Former HP Cloud Leader Joins Cisco CTO Role

Cisco named Zorawar Biri Singh as CTO and SVP, Platforms and Solutions. His appointment comes as CTO and Chief Strategy Officer Padmasaree Warrior takes her leave. Singh will be responsible for driving thought leadership around Cisco’s long term technology roadmap, platforms and architectures. 

Singh joins Cisco from Khosla Ventures where he was a Venture Partner. Prior to that, he was SVP and GM of HP’s cloud business. He ran the giant’s cloud business to build HP’s OpenStack cloud technology and business from scratch. Before that, Singh was IBM’s VP for cloud computing for three years, having run overall strategy of IBM’s infrastructure, platform and SaaS.

JPMorgan Chase Appoints VP, Information Risk from Vanguard

Technical Risk Manager of Vanguard, William Vink, has been recently named as the JPMorgan Chase’s new VP, Information Risk. Before Vanguard, he was AVP - IT Audit Lead at MBNA, Chief Internal Auditor at Citadel Federal Credit Union, Research Manager - CommTax Products at Vertex, and Senior Accountant at Intelligent Electronics.

Citibank Appoints Head of Operations and Technology for Asia Pacific

The bank has appointed Christine Lam, Country Business Manager for Citi’s consumer banking business in Hong Kong and Macau, as Head of Operations and Technology (O&T) for Asia Pacific. Lam joined Citi as a Management Associate and has since held diverse positions in Hong Kong, Canada and the Asia-Pacific. Over the years, she has held a variety of line and staff positions in retail banking, operations and technology, transaction services, corporate and investment banking in both Hong Kong and in a regional capacity.

Norfolk Southern CIO to Retire

Deborah Butler, 61, EVP for planning and CIO at railroad Norfolk Southern Corp, plans to retire after more than 35 years at the company. She was named EVP for planning and CIO in 2007. She joined Norfolk Southern in 1978 as a customer account auditor, and then took on a number of operations positions before being named assistant VP for transportation customer services in 2000 and VP for customer service in 2002.

Micron Technology Taps Broadcom's VP, IT as CIO

Micron Technology has appointed Trevor Schulze as CIO. Schulze, who most recently served as Broadcom's corporate VP of IT, brings to Micron more than 25 years of IT, operations and product development experience. Prior to Broadcom, Schulze worked as the corporate VP of IT at Advanced Micro Devices. He also held various IT and engineering management roles at Cisco.

Sprint Strengthens Technology Leadership with New COO, Tech and CTO

Günther Ottendorfer, 46, is joining Sprint as COO, Technology. Ottendorfer previously served as CTO and a board member for Telekom Austria Group and managing director of Optus Singtel in Sydney Australia. He will lead a newly created Technology Office with responsibility for all network planning and deployment functions, as well as IT.

John Saw, Ph.D., Chief Network Officer, has been promoted to CTO. Before Sprint acquired Clearwire, he was Clearwire’s CTO. Prior to Clearwire, Dr. Saw was SVP & GM of Fixed Wireless Access at Netro (now SR Telecom) after Netro’s acquisition of AT&T Wireless’ broadband wireless group in 2002.

Juniper Networks Hires CIO from NVIDIA

Juniper Networks appointed Bob Worrall as SVP and CIO. Worrall joins Juniper Networks with more than 25 years of business and IT leadership experience, most recently at NVIDIA Corporation, where he served as SVP and CIO.

Target’s Digital Exec Joins as CIO of Foot Locker

Sportswear and footwear retailer Foot Locker named Pawan Verma as SVP and CIO. Verma succeeds Peter Brown, who retired in April after 38 years with the company. Verma joins Foot Locker from Target, where he has worked since 2013, most recently serving as VP, Digital and Marketing Technologies and Services Platforms. He has prior eCommerce, mobile and retail software development experience from roles with Convergys and Verizon Wireless.

New CIO of L-3 Communications is Former ITT Tech Exec

Ray DeLuke joined L-3 Communications as VP of IT & CIO. This role was previously held by Aaron Conner. DeLuke joins L-3 following a brief period as Exelis IT Integration lead for Harris Corporation. Prior to that, he served as VP of Shared Business Services and CIO at Exelis. He was CIO of ITT Exelis, Acting CIO for ITT Defense & Information Solutions beginning, and IT Director for ITT Advanced Engineering and Sciences (AES). Before becoming IT Director, he assumed roles of increasing responsibility at ITT AES, including Program Manager, Six Sigma Black Belt, and Director of Applications Services.

