Raytheon Appoints Director with Expertise in Intelligence and Security Matters

Raytheon Company has elected Letitia A. Long, 55, as a director. Long has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility over the course of her distinguished 32-year career in the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. She served as Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency from 2010 to 2014. From 2006 to 2010, she served as the Deputy Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, and from 2003 to 2006, as Deputy Undersecretary of Defense (Intelligence) for Policy, Requirements and Resources.

Northrop Grumman Elects SunGard Financial Systems’ COO as Newest Board Member

Northrop Grumman elected Marianne Brown, 55, COO of SunGard Financial Systems, to its board. Brown joined SunGard Financial Systems in February 2014. Prior to that, Brown was the CEO and president of Omgeo, a global financial services technology company. Before joining Omgeo, she was the CEO of the Securities Industry Automation Corporation. Brown began her career at Automatic Data Processing (ADP) and progressed through a series of positions of increasing responsibility culminating in her role as GM of ADP's Brokerage Processing Services business, which was subsequently spun off to become Broadridge Financial Solutions.

Entertainment Industry Veteran Joins Netflix’s Board

Netflix added Anne Sweeney, 56, recently Co-chair Disney Media Networks and President Disney-ABC Television at the Walt Disney, to its board. Sweeney's entertainment experience spans more than three decades including senior roles at the Walt Disney, 21st Century Fox and Viacom. Until she stepped down in January, she oversaw Disney's cable, broadcast and satellite properties around the world since 2004. Previously, she helped establish and served as Chairman and CEO of the FX Networks, part of the Fox Entertainment Group of 21st Century Fox. Earlier in her career, she spent more than 12 years at Viacom's Nickelodeon network.

SBA’s New Director is Seasoned Telecoms and Wireless Technology Executive

SBA Communications named Mary S. Chan, 52, to its board of directors. Chan brings to the SBA Board over 25 years of extensive experience in telecommunications and wireless technology industries. Chan served as President, Global Connected Consumer & OnStar Service, at General Motors; SVP and GM, Enterprise Mobility Solutions & Services, at Dell; and held SVP positions at Alcatel-Lucent and Lucent Technologies, including the positions of EVP, President of 4G/LTE Wireless Networks and EVP, President of Global Wireless Networks. Prior to Alcatel-Lucent/Lucent Technologies, Chan worked at AT&T Network Systems.

CarMax Elects Nielsen’s CMO To Board

United States' largest used-car retailer and a Fortune 500 company CarMax elected Marcella Shinder, 48, to membership on the board. Shinder is chief marketing officer of Nielsen N.V. where she has been since 2011. Previously, she spent 18 years at American Express, serving in a variety of executive roles including Head of Global Marketing, Head of Brand Management and Social Media, and GM, Small Business Charge Cards, American Express OPEN.

Chesapeake Energy Appoints Director from Environmental, Health and Safety Background

Oil and natural gas company Chesapeake Energy appointed Kimberly K. Querrey, 53, to its Board. Querrey is the co-founder of SQ Advisors, a registered investment advisor, and has been its President and Managing Member since 2010. Previously, she was the President of Querrey Enterprises, an international business operations and environmental, health and safety consulting firm, and held a variety of operational and environmental, health and safety positions at IMCO Recycling and Occidental Chemical Corporation, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum. She also was the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety at Western Michigan University.

Former Providence Equity and JP Morgan Exec Joins American Realty’s Board

Julie G. Richardson, 51, has joined American Realty as an Independent Director. Richardson was most recently a Senior Advisor to Providence Equity Partners, a global asset management firm with over $40 billion in assets. From 2003 to 2012, she was a Partner and MD at Providence Equity, and oversaw the firm's New York office. Prior to Providence Equity, she served as Global Head of JP Morgan's Telecom, Media and Technology Group, and was previously a MD in Merrill Lynch's investment banking group. Richardson currently serves on the Board of The Hartford Financial Group.

Columbia Sportswear Appoints Former President of U.S. Bank of Oregon to Serve on the Board

The board of Columbia Sportswear Company elected Malia H. Wasson to serve in the newly-created position. Wasson served as President of Oregon and Southwest Washington for U.S. Bank from 2005 to 2015, capping a banking industry career that spanned 33 years. Prior to joining U.S. Bank in 1989, Malia held various commercial lending positions with the former Oregon Bank and Security Pacific Bank of Oregon. Wasson is a member of the board of Northwest Natural Gas Company and serves as a board member of several civic organizations.

Cubic Names Distinguished U.S. Navy IT and Cybersecurity Expert to Board

Military defense equipment and automated fare collection equipment company Cubic Corporation named Jan Hamby to its board. Hamby is a retired U.S. Navy rear admiral, and an IT expert with more than 30 years of experience in the U.S. Navy cybersecurity arena, culminating as a deputy CIO for the U.S. Department of Defense. She is currently the Chancellor at the Information Resources Management College (IRMC/iCollege), National Defense University in Washington, D.C. Hamby served twice as commanding officer of critical telecommunications and technology services organizations; technology and general strategist at the senior levels of the staffs of the Secretary of Defense; chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and commander of Multi-National Force in Iraq.

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
