Quest Diagnostics adds Noted National Health IT Expert to Board

Quest Diagnostics, the leading provider of diagnostic information services, elected Vicky Gregg to serve as a director. Gregg served as the CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee. Prior to being elected CEO, she served in a number of other leadership roles, including President and COO. Before that, she held a series of senior roles at Humana Health Plans. She was appointed to the U.S. National Institutes of Health Commission on Systemic Interoperability in 2004. A nurse by training, Gregg currently serves on the Boards of Team Health, First Horizon, TriZetto  and the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga. 

Dell CIO Joins Biotech Firm as EVP, Technology and Business Solutions

Biogen Idec appoints Adriana (Andi) Karaboutis as EVP, Technology and Business Solutions, leading IT operations and advance the company’s use of technology and data to enhance overall engagement with patients and healthcare providers. Karaboutis joins Biogen from Dell where she was VP and CIO, with responsibility for the company’s overall IT enterprise and customer experience. Her background also includes leadership roles in global IT and business operations at Ford Motor Company and General Motors.

AMN Healthcare Services Promotes SVP, IT as CIO

Jeanette Sanchez has been promoted to the role of CIO at AMN Healthcare Services, the healthcare workforce solutions company. She joined AMN in 2013 as SVP of IT. Sanchez previously held leadership roles like VP, IT at CareFusion; VP IT Global Business Solutions at Mattel and VP, and Americas IT at Bausch & Lomb. She also is Board Member of Mental Health Systems, a leading non-profit organization.

Former IBM and Blueprint Software Systems Exec to Lead Technology Initiatives at EHR Software Company

Nightingale Informatix, a cloud-based provider of electronic health record (EHR) software and related services, named Ray Payette as CTO. Prior to joining Nightingale, he was responsible for providing management, deployment, vision and strategy expertise to Blueprint Software Systems’ product line, as SVP, Engineering and Operations. Formerly a senior officer with the Canadian Air Forces, Ray has applied his unique skills in a number of executive lead roles for IBM Cognos.  Among other achievements, he led the team involved in the highly successful Cognos 10 offering.

Pulse Systems Hires CTO to Provide Value-Added Client Centric Solutions

Electronic healthcare management provider Pulse Systems has hired Michael Morrison as its new CTO and SVP of product development. Before coming to Pulse, Morrison founded numerous technology ventures and was a leader in technology and product management among public and privately held companies. He is a board member and advisor at Virtus Communications, a wireless support services firm.

Former Microsoft Exec Joins CentraState Healthcare System as CIO

The not-for-profit community health organization CentraState Healthcare System named John W. Ulett its new VP & CIO. Prior to CentraState, Ulett was VP of Financial and Information Management Systems at Community HealthCare Systems in Tennessee.  He began his career working at Microsoft and has more than 20 years of IT experience.

Anthelio’s CEO Joins Hanger’s Board

Asif Ahmad, CEO and director of Anthelio Healthcare Solutions, a provider of Analytics, EHR and health information management systems, has been named to the board of directors at Hanger, a provider of orthotic and prosthetic products. Prior to Anthelio, he was SVP, Information and Technology Services at McKesson Specialty Health. Before that, Ahmad served as VP, Diagnostic Services/CIO and Associate Dean at Duke University Health System and Medical Center. He was also CIO/CTO and Chair of Clinical Technology Council at The Ohio State University Health System and Medical Center.

Surescripts Names Health IT Expert as New CEO

Surescripts, the health information network, has appointed Tom Skelton as CEO. Skelton is a seasoned CEO with expertise in both the healthcare technology and healthcare services sectors. Skelton held previous leadership roles with Foundation Radiology Group, MED3000, and Misys Healthcare Systems.

