Vulcan Materials Elects Former U.S. Secretary of Labor as Newest Board Member

Vulcan Materials elected Elaine L. Chao to its Board of Directors. Chao served as the U.S. Secretary of Labor from 2001-2009, and is the first American woman of Asian descent to be appointed to a U.S. Cabinet position. Prior to the cabinet position, she held various leadership roles in the public, private and non-profit sectors, including: President and CEO of United Way of America; Director of the Peace Corps; Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation; Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission; VP of Syndication at Bank of America, Capital Markets Group, and Citicorp.

Dollarama Appoints Office Depot’s Chief Legal Officer as Director

Dollar store operator Dollarama appointed Elisa D. Garcia C. as an independent director. Garcia currently serves as EVP and Chief Legal Officer of Office Depot. Prior to joining Office Depot in 2007, she was EVP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary for Domino's Pizza and served as Latin American Regional Counsel for Philip Morris International and Corporate Counsel for GAF Corporation.

VeriSign Board Adds Lawyer and Former US Deputy Attorney General

Jamie S. Gorelick was elected to VeriSign's Board of Directors. Gorelick has been a partner with the international law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr since 2003. She served as Deputy Attorney General of the United States from 1994 to 1997 and as General Counsel of the Department of Defense from 1993 to 1994. She has been a director of Amazon.com since 2012. She previously served as a director of United Technologies Corporation and of Schlumberger Limited. 

Splunk Appoints Former Google and eBay Exec to Board

Splunk has appointed Amy Chang to its Board of Directors. Chang is CEO and founder of Accompani, a next-generation networking platform for professionals. Prior to Accompani, Chang led the product team for Google’s Advertiser Measurement & Reporting efforts from 2005 to 2012. Prior to Google, she served as a key member of eBay’s Product Strategy team, where she helped set direction for strategic global initiatives. Chang began her career at McKinsey. She currently serves on Informatica’s board of directors and the digital advisory council of Target, among other advisory boards.

Jack Henry Appoints Director with Leadership Experience in Credit Union Industry

Jack Henry & Associates appointed Shruti S. Miyashiro to its Board. Miyashiro is President and CEO of Orange County's Credit Union, which she has led since 2007. Prior to her current role, Miyashiro held other senior positions in financial services organizations, including President and CEO of Pasadena Federal Credit Union and President and CEO of Orange County Group.

Southwest Airlines CFO Joins Board of Tenet Healthcare

The board of Tenet Healthcare appointed Tammy Romo, 52, SVP of finance and CFO of Southwest Airlines, as a new independent director. She has served as SVP of finance and CFO of Southwest Airlines since 2012. Previously, she held a variety of financial management and leadership positions at the company, including SVP of planning, VP and controller, VP and treasurer, and senior director of investor relations. Before joining Southwest Airlines in 1991, she was an audit manager at Coopers & Lybrand.

Former Microsoft CMO Joins Wendy's Board

Wendy's elected Michelle (Mich) Mathews-Spradlin to serve as a director of the Company. Prior to her retirement in 2011, Mathews-Spradlin worked at Microsoft for 18 years, where she served, among other roles, as CMO and SVP. In this position, she oversaw the company's global marketing function and built demand for the technology brands, including Windows, Office, Xbox, Bing and Internet Explorer.

SAIC Appoints Director with both Federal and Corporate Experience

Science Applications International Corp. appointed Deborah B. Dunie as a member of board of directors. Dunie formerly served as EVP and CTO of CACI International. Prior to CACI, she served within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Deputy Under Secretary for Counterintelligence and Security and as Director of Plans and Analysis. She also served as Director of the Business Transformation Office at the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (now known as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency). Dunie began her career as an engineer at ITT Corp. and also had senior management positions at Martin Marietta, Raytheon and Oracle.

Clean Energy Company Appoints Board Member with Distinguished Career in Investment Banking

NextEra Energy, a leading clean energy company, named Amy B. Lane to its board of directors. Lane served as a managing director and group leader of the global Retailing Investment Banking Group at Merrill Lynch from 1997 until her retirement in 2002. Previously, she was a managing director at Salomon Brothers, where she founded and led the retail industry investment banking unit, having joined that firm in 1989. She began her investment banking career at Morgan Stanley in 1977.

Amkor Technology Appoints Active Philanthropist and Director with Extensive Board Experience

Amkor Technology, the provider of contract semiconductor assembly and test services, appointed Susan Y. Kim, 51, as a new board member. Kim is a former Board Member of EB Games Corp. She served as Senior District Manager, Personnel Manager, Buyer and as a Field Manager of EB. She is an active philanthropist who currently sits on the Board of the Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia. In the past she has served on numerous Boards including: The National Constitution Center, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Franklin Institute, The GESU School, and The Shipley School.

comScore’s New Director is Former P&G Exec with Market Research, Digital Media and Analytics Experience

Internet analytics company comScore appointed Joan M. Lewis, formerly SVP of Global Consumer and Market Knowledge at The Procter & Gamble Company, as director. Lewis' appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Jeffrey Ganek, a member of the comScore Board of Directors since May 2008.

Lewis worked at P&G for more than 27 years, both in the U.S. and in Europe, most recently serving as the SVP of Global Consumer and Market Knowledge. Lewis has served on the Board of several organizations, including the Singapore Industry Advisory Board for Consumer Insights, the Advertising Research Foundation Board of Directors, and the Business Advisory Council for the Farmer School of Business at Miami University.

NFL CIO Joins Board of RingCentral

RingCentral, the provider of cloud-based phone systems, appointed Michelle McKenna-Doyle, SVP and CIO of the NFL, to its Board. McKenna-Doyle joined the NFL as CIO in September 2012. Prior to that, she was CIO at Constellation Energy, and SVP and CIO at Universal Orlando Resort. She previously spent more than 13 years at the Walt Disney World Company where she held senior leadership positions in Finance, Marketing and IT.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
