HP’s CEO Adds on Chair Role and Makes Other Board Changes 

Hewlett-Packard CEO and President Meg Whitman, 57, was additionally appointed as Chairman, after the resignation of Ralph Whitworth, 59, for health reasons. Before joining HP, Whitman served as a part-time strategic advisor to Kleiner, Perkins, Caulfield & Byers. Previously, she was President and CEO of eBay and held executive-level positions at Hasbro, a toy company, FTD, a floral products company, The Stride Rite Corporation, a footwear company, The Walt Disney Company, an entertainment company, and Bain & Company, a consulting company. Whitman also serves as a director of The Procter & Gamble Company and Zipcar. 

Patricia Russo, 62, a former CEO at Alcatel-Lucent, would be the lead independent director on the HP board. Prior to the merger of Alcatel and Lucent in 2006, she served as Chairman and CEO of Lucent Technologies and before that, as the company’s President and CEO. Russo is currently a director of Alcoa, General Motors, KKR Management LLC and Merck & Co.

ServiceNow Adds Seasoned Female Execs as Directors

ServiceNow appointed Susan Bostrom, 53, and Anita Sands, 38, to its board of directors. Bostrom spent 14 years at Cisco, serving most recently as EVP and CMO. Bostrom served in a number of positions at Cisco, including SVP, Global Government Affairs and the Internet Business Solutions Group and VP of Applications and Services Marketing. She currently serves on the boards of Varian Medical Systems, Cadence Design Systems, Marketo, and Rocket Fuel.

Anita Sands joins the ServiceNow board with significant financial services background, most recently serving as group managing director, head of change leadership and a member of the Wealth Management Americas Executive Committee of UBS Financial Services. She also served as COO at UBS. Prior to joining UBS, she was MD and head of transformation management at Citigroup Global Technology and Operations organization. She also held several leadership positions with RBC Financial Group and CIBC. Sands currently serves on the board of Symantec.

Zynga Names Google Engineering Exec to Board

Zynga appoints Dr. Regina E. Dugan, 51, VP of Engineering and leader of the Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group at Google, to the company's Board. Prior to her current role at Google, Dr. Dugan was SVP and a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Motorola Mobility. In February 2014, ATAP transitioned to Google's Android, Chrome & Apps product area. Previously, she served as the 19th Director and first female leader of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the principal agency within the U.S. Department of Defense for research, development and demonstration of high-risk, high-payoff capabilities for the future combat force. Dr. Dugan also serves on the Board of Varian Medical Systems.

WebMD Appoints Director with Extensive Leadership Experience in Medical Research and Education 

WebMD appointed Kristiina Vuori, M.D., Ph.D., President and Interim CEO of Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, to the Company's Board. Dr. Vuori leads the Institute's academic, scientific and general operations. Dr. Vuori also holds the Pauline and Stanley Foster Presidential Chair at the Institute and serves as Professor at the Institute's National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center, an interdisciplinary basic and translational research effort mobilizing over 400 scientists that is one of only seven centers designated as basic cancer research centers by the NCI. From 2005 until 2013, Dr. Vuori also led the Cancer Center.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
