Verizon also reorganized its operating structure. John G. Stratton, 53, formerly Verizon's EVP and President - Global Enterprise and Consumer Wireline, has been appointed to a new role as EVP and President of Operations, with operational responsibility for Verizon's wireless and wireline businesses.
Daniel S. Mead, 61, formerly Verizon's EVP and President and CEO - Verizon Wireless, has been appointed to a new role as EVP and President of Strategic Initiatives, with responsibility for directing the transfer of Verizon's wireline operations in California, Florida and Texas to Frontier Communications Corporation. Mead expects to retire following the completion of the strategic initiatives on which he is working.
Cisco VP Leaves to Join European Company Interxion as Marketing & Strategy Chief
Interxion Holding, an European provider of cloud and carrier-neutral data centre colocation services, named Giuliano Di Vitantonio as Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer. Di Vitantonio joins Interxion from Cisco, where he was VP of Marketing for Data Center & Cloud. Prior to that, Di Vitantonio was at Hewlett-Packard, where he held a broad range of positions, the latest one being Head of Global Marketing for Business Intelligence.
Juniper Networks Adds Two Directors in Agreement With Elliott
Network gear maker Juniper Networks named two independent directors Jim Dolce, 51, and Rahul Merchant, 58, to its board and said activist investor Elliott Management would support the nominations. Juniper and Paul Singer-controlled Elliott were in talks about adding a number of new directors to the company’s board. Elliott and its associates held an 8.7 percent stake in Juniper as of November.
Dolce is now CEO of Mobile security firm Lookout. Before his current role, he was VP Carrier Market Development at Akamai. Dolce has founded four companies, has experience managing both private and public organizations, and has led teams ranging from three to 3,000. He built Unisphere, which was sold to Juniper Networks, and played a key role in scaling Juniper to a multi-billion-dollar revenue run rate from 2002-2006, as EVP of Worldwide Field Operations. He has a current role on the board of optical transmission outfit Infinera.
Rahul N. Merchant is New York City’s former Chief Information and Innovation Officer and the seventh Commissioner of the Department of IT and Telecommunications. Prior to joining the City, he was an Operating Partner at Exigen Capital and served as an EVP, CIO, and Member of the Executive Committee of Fannie Mae. He also served as SVP, Chief Investment Officer, and CTO of Merrill Lynch from 2000 to 2004. Merchant is on the board of Fair Isaac and Emulex.
T-Mobile Promotes CMO Mike Sievert to COO; Makes Other Senior Leadership Changes
T-Mobile is promoting its CMO Mike Sievert to COO. Tom Keys, who had been COO of T-Mobile’s MetroPCS unit, was named president of T-Mobile’s indirect channels, while Jim Alling, who has been COO of the T-Mobile business unit, is retiring.
Before joining T-Mobile in 2012, Sievert was CEO of Discovery Bay Games, a Seattle-based mobile gaming company. Previously, he was Chief Commercial Officer of Clearwire, Corporate VP, Global Windows Group at Microsoft and EVP, CMO at AT&T.
SVP, Marketing Andrew Sherrard will take Sievert’s place as CMO. He formerly served as Acting CMO & SVP, Post-Paid Marketing at the company. He has been with the company since 2003, holding several positions. Before joining T-Mobile, he was a Marketing Manager at Clorox.
Other promotions include Ami Silverman, the new EVP of T-Mobile Retail, Jon Freier who has been promoted to EVP of Customer Care, Brian Brueckman the new SVP of Direct to Customer and Janice Kapner who is promoted to SVP of Corporate Communications.
ADTRAN CFO Retires; Interim CFO Named
James Matthews retires as CFO of ADTRAN, provider of telecommunications networking equipment and internetworking products. Matthews was SVP – Finance, CFO, Treasurer and Secretary of the Company. Matthews is retiring in order to spend time with his family. ADTRAN elected Michael Foliano, SVP – Global Operations, to the position of Interim CFO.
