Giant Tech: GE Software, Oracle, IBM, SAP & Others Facing Board and Exec Moves Featured

GE Names CTO and Research Exec for GE Software

GE appoints Harel Kodesh, 56, as VP, CTO, GE Software. Kodesh joined GE from Nurego, where he served as CEO and founder. He served as an EVP at VMWare and President of Cloud Infrastructure Business and CEO of Digital Echo at EMC. He served as the CEO of Decho, CEO of Mozy, Chief Product Officer of Amdocs, President and CEO of Wingcast Corporation, a joint venture between the Ford Motor Company and Qualcomm, VP of the Productivity Appliance Division and VP of the Information Appliances Division at Microsoft.

GE also named Colin Parris VP of software research for GE Software. Parris came from IBM where he was most recently VP of systems research for IBM Research. Parris also was general manager of IBM's Power Unix systems unit.

Oracle Appoints IBM Retail Leader as New SVP, GM of Oracle Retail

Oracle named Jill Puleri as SVP and GM, Oracle Retail. Puleri will be responsible for leading the Oracle Retail Global Business Unit. Having held various leadership positions in sales, marketing and consulting, Puleri brings over 20 years of experience and deep domain expertise in the retail industry, most recently serving as the Worldwide Retail Industry Leader for IBM Global Business Services.

IBM’s General Counsel to Retire

Robert C. Weber, 64, SVP, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, and General Counsel will retire from IBM. As of that date, he will be employed as a Senior Advisor to the company until he retires later in 2015. Weber has been an officer of IBM since 2006.

SAP's Telecom Business Unit GM Joins BlackBerry as SVP, Global Carrier Sales

BlackBerry named Howard Stevens as Senior Vice President of Global Carrier Sales. Stevens most recently served as general manager of the Global Telecom business unit at SAP. He also held sales leadership roles at Amdocs, Vallent, and Chernikeeff Networks, the first Cisco Systems reseller in the U.K. He also has a strong track record for revenue and margin growth, leading large organizations as well as building sales teams and processes in entrepreneurial start-up environments.

HP’s Chief Strategy Officer Joins Carbonite as President and CEO

Cloud backup services company Carbonite has named Mohamad Ali as the company's President and CEO. He was also elected to the company's Board. He succeeds Carbonite co-founder David Friend, who will now serve as Executive Chairman. Ali joins Carbonite from Hewlett-Packard, where he served as Chief Strategy Officer. Before HP, he served as CEO of the Workforce Optimization division of Aspect Software, Avaya's Global Services division as its President, and held senior positions at IBM.

Accenture Appoints New CSO from Within Ranks

Accenture named Omar Abbosh, 48, as chief strategy officer. He succeeds Shawn Collinson, who will retire from the company. Abbosh is currently senior MD – Growth & Strategy for the company’s Resources operating group, with responsibility for shaping the operating group’s strategy, including acquisition activities as well as joint ventures with clients in the smart grid space. He is also responsible for several of Accenture’s industry business services, including Accenture Smart Grid Services and Accenture Energy Consumer Services.

Box CIO Moves to Yahoo! as VP for Corporate Applications and Platforms

Ben Haines, the first CIO of cloud-based storage and collaboration software company Box, joined Yahoo! as their new VP for Corporate Applications and Platforms. Haines joined Box in June 2013 as the company’s first CIO. Prior to joining Box, he held CIO positions at Hostess Brands and Pabst Brewing Co.

ADP AdvancedMD Appoints CTO to Drive Innovative Product Development

ADP AdvancedMD appoints Arman Samani as CTO. Samani has more than 16 years of experience in healthcare information technology. He has held several leadership positions at MEDHOST, 3M, Medicity and Allscripts. He will now oversee ADP AdvancedMD's technology development process, including the development of interoperable solutions tailored to smaller practices.

Salesforce Appoints YouTube CEO to Board

Salesforce appoints Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, to its Board. Before heading YouTube, she was SVP for advertising and commerce of Google. Wojcicki joined Google in 1999 as the 16th employee and served as the search engine's first marketing executive. At Google, Wojcicki has overseen product management of AdSense, Google Book Search and Google Video as well as the syndication of the company's products.

