Microsoft Taps Adobe Exec as VP of Design for Applications and Services Group

Microsoft named Michael Gough as Corporate VP of design for the Applications and Services Group (ASG). Gough will be responsible for leading design across many of Microsoft's most important products, including Office 365. Gough joins Microsoft from Adobe Systems, where he most recently served as VP of Experience Design leading its multidisciplinary experience creation organization. Before joining Adobe in 2005, Gough served as the VP of brand design at Nike, chief creative officer at Quokka Sports, and founder and creative director at Construct Internet Design.

RSA Executive Chairman and EMC EVP Art Coviello Retires

RSA, the security division of EMC announced Art Coviello's decision to retire from his post as Executive Chairman of RSA and EVP of EMC for health reasons. Through a transition period, Coviello will serve as strategic advisor to RSA President Amit Yoran, who will remain in his current role while also assuming Coviello's responsibilities. Coviello was the CEO of RSA Security prior to its acquisition by EMC in 2006. He joined RSA in 1995 and has been a driving force in its strategic evolution and rapid growth over the past 20 years.

Cigniti names Cognizant Executive as CTO

North American software testing services company Cigniti Technologies has appointed Cognizant executive Pradeep Govindasamy as its CTO. Govindasamy comes with 15 years’ experience with Cognizant in QA leadership roles and was in-charge of the R&D team of that company when he joined Cigniti. Pradeep will be based in Irving, Dallas and will closely work with Cigniti’s leadership team in North America.

Palo Alto Networks Appoints VP of Government Affairs and Policy from White House

Palo Alto Networks appointed Ryan Gillis as VP of Government Affairs and Policy. Gillis joins from the White House, where he was Director of Legislative Affairs and Cybersecurity Policy for the National Security Council. He began working in the White House in 2012, following six years with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), culminating with his position there as Senior Advisor and Legislative Director, managing issues such as cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection.

Citrix Appoints Marketing SVP from SAP Acquired Concur  

Robson Grieve is joining its executive team as SVP of marketing. Most recently, he was EVP of global marketing and customer experience with Concur, a cloud-based software company recently acquired by SAP. Prior to Concur, Grieve led the growth of Creature, an internationally recognized creative and strategy agency based in Seattle and London. Earlier, he worked in a number of executive marketing roles with Corbis, Vitessa and Radical Entertainment. He started his career as an account executive with Silicon Valley PR leader, A&R Partners.

OpenText’s President and CEO Barrenechea Diagnosed with Leukemia; Company Forms CEO Operating Committee

Mark J. Barrenechea, OpenText’s President and CEO, has been diagnosed with Leukemia, the treatment of which will require him to reduce his involvement in the day-to-day operations of the Company for approximately the next 100 days. During this time, a CEO Operating Committee has been established to assist in the management of the Company's day-to-day operations. In addition to Barrenechea, the CEO Operating Committee will consist of John M. Doolittle, CFO, and Gordon A. Davies, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary.

Barrenechea remains CEO and a Director during this time, and will continue to be involved in the Company's strategic matters. The roles and responsibilities of the Company's Executive Leadership Team during this period remain unchanged.

Splunk’s VP Worldwide Field Sales Leaving

Splunk’s Worldwide Field Sales VP Vishal Rao is leaving the company. Rao joined Splunk in 2010. Before that he was Worldwide Director, Global Accounts at BMC Software, Sales Manager. (through MRO Software acquisition) at IBM, and Senior Sales & Sales Management Positions (through Remedy Software acquisition) at BMC Software.

Teradata Adds Cigna’s CMO and Blackbaud’s CEO to Board

Teradata elected Lisa R. Bacus, 49, and Michael P. Gianoni, 53, to its Board of Directors. Bacus is EVP and Global CMO at Cigna. Bacus joined the company in 2013. Before that, she served as EVP and Chief Marketer at American Family, and served in many key roles at Ford, including Director of Global Marketing Strategy, Director of Global Market Research, Head of Marketing for Ford in Mexico, and Brand Manager and Regional Sales Manager for Lincoln.

Michael P. Gianoni is President and CEO of Blackbaud since 2013. Prior to that, he served as EVP and group president, Financial Institutions Group, and president of the Investment Services division at Fiserv. Gianoni joined Fiserv as part of its acquisition of CheckFree, where he served as EVP and GM of CheckFree Investment Services. He spent 11 years at DST Systems and worked at Applications Systems Group, Sequent Computer Systems, Wang Laboratories, U.S. Design Corporation and Canberra Industries.

Pitney Bowes’s CFO Adds on COO Role

Pitney Bowes named CFO Michael Monahan as EVP, COO and CFO. Monahan has been with Pitney Bowes since 1988 and held positions in Corporate Accounting, Investor Relations, Corporate Development, as a business unit CFO and product management. He has served as CFO since 2008. Prior to that, he served as Pitney Bowes President of the Mailstream Solutions and Services – Americas. Before joining Pitney Bowes Monahan was a senior auditor with Price Waterhouse.

