Insurance Technology Announcements – Year Ending November 1, 2014

AIG Appoints CIO from Kaiser Permanente

American International Group has named Philip Fasano to the newly created role of EVP and CIO. Mr. Fasano, who will join AIG in October, will report to AIG President and CEO, Peter D. Hancock. Mr. Fasano joins AIG from Kaiser Permanente, where he was EVP and CIO. He has extensive experience, is a proven leader in the information technology field, and has served as CIO at several high-profile financial services firms over the course of his 30-year career. At AIG, Mr. Fasano will be responsible for oversight of the company’s global information technology, including reviewing and updating technology systems and platforms, along with data management and security. Prior to working for Kaiser Permanente, Mr. Fasano founded Capital Sourcing Group in 2005, a company focused on providing strategic advice, and consulting services to the Fortune 500 and the Department of Homeland Security. In addition, Mr. Fasano has served in IT leadership roles at Capital One Financial, JP Morgan Chase, Deutsche Financial Services, Bankers Trust, among other companies.

Allianz Life Promotes IT Exec as CISO

Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life) promoted Dave Stacy to senior director of IT Controls and Risk Management and chief information security officer. Stacy leads IT risk, controls and security strategic planning and ensures consistency across IT and within the company. In addition, he is responsible for protecting the company's information assets and technology. Stacy reports to Allianz Life Chief Information Officer, Jeff Palm. Stacy has more than 30 years of experience in IT security and risk management. Most recently since 2011, he was a senior IT manager for Allianz Life where he led teams responsible for identity and access management and network security. His teams administered company firewalls, data loss prevention technologies and coordinated incident management. Prior to that, Stacy was the owner and principal consultant of D. W. Stacy & Associates in Blaine, Minn. from 2009 to 2011. In that role, he led the implementation of fraud detection software to enhance information security for a twin-cities based healthcare company. Prior to that, Stacy was a director with Thrivent Financial in Minneapolis where he gave strategic direction for the Information Risk Management and Assurance program from 2007 to 2009. He was also a director in Enterprise IT Security & Controls with St. Jude Medical, Inc. in St. Paul, Minn. for more than five years. Stacy gained extensive IT experience by holding managerial and analyst roles in IT security and risk management for various organizations such as Guidant Corporation (currently part of Boston Scientific Corporation in St. Paul, Minn.), UNUM Corporation in Portland, Maine and Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc. (currently Verizon Communications in Arlington, Va.) since 1981.

The Hartford Appoints EVP of Operations and Technology from EXL

The Hartford announced that Bill Bloom will rejoin The Hartford as EVP of Operations and Technology, reporting to Swift. In this new role, Bloom will assume day-to-day responsibility of the IT and operations organizations, as well as the company’s technology strategy. MGIC Appoints CTO from SunTrust

Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (MGIC), the principal subsidiary of MGIC Investment Corporation has hired Bob Candelmo to serve as the company's Chief Technology Officer. First American Appoints Database Solutions Group President

First American Financial Corporation announced that George Livermore has been named president of its Database Solutions group. In his new role, Livermore is responsible for developing and executing strategies for using the company's existing assets to expand its line of data products and services. The group's database contains information on more than 99 percent of properties in the United States, including 1 billion current and historical real estate transactions. Livermore returns to First American after serving the company from 1997 until 2010, when a corporate spin-off separated First American Financial Corporation and CoreLogic, Inc. He had served as president of The First American Corporation's Property Information and Services group prior to the separation and as group executive, Data and Analytics, for CoreLogic after the separation. Livermore has more than 25 years of experience in property information, analytics and related businesses.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