Recently Retired CEO of Accenture's Technology Group Joins Board of Western Digital

Western Digital appointed Martin Cole, 58, to its board of directors. Before retiring earlier this year, Cole served in several senior executive leadership positions during a 34-year career at Accenture. Most recently, he served as CEO of Accenture's Technology Group. Cole joined Accenture in 1980 and also served as CEO of the Communications, Media & Technology operating group, CEO of the Public Service operating group and as global MD of the Outsourcing & Infrastructure Delivery group. Cole serves as a director for Cloudera and the Avon Old Farms School.

SanDisk Names New Chief Legal Officer

SanDisk appointed Mark Brazeal as SVP and Chief Legal Officer. Brazeal spent the past 14 years at Broadcom where he most recently served as SVP and Senior Deputy General Counsel. Prior to Broadcom, Brazeal focused on IP licensing and litigation at law firms Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Yuasa and Hara, and Howrey & Simon.

Siemens Health Services CEO Will Join Cerner upon Acquisition

John Glaser, CEO of Siemens Health Services, will become SVP of Cerner upon its acquisition of Siemens. Prior to joining Siemens, Dr. Glaser was VP and CIO at Partners HealthCare. Previously, he was VP, Information Systems at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and managed the Healthcare Information Systems consulting practice at Arthur D. Little. Dr. Glaser was the founding chairman of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). He is also past president of the Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Fiserv Appoints eCommerce Expert in Consumer and Financial Services Domain to Oversee Digital Banking Solutions

Fiserv named Marc West as president of its Digital Channels business. West was previously SVP of banking and aggregation for Electronic Payments at Fiserv. Before joining Fiserv in 2013, West was the president and CEO at Mamasource, managing director of e-Business at Barclays Global Investors, and held leadership positions at H&R Block and Electronic Arts. In addition to launching and selling his own start-up, West was an advisor to numerous start-ups and as the CTO for several online trading platforms.

Red Hat Appoints GE Veteran as Board Member; CFO Plans Retirement

Red Hat appointed Charlene Begley, 47, a former executive at CEO, to its board of Directors. Begley served in various capacities at General Electric from 1988 through December 2013. Most recently, she served in a dual role as SVP and Chief Information Officer, as well as the President and CEO of GE’s Home and Business Solutions business. Begley is currently a director of The NASDAQ OMX Group and WPP plc.

Charles E. Peters, Jr., 63, CFO of Red Hat, notified the Company of his decision to retire in the next 12 months, assuming a suitable successor has been determined by the Company and a transition to that successor has been completed. Peters has served the Company as its CFO for over 10 years.

Citrix Gets New Board Member and Chief Strategy Officer

Citrix added Francis A. deSouza, 44, technology industry veteran and president of Illumina, a leading biotechnology company, to its board. deSouza founded two technology companies, both of which were acquired, and spent time at Microsoft before serving in five different executive roles at Symantec, including group president, enterprise products and services. He began his career at IBM’s TJ Watson Research Center and went on to consult on technical and change management projects with Gemini.

Geir Ramleth is joining Citrix as SVP and Chief Strategy Officer. Ramleth will be responsible for a range of strategic, technical and operational teams to fully realize the company’s vision of a software-defined workplace. From 2002 until 2013 he served as SVP and CIO of Bechtel Corporation. Before that, he was president and CEO of Genuity, a Bechtel Enterprises company formed to deliver Internet and data services until its sale to GTE and also held management positions with Oracle, PageMart Wireless, and PacTel Personal Communications.

Iron Mountain’s EVP, Strategy and Talent Resigns

Anne S. Drapeau, 44, EVP, Strategy and Talent of Iron Mountain, resigns. Before her current role, Drapeau served as EVP, HR and administration. She was a consultant to the Company earlier. Prior to joining the Company, Drapeau co-founded the Center for Leading Organizations, a management-consulting firm focused on organizational effectiveness and development and served as managing partner. Drapeau served as EVP and chief people officer at Vistaprint.

Rackspace Appoints Former Ariba President to Board

Rackspace, the managed cloud company, named Kevin Costello, 52, has joined the Rackspace board of directors. A veteran in the SaaS industry, Costello served as the president of Ariba for six years. When SAP acquired Ariba in 2012, Costello continued to serve as president, where he focused on driving the Ariba solution through the SAP cloud go-to-market organization to ensure successful integration. Prior to Ariba and SAP, Costello served in various senior management positions during his 18-year career at Andersen Business Consulting.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