PTC’s Board Member for Two Decades Not to Stand for Re-Election

PTC, formerly Parametric Technology, announced that Harvard Business School Professor Michael E. Porter will transition off its board and not stand for re-election. A professor at Harvard Business School since 1973 and a Harvard University Professor since 2001, Porter has served as a member of PTC’s board for 20 years. Prof. Porter will continue to serve as a strategy advisor to the company, and will continue to collaborate closely with PTC president and CEO Jim Heppelmann in thought leadership on the impact of the rise of smart, connected products on competition and strategy.

SAIC appoints Director with both Federal and Corporate Experience

Science Applications International Corp. appointed Deborah B. Dunie as a member of board of directors. Dunie formerly served as EVP and CTO of CACI International. Prior to CACI, she served within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Deputy Under Secretary for Counterintelligence and Security and as Director of Plans and Analysis. She also served as Director of the Business Transformation Office at the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (now known as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency). Dunie began her career as an engineer at ITT Corp. and also had senior management positions at Martin Marietta, Raytheon and Oracle.

comScore’s New Director is Former P&G Exec with Market Research, Digital Media and Analytics Experience

Internet analytics company comScore appointed Joan M. Lewis, formerly SVP of Global Consumer and Market Knowledge at The Procter & Gamble Company, as director. Lewis' appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Jeffrey Ganek, a member of the comScore Board of Directors since May 2008.

Lewis worked at P&G for more than 27 years, both in the U.S. and in Europe, most recently serving as the SVP of Global Consumer and Market Knowledge. Lewis has served on the Board of several organizations, including the Singapore Industry Advisory Board for Consumer Insights, the Advertising Research Foundation Board of Directors, and the Business Advisory Council for the Farmer School of Business at Miami University.

RealPage Appoints Former Ariba Exec as Chief Customer Officer

Daryl Rolley has been hired as Chief Customer Officer at RealPage. Rolley was EVP, Global Sales at Ventyx, led global operations for Ariba and was SVP and Managing Director of International Operations at FreeMarkets. He started his career with McKinsey working as an engagement manager in Pittsburgh and São Paulo, Brazil.

CSC’s Cybersecurity Consulting GM Joins Unisys to Lead Global Security Solutions

Tom Patterson has joined Unisys Corporation as VP for Global Security Solutions. Patterson is a recognized industry expert and thought leader in cyber security, with more than 25 years of experience in leading security organizations both in the commercial and public sector. Patterson most recently served as global GM of CSC's cybersecurity consulting business. Prior to that, he was the Chief Security Officer for secure payment provider MagTek, CEO of Command Information, a Carlyle Group portfolio company he founded, and previously held executive positions at Deloitte, KPMG, and IBM.

Amazon HR Exec Joins inContact as CHRO

Cloud contact center software company inContact named Trent Savage as the new CHRO. Trent joins inContact from, where he led HR for the Americas Customer Service organization. Prior to Amazon, Trent worked at eBay as the Senior HR Director for Global Customer Services and at Procter & Gamble, where his most recent assignment was based in the Philippines leading HR for P&G's Asia Region Shared Services business.

Rocket Fuel Gets Former LivingSocial and Yahoo! Exec as New HR Leader

Jennifer Trzepacz has joined enterprise software company Rocket Fuel as SVP of Human Resources. She has held senior positions at a number of global organizations, including LivingSocial where she served as VP, HR. While at Salesforce, she evaluated, selected and implemented various talent management systems resulting in increased alignment and performance. Jennifer also held senior HR leadership roles at Lithium Technologies, Yahoo! and Electronic Arts.

Jive Software Names iCEO and Former Skype CMO Elisa Steele as Permanent CEO

Elisa Steele, the former CMO of Skype, has been named CEO of Jive Software after holding the position on an interim basis for about three months. The move followed the retirement of Tony Zingale, the former CEO who saw Jive through its 2011 IPO. Steele has also worked at Microsoft, Yahoo and NetApp. Steele joined Jive last year as EVP in charge of marketing, but was quickly promoted to CMO, then president in an “Office of the CEO,” which she occupied with Bill Lanfri, a partner at Accel Partners and a Jive director.

Zingale, who endorsed Steele for the CEO job when he left, will remain as executive chairman.

Thought Leader in IT Security Joins Security Vendor Sophos as CTO

Sophos named Joe Levy as CTO. Prior to Sophos, Levy was CTO for Blue Coat Systems following the company's May 2013 acquisition of security analytics pioneer Solera Networks, where he had served as CTO since 2008. Prior to Solera, Levy was CTO of SonicWALL (acquired by Dell), where he led research and development teams. Earlier in his career, Levy spent six years with the security-focused value added reseller OneNet, where he led product and service design and development, including managed services.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
