Joel Anderson, president and CEO of, has left  the online giant to assume the role of president at Five Below, the retailer targeting pre-teens and teens. Anderson spent three years as president and CEO of Prior to that spent four years in senior operations roles at the company. He also spent 12 years at Toys "R" Us, in various roles and activities including marketing, online, new ventures and operations.

Walmart has appointed Fernando Madeira, CEO of's Latin America unit, as the new head of Madeira has driven impressive online sales at Wal-Mart's Latin American e-commerce. He is Co-Founder and former CEO of Terra Networks.

GE Appoints Digital and Software Leader for Power & Water Business

GE appointed Ganesh Bell as the Chief Digital Officer and GM of Commercial Software and Analytics for the Power & Water business. Recently, he served as EVP, GM & Chief Products Officer at ServiceSource. Prior to ServiceSource, Bell held key positions at SAP including VP of Product Strategy & Management for the business intelligence & technology platform group, and VP of Portfolio Strategy in the Office of the CEO. Bell also held leadership positions across PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards and YOUcentric.

Facebook Hires PayPal President; Adds Former Android Director to BD Role

PayPal President David Marcus is leaving the company to lead Facebook as VP, Messaging Products. Marcus joined PayPal as VP in 2011, after it bought his company, Zong, and was promoted to president in 2012. PayPal's leadership team will report to eBay president and CEO John Donahoe until a replacement for Marcus is found.

John Lagerling joined Facebook as VP of BD. Lagerling was previous director of Android global partnerships at Google. He was responsible for all business development of the Nexus device program. He was VP & GM, Japan & Korea at AdMob; Head, Mobile Business and Product, Japan & Asia-Pacific at Google Japan, Manager & Executive Advisor at NTT DoCoMo.

Yahoo! Corporate Development VP Leaves

James Loftus, formerly the VP and co-head of Corporate Development at Yahoo, has left the company to become a partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Earlier he has worked as Senior Corporate Counsel - Mergers & Acquisitions at Google, Senior Associate at Shearman & Sterling, in Legal Department at Boston Red Sox, Law Clerk Abrams, Gorelick, Friedman & Jacobson.

Neustar Appoints Data Services VP

Neustar, the real-time information services & analytics company, appoints John A. Devolites as VP of Data Services. Prior to joining Neustar, Devolites served as GM at TEOCO Corporation. Before that, he served as Group President for Telcordia Technologies and served as their Board member to the Federal Communications Commission Network Reliability and Interoperability Council (NRIC). His previous roles also include: CEO of IOS2, Global Partner at Andersen Worldwide and senior positions with American Management Systems, Alexander Proudfoot and Booz Allen Hamilton.

Alibaba Group Names New Head of International Corporate Affairs

Alibaba Group appointed Jim Wilkinson as SVP, Head of International Corporate Affairs. Prior to his appointment at Alibaba, Wilkinson was EVP of Communications for PepsiCo. Wilkinson joined PepsiCo from Brunswick Group where he served in San Francisco and Texas as managing partner for international business and financial strategy. Prior, Wilkinson was Chief of Staff for U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, serving as a senior strategist and counsellor and also served as senior advisor to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