TransUnion Healthcare’s New President is Former McKesson Exec

TransUnion, a provider of health care information management systems, named Gerry McCarthy as the new President of TransUnion Healthcare. McCarthy has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare information technologies. Most recently, he spent two years as Chief Strategic Officer of HealthMEDX, a clinical solutions company. In a number of executive leadership roles at McKesson healthcare IT companies, McCarthy led diverse teams that included product management, physician solutions and sales.

Monarch Medical Technologies Appoints SVP of Sales and Marketing from Capsule Tech

Monarch Medical Technologies, the provider of clinical decision support for drug dosing in hospitalized patients, appointed Glenn Petracci as its new SVP of sales and marketing. Formerly the VP of sales for Capsule Tech, Petracci brings more than 25 years of experience in both the clinical and business aspects of healthcare and IT. Prior to joining Capsule Tech, Petracci held executive sales and marketing positions at Philips Healthcare, RecoverCare, Sten-Barr Medical, and AMICAS. In addition, he worked with FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., UroCor, Nycomed/Amersham and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.

HealthSpot Names Former Dayton Hudson and Revco Exec as New Chairman Bringing Retail Channel Expertise

HealthSpot appointed experienced business leader Boake Sells as chairman. Formerly a member of the board and COO of Dayton Hudson and Chairman and CEO of Revco Drug Stores, Sells will help guide HealthSpot in its roll out to community pharmacies nationwide. In 1987, Sells joined Revco Drug Stores as chairman and CEO. In 1983, he joined Dayton Hudson and was elected to the board and became COO of this $10 billion retail company. Sells began his retail career in 1969 joining Cole National Corporation, a diversified specialty retailer, and rose to president, COO and board member.

Misfit Wearables Hires Apple iPad Co-Inventor as VP of Hardware

Misfit Wearables, the developer of highly wearable sensor products and services for wellness and medical applications, has hired former Manager, Macintosh Product Design at Apple, Josh Banko, as VP of hardware. Apple credits Banko as one of the co-inventors of the iPad, but in early January 2013 he was terminated. In December 2013, he sued Apple for wrongfully terminating his employment. Earlier he has served as Engineering Lead, Mobile Product Design; Manager, iPad Product Design; Senior Mechanical Engineer and Mechanical Engineer, Mobile Product Design at Apple.

Emdeon VP Joins Aegis Health as CIO

Aegis Health Group, the provider of population health management solutions for hospitals, has named Chuck Steinmetz to the position of CIO. Steinmetz joins Aegis from Emdeon, a national healthcare IT firm, where he was VP of operations for the channel partner division overseeing client and vendor relationships. Steinmetz also served as an IT leader for HMS, now MEDHOST, and OnLife Health (Gordian) in addition to several smaller HCIT startups.

HealthTrust Hires CIO From Wellmont Health System

HealthTrust, a Parallon affiliate, named Kent Petty as CIO. Petty most recently served as system VP and CIO at Wellmont Health System where he developed and implemented a Health IT strategic plan for the multifacility, multistate health system. Petty has worked for Marriott, HCR ManorCare, American Medical Laboratories and PwC as well as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For the past 29 years, Petty has served in the active and reserve components of the U.S. Navy. He is a Naval Intelligence Officer and qualified as an information dominance warfare officer. In 2013, Commander Petty deployed to Afghanistan where he served as the deputy director of the Joint Intelligence Operations Center.

T-System Names Industry Veteran as CEO for Growth and Innovation in Emergency Care

T-System named Roger Davis, formerly a managing director at Accenture, as new president and CEO. Davis’ other key leadership positions include executive director at Perot/Dell Services, CEO of 20/20 Healthcare LLC/Viztek and VP at GE Healthcare/IDX Systems. On the provider side, Davis was chief business officer at Denver Health and Hospital System as well as COO for the faculty practice at the University of Texas Health Science Center.

Davis succeeds John Trzeciak, who has served as interim CEO. Trzeciak, operating partner for Francisco Partners, has served on the T-System board since 2010 when Francisco Partners became a financial sponsor for the company. With this change, Trzeciak will resume his former role on the board.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