Digital Realty Trust Witnesses CTO Replacement

Colocation and data center solutions firm Digital Realty Trust named Chris Sharp as CTO. Sharp will be responsible for leading technology innovation and expanding the company's service portfolio to support key industry trends. Most recently, he was responsible for cloud innovation at Equinix. Previously, he held leadership positions at top network and colocation providers, including Qwest Communications, MCI/Verizon Business and Reliance Globalcom.

Jim Smith, the company's previous CTO, stepped down from his role at the company.

Columbia Pipeline Group Promotes VP, IT Services Delivery to CIO

Columbia Pipeline Group, recently separated from NiSource, promoted Matt Fahnestock from VP, IT Services Delivery to SVP, CIO. Fahnestock has more than 20 years of experience in management consulting and IT across the automotive, financial services, and energy industry sectors. His experience includes leading major business transformation programs in finance, supply chain, plant operations, and asset management, and in designing and implementing IT Operations. Fahnestock previously held senior management positions with AES Corporation, Ernst & Young, Rolls-Royce Energy, and Johnson Controls.

Edgewell Personal Care Names CIO from Former Parent Energizer Holdings

Anthony Bender was named CIO & VP Global Business Services for Edgewell Personal Care, following its split from Energizer Holdings. Bender joined Energizer Holdings in 2012 as VP and CIO. Since then, he has been instrumental in launching and directing numerous strategic initiatives to establish a culture of innovation through the adoption of IT and business process improvement. Prior, he was VP IT at Unilever; VP & CIO at Alberto Culver; SVP & CIO at The Relizon Company; VP & CIO at Dan River; and Director, IT at Springs Global.

NiSource Names Seasoned IT Executive as CIO

NiSource named Magnus Borg as CIO. Magnus will take the position previously held by Violet Sistovaris, who was promoted to a different role. Borg was most recently a Senior Advisor at PricewaterhouseCoopers; Global CIO at Sigma Aldrich; CIO at Safety-Kleen; SVP/CIO Americas at Ericsson; EVP & CIO at Svensk Bilprovning; GM at SEB Bank and Consultant, Strategic Management at Ericsson.

Armstrong World Industries Appoints CIO for Building Products Segment

Dawn Kirchner-King was appointed CIO for Armstrong Building Products at Armstrong World Industries. Earlier, she served as Director of IT Operations at Armstrong World Industries. Prior to joining the company earlier this year, she was Executive IT Advisor/Managing Director SCPA at Hartman Executive Advisors, IT Project Manager at Glatfelter, and AVP of Information Systems at Donegal Insurance Group.

BWX Technologies Gets CIO from Former Parent Company

Kent Gross is now CIO with BWX Technologies, following the split of Babcox & Wilcox. BWX is the former government and nuclear operations unit of Babcox & Wilcox. Prior to his appointment, Gross was Director, IT NOG at Babcock & Wilcox. He served as CIO at Pantex and Manager, Project Management at Honeywell, earlier in his career.

Ellie Mae Appoints Influential Security Expert and Visa Exec as Security Chief

Ellie Mae, the provider of innovative on-demand software solutions and services for the residential mortgage industry, named Dr. Selim Aissi as Chief Security Officer (CSO). Prior to joining Ellie Mae, Aissi was the VP of Global Information Security at Visa. Before that, he spent over 11 years at Intel where he held senior management and technology roles and championed several security technologies for Intel’s server, desktop and mobile products. Prior to Intel, he held senior engineering positions at General Dynamics, General Motors, and Applied Dynamics International.

MGE Energy CIO Retires

Peter J. Waldron, 57, who is VP and CIO of MGE Energy, plans to retire. Waldron has been employed by the Company for approximately 35 years. Nothing was announced if the company was looking for a new CIO, or if they have a succession plan.

Hanger Appoints CIO for Implementing Smarter Systems and Creating Stronger Infrastructure

Scott Ranson joined the provider of orthotic and prosthetic patient care, Hanger, as its CIO. Ranson joins Hanger after 14 years' experience as the CIO for Brookdale Senior Living, a publicly traded senior housing solution provider. Previously, he served as the Director of Software for Marketing Specialists Company, where he led the successful implementation of an ERP system and e-commerce strategies, and VP of IT for Atlas Marketing Company.

Turner Broadcasting System Elevates Technology Strategy and Product Monetization Leader to CTO

Turner Broadcasting System promoted Jeremy Legg to the role of CTO. Legg is currently Head of Technology Strategy and Product Monetization for Turner. Legg developed Turner’s technology strategy and oversaw software development and digital infrastructure. In addition, as the former SVP of Business Development and Multi-Platform Distribution for TBS, he oversaw TV Everywhere and all non-linear and product distribution and strategy across broadband, iTV and wireless. Prior to joining Turner, he was VP of Business Strategy and Development for AOL. He has also held senior leadership roles with Oracle and Accenture.

