Fifth Third Bancorp Appoints Director with Business Experience Running Operations for a Professional Football Team

Fifth Third Bancorp named Katherine B. Blackburn, EVP of the Cincinnati Bengals, to the Bancorp Board. Blackburn joined the Bengals in 1991. As EVP, Blackburn is involved in player contract negotiations and oversees the club's management of the NFL salary cap. She serves as chair of the NFL’s diversity committee and the Super Bowl committee and is one of six trustees of the Player Retirement Benefit. Blackburn serves on the board of the Greater Cincinnati Boys and Girls Clubs, is a member of the Cincinnati Regional Business Committee and the Joint Banks Steering Committee. 

Red Hat Appoints GE Veteran as Board Member

Red Hat appointed Charlene Begley, 47, a former executive at CEO, to its board of Directors. Begley served in various capacities at General Electric from 1988 through December 2013. Most recently, she served in a dual role as SVP and Chief Information Officer, as well as the President and CEO of GE’s Home and Business Solutions business. Begley is currently a director of The NASDAQ OMX Group and WPP plc.

Recently Retired United Technologies Exec Joins Board of Hexcel Corporation

Composites company Hexcel Corporation appointed Cynthia Egnotovich, 57, to its Board of Directors. Egnotovich recently retired from United Technologies Corporation, where she served as President, Aerospace Systems Customer Service. Previously, Cynthia served as President, Nacelles and Interior Systems for Goodrich Corporation. Cynthia joined Goodrich in 1986 and held leadership roles of increasing significance, prior to its acquisition in 2012 by United Technologies. Cynthia began her career with Goodrich in finance before moving into general management.

Well Respected Industry Innovator Joins Bazaarvoice Board

Ratings and reviews software company Bazaarvoice named Mary T. McDowell to its board. She served as a member of the Nokia Leadership Team for nine years until 2012. During her tenure at Nokia, she held the positions of EVP for Mobile Phones, EVP and chief development officer, and EVP and general manager of Enterprise Solutions. Before that, she was SVP of Strategy and Corporate Development and SVP of the Industry Standard Server Group at Hewlett Packard and Compaq. McDowell currently holds board positions with Autodesk and UBM plc.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
