Yahoo! Hires CIO from Netflix 

Mike Kail has joined Yahoo! as CIO and SVP, Infrastructure. Most recently, he served as VP of IT Operations at Netflix. Prior to that, he was VP of IT Operations at Attensity, where he was responsible for the Americas data center operations team, including managing various big data systems including their Hadoop cluster, HBase, and MongoDB components.

LinkedIn’s Products and User Experience Leader Resigns 

Dipchand "Deep" Nishar, 45, SVP, Products and User Experience of LinkedIn, resigns. Nishar served as a VP of Products at LinkedIn; Product Advisor of Aardvark; Senior Director of Products, and Director of Wireless Products of APAC at Google; and an Advisor of Adku. He was a Member of the founding team of the Universal Application Network (UAN) BU at Siebel Systems. He founded Patkai Networks and served as its VP of Products. He served as an Associate of BCG and held various product management roles at Cummins Engine Company.

j2 Global’s Long-Time Director Resigns

Michael P. Schulhof, 71, resigned from the cloud services and digital media firm j2 Global’s Board. Schulhof has been a director of j2 Global since 1997. Schulhof is a managing partner of GTI Capital Group, a New York and India based firm that specializes in PE investments, as well as advisory services in the aerospace, healthcare, energy and media sectors. From 1993 to 1996, he was President and CEO of Sony Corporation of America.

Conversant Hires Former Bing Shopping Executive

Conversant, the online advertising and marketing technology company, which was until recently known as ValueClick, has hired the former head of Bing Shopping, Raju Malhotra, as SVP of Products, to drive its product strategy. Malhotra was previously at Centro, and also served at Microsoft, leading product strategy and the launch of Bing Shopping. He also has served at McKinsey as a management consultant.

LogMeIn Names Voice Recognition Services Veteran Steven Chambers and Big Data Expert Marilyn Matz to Board 

LogMeIn has named Steven Chambers, 52, and Marilyn Matz, 60, to the company's board of directors. Most recently, Chambers served as President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, at Nuance Communications. Earlier, Chambers served as President of Nuance’s Mobility and Consumer Services Division, President of Enterprises Division, President of SpeechWorks Solutions BU, joining Nuance in 2003 as GM of Networks BU through SpeechWorks acquisition, where he was CMO. In addition to LogMeIn, Chambers currently serves on the board of CallMiner, speech analytics software provider to call-centers, and Jibo, the provider of the world's first consumer social robot.

A big data expert and visionary, Marilyn Matz is CEO and Co-Founder of Paradigm4, the company behind the SciDB computational database management system used to solve large-scale, complex analytical challenges on big and diverse data. She is also a co-chair of the Mass Technology Leadership Council's Big Data cluster. Prior to Paradigm4, she was a co-founder of Cognex and SVP of the company's PC Vision Products Group.

Hilary Schneider, 53, who was a LogMeIn director since 2011 and is the former EVP, Americas of Yahoo!, has resigned from the company's board.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
