed Ray O'Farrell to the role of CTO and Chief Development Officer, responsible for orchestration across all of VMware's R&D BUs and lead CTO team. O'Farrell most recently served as GM, Software-Defined Data Center Division. He is a long time VMware veteran, having joined the company in 2003 to build out the storage technologies of VMware ESX® (later VMware vSphere®). Before joining VMware, he led product development teams at Microtec/Mentor-Graphics, Improv Systems, Industrial and Scientific Imaging and Ashling Microsystems.

Ben Fathi, CTO at VMware, has resigned after a three-and-a-half year run at the company. Fathi joined VMware in 2012 and was named VMware CTO in January 2014. Prior to being named CTO, Fathi was VP of R&D in charge of the teams that build the core ESX hypervisor, vSphere and other products.

Jean-Pierre Brulard has been appointed SVP and GM of EMEA. Previously VP for the Southern Region of EMEA, Brulard will be responsible for delivering VMware’s Software-Defined vision to customers across the region.

Akamai Appoints SVP/GM for Web Experience Division

Akamai Technologies appointed Ashutosh (Ash) Kulkarni as SVP & General Manager of the Company's Web Experience Division. Prior to Akamai, Kulkarni served as SVP and General Manager of Informatica's Cloud and Internet of Things (IoT) businesses. He has also held senior VP and GM roles at Informatica for Data Integration and Data Quality, and for Informatica's portfolio of emerging technology areas including Big Data, B2B, Ultra Messaging, Complex Event Processing (CEP), and Data Replication. In addition he also spent several years at Sun Microsystems in various product management and development roles.

LogMeIn Announces CEO Succession Plan

LogMeIn’s board approved a succession and transition plan for the company's CEO position. Effective at the end of 2015, Michael K. Simon, the company's co-founder and CEO for the past 12 years, will step down as CEO. He will be succeeded as CEO by William "Bill" R. Wagner, currently the company's president and COO. Simon will remain as the company's chairman of the board and will also serve in an advisory role to Wagner.

Wagner was hired in 2013, joining LogMeIn as the company's first COO. Wagner was promoted to president in January of 2015 and thereafter was appointed to the company's Board of Directors.

Simon co-founded LogMeIn as CEO in 2003, growing the company from a three-person startup to a leading cloud company with nearly one thousand employees, nine global offices and more than $200 million in annual revenue. He led the company through its public offering in 2009, and helped the company attract millions of users worldwide.

Starbucks’ CIO Joins Board of Cloud Enabled Enterprise Network Architecture Company Aerohive

Curt Garner, EVP and CIO for Starbucks, has joined Aerohive’s Board of Directors. Before being appointed EVP and CIO in March 2012, Garner held several technology leadership positions within Starbucks and was responsible for developing strategies and technology platforms that supported Starbucks' early entry into global markets. Prior to joining Starbucks in 1998, Garner held various technology leadership positions with Wendy’s International.

LiveOps Appoints Two Patent Holders into New Roles in Technological Innovation and Product Development

LiveOps, the cloud contact center and customer service Solutions Company, promoted two senior leaders. Jeff Thompson has been promoted to CTO and SVP of Engineering, and Ryan Proudfoot has been promoted to VP of Product Management.

Previously LiveOps’ SVP of Product Management, Thompson brings nearly 20 years of expertise developing innovative solutions to improve customer service delivery for the global Fortune 500. He joined LiveOps through the company’s 2014 acquisition of UserEvents, where he was founder and CEO, and previously led the CxEngage product team.

Previously a Senior Product Manager at LiveOps, Proudfoot has deep experience in product development and management and holds three U.S. patents. He joined LiveOps in early 2015 and has driven ongoing product improvements. He previously worked in product management and customer support with Blackberry World; Research in Motion; and Chalk Media.

Recently Outgoing HP Enterprise Security GM Joins Skyport Systems as CEO

Skyport Systems, the developer of Hyper-Secured Infrastructure named Art Gilliland, SVP/GM of enterprise security at Hewlett-Packard, to the position of CEO. A 15-year veteran of the enterprise security industry, Gilliland joined HP from Symantec where he served as a SVP of the Information Security Group. As part of the original IMlogic team, Gilliland served as VP of products and marketing and helped grow the company into an industry leader until it was acquired by Symantec.

Cloud HR Company Namely Adds a CFO and CTO

Namely, the provider of human-resource applications that run in the cloud, has named a new CFO and CTO. Radhika Samant is the new CFO. Previously she spent eight years as the CFO of Enterprise DB, a database company.

The new CTO is Teresa Dietrich. She was previously senior VP for technology at WebMD.

Egnyte Appoints Company’s First Female Executive; Named Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer

Isabelle Guis became the first female executive at Egnyte, a cloud storage management company, when she was named Chief Marketing  and Strategy Officer. One of the first female executives at a Silicon Valley cloud company is a former engineer from France. Before this, she was VP Product Marketing - Enterprise Storage Division & Public Cloud Solution Group at EMC and is a former GM - Small and Medium Enterprises at Avaya.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
