Cisco Names Worldwide Ops SVP Chuck Robbins as New CEO to Succeed John Chambers

Cisco has appointed Charles H. (Chuck) Robbins, 48, as the next CEO and appointed him to the board of directors. John T. Chambers, 65, currently CEO and Chairman, will remain on the board and assume the role of Executive Chairman. Robbins most recently served as Cisco’s SVP of Worldwide Operations, leading the company’s global sales and partner team that drives $47B in business. He was a key architect of the commercial business segment strategy, sponsored the security and collaboration businesses at the executive level and was a sponsor for the Sourcefire and Meraki acquisitions.

Earlier he has served as SVP of Americas, SVP of Worldwide Sales, SVP of Enterprise U.S. and Canada Commercial, SVP of Commercial Business and Group VP of U.S. and Canada channels. He joined Cisco in 1997 and moved quickly through the company’s ranks.

Chambers has served as CEO of Cisco since January 1995, having joined the company in 1991 as the head of sales. He has grown the company from $1.2B in annual revenue to its current run rate of $48B.

JDS Uniphase Appoints Plantronics’ CFO and Seasoned Finance Exec as New Board Member

JDS Uniphase, the provider of network and service enablement solutions, appointed Pamela Strayer, 46, as a director of the company. Strayer is currently the CFO at Plantronics, a position she has held since July 2012. She is also Certified Public Accountant. She served as Chief Accounting Officer, VP and Controller, Senior Director and Assistant Corporate Controller at Autodesk.

Prior to Autodesk, she spent five years at Epiphany, a customer relationship management software company acquired by SSA Global Technologies in 2005, the last three years of which as VP of finance and corporate controller. She also spent one year at Informix Software, a relational database management system developer, as senior manager of worldwide revenue recognition prior to its acquisition by IBM in 2001

Mitel Appoints Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Sales Officer

Mitel, provider of business communications and collaboration products, named Wes Durow as Chief Marketing Officer. Durow joins Mitel as it continues to implement a disciplined and ambitious growth strategy that has made the company a global leader in business communications. Durow joins Mitel from Sonus Networks where, as VP of Global Marketing. Before joining Sonus, he was Chief Marketing Officer at Fonality, VP and General Manager of Global Marketing for Avaya, and spent more than a decade with Nortel in a number of leadership roles, including end-to-end marketing, go-to-market, and strategic planning for their enterprise business.

Mitel has appointed Graham Bevington to the newly created position of EVP and Chief Sales Officer. An industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience, Bevington has held a series of senior sales management positions at Mitel for more than fifteen years. Under his leadership, Mitel has successfully entered and expanded its market presence in regions around the world. Prior to his current position, Bevington led Mitel's Europe, Middle East and Africa sales organization, which now holds the #1 market share position.

Intelsat S.A. Names New CEO and Sales and Marketing Head

Communications satellite services provider Intelsat S.A. named Stephen Spengler, 55, as CEO. He replaces Intelsat’s now executive chairman, Dave McGlade, 54.

Spengler served as EVP Sales, Marketing and Strategy; SVP, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific Sales; Acting SVP Sales & Marketing of Intelsat Global Service Corporation; VP, Sales, Network Services & Telecom of Intelsat. Before joining Intelsat, he held various positions in the telecom industry, including SVP of Global Sales, Broadband Access Networks, at Cirronet, VP for Sales and Marketing at ViaSat Satellite Networks, Regional Sales Director for Satellite Networks in Europe, Middle East and Africa for Scientific-Atlanta Europe based in London, and sales and marketing positions at GTE Spacenet and GTE Corporation.

Kurt Riegelman, 51, has been named SVP, Sales and Marketing, assuming leadership of Intelsat’s product management and marketing functions in addition to the company’s global sales initiatives. Riegelman previously served as SVP, Global Sales. Riegelman joined Intelsat in 1998 as VP, North America Sales responsible for many of Intelsat’s largest customer contracts within the media sector. In 2006, he assumed sales leadership for the Americas region and, in 2008 Riegelman increased his responsibility to cover all sales globally for Intelsat.

Comtech EF Data Promotes Product Management VP to SVP Position

Comtech EF Data, that develops innovative and market-leading satellite communication products, promoted Louis Dubin to SVP, Product Management. Dubin previously held the position of VP, Product Management for Comtech EF Data, where he was responsible for business development and product management for high-speed modems, TDMA modems, and broadcast products. He joined Comtech EF Data in 2008, through the acquisition of Radyne Corporation. During his tenure at Radyne, Dubin held the positions of President of Radyne's Phoenix, Arizona division and VP of Sales.

Dora Vell

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