Former Wells Fargo CTO Joins Southern Company Services as CIO

Southern Company Services, the shared services division of Southern Company, named Martin B. Davis as EVP and CIO. Davis joins after a nearly 30-year career in key enterprise IT and security roles with Wells Fargo and Wachovia. He most recently served as head of enterprise technology services, EVP and CTO for Wells Fargo. Previously, he served as Wells Fargo's head of technology integration and as Wachovia's corporate CIO, among other roles.

Box Appoints New CIO from HP Software

Online file sharing and personal cloud content management company Box named Paul Chapman as its CIO, responsible for driving a broad range of IT initiatives. Chapman, most recently CIO of HP Software for Hewlett-Packard, brings a track record of leadership in optimizing business operations and driving productivity across global workforces. Prior to HP, Chapman served as VP, Global Infrastructure and Cloud Operations and VP of Enterprise Applications at VMware and has held leadership roles at Affymetrix and Sun Microsystems.

Newgistics Hires Former Staples and Exec as CIO

Logistics and e-commerce technology company Newgistics has named Gene Wojciechowski as its new CIO. Prior to joining Newgistics, Wojciechowski was VP of global technology for Staples’ North American delivery and supply chain division. He was also involved in implementing Big Data solutions and a global enterprise data strategy. Before Staples, he was CIO at He implemented’s first mobile app and helped expand same-day pickup. Other experience includes a stint as CIO at UPS Freight Services and technology VP at logistics firm Ensenda.

Grant Thornton Hires CSC Exec as CIO

Manish Tomar has joined consulting firm Grant Thornton, the U.S. division of Grant Thornton International, as CIO. He’ll run the company’s internal IT function and other programs, which span cloud computing initiatives, infrastructure and analytics, employee productivity and client experience. Tomar joins Grant Thornton from CSC, where he was VP and GM for Application Services. Previously, he was GM of CSC’s Enterprise Testing Services BU and as VP of Financial Services. Prior to that, he served in consulting and management roles for APAC Customer Services, now known as EGS Customer Care and for Rockwell Automation.

T-System Promotes Healthcare Tech Veteran to CTO

T-System, a healthcare IT Company focused on optimizing emergency medicine and urgent care, promoted Hank Hikspoors as the company’s CTO. Hikspoors, formerly the director of product development for T-System’s emergency department information system, EV™, will lead the alignment of technology across the company’s entire solution portfolio.

Most recently, he led the technical delivery and deployment of T-System’s new digital documentation technology for urgent care centers, T-Sheets® Digital. Hikspoors currently holds a U.S. patent for a method, system and computer-readable medium for resource-based route selection and has a patent pending for T-System’s ICD-10 documentation feedback schema.

Not-for-profit Health System Texas Health Resources Appoints CIO

Texas Health Resources named Joey Sudomir, M.S., CHCIO, as SVP, Innovative Technology Solutions (ITS), and CIO. Sudomir joined Texas Health as VP, IT operations, in 2013 and was named deputy CIO in 2014. He joined Texas Health Partners in 2008 as VP of IT, leading IT-related clinical transformation efforts for Texas Health’s joint ventures. Before joining Texas Health, Sudomir managed operational ownership for IT at more than 60 hospitals for a nationally known company that operates hospitals across the country.

SGR Technology Appoints CMIO from Massachusetts General Hospital's Lab of Computer Sciences

Adrian Zai MD, PhD, MPH has been named CMIO at SGR Technology, a developer of data collection and analysis tools. Zai is former clinical director of population informatics at Massachusetts General Hospital's Lab of Computer Sciences. He is a former Instructor in Medicine of Harvard Medical School.

Health Care Software Company Intermedix Names CIO from Verisk Health

Jack Hemmert has been appointed as the first CIO of Intermedix, provider of sales management and analytics software for health-care providers, corporations and government agencies. Hemmert is former CIO of Verisk Health. Before that, he worked as a software development manager for the Insurance Services Office, a Verisk Analytics subsidiary.

State of Kansas Appoints Chief IT Officer

Phil Wittmer, president of Lead-It, a technology strategy and investment firm, joins as Chief IT Officer for the State of Kansas. Wittmer joins the state with more than 20 years of private-sector IT experience, including roles at Pizza Hut, Grand Metropolitan Foodservice, ARAMARK, KOCH INDUSTRIES, TV Guide Magazine, U.S. Central, Affiliated Computer Services, CSC Consulting and Polsinelli Shughart.

UK Based Co-operative Group Appoints Chief Digital Officer

Mike Bracken has been named Manchester based Co-operative Group’s Chief Digital Officer, leaving his current role as Executive Director of the Government Digital Service and the UK government's Chief Data Officer.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.
