Former President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland Joins Prudential Financial’s Board

Prudential Financial elected Sandra Pianalto, 60, as an independent director. Pianalto is the former president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, a position she held from 2003 until 2014. She joined the Bank in 1983 as an economist in the Research Department. Before joining the Bank, Pianalto was an economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and served on the staff of the Budget Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. 

Ingersoll-Rand Elects Former U.S. Secretary of Labor and Former CEO of BAE Systems as Board Members

Ingersoll-Rand elected Elaine Chao, 62, and Linda Hudson, 64, as members of the Board. Secretary Chao was the 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor, serving from 2001 to 2009, and the first Asian Pacific American woman to be appointed to a President’s cabinet in American history. She presently serves as chairman of the Ruth Mulan Chu Chao Foundation, a family foundation. Secretary Chao was a Distinguished Fellow at The Heritage Foundation and served as president and CEO of United Way of America. Her previous government experience includes serving as director of the Peace Corps; deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation; and chairman, Federal Maritime Commission. Secretary Chao was also VP of syndications at BankAmerica Capital Markets Group and a banker with Citicorp.

Hudson is chairman and CEO of The Cardea Group, a management and leading consulting business she founded last year. Previously, she served as president and CEO of BAE Systems, the U.S.-based subsidiary of BAE Systems plc. Hudson also served as president of BAE Systems’ Land and Armaments operating group. Prior to joining BAE, Hudson worked at General Dynamics and was president of its Armament and Technical Products business. During her career, she has held various positions in engineering, production operations, program management and business development for defense and aerospace companies.

Nordstrom Appoints Board Member from CPG Sales and Marketing Sector

Fashion retailer Nordstrom named Tanya Domier, CEO of Advantage Sales & Marketing, to the company's Board. Domier was named CEO of ASM, the consumer packaged goods sales and marketing agency, in January 2013 after serving as their president and COO previously. She joined ASM in 1990 from J.M. Smucker Company and has held a number of executive level roles in sales, marketing and promotions. Domier also serves on the ASM Board since 2006.

Nu Skin Enterprises’ Newest Director Comes From Within Direct Selling and Personal Care Industries

Nu Skin Enterprises, a global direct selling company marketing personal care and nutritional products, added Edwina D. Woodbury, to its board of directors. Woodbury has served as president and CEO of The Chapel Hill Press since 1999 and has held several executive and board positions with other companies. She was CFO at Avon Products and held other finance and operations positions.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
