Cisco Exec Joins Comcast as SVP, Premises Technology 

Comcast appoints Ken Klaer as Senior Vice President, Premises Technology, leading the team that develops innovative CPE devices used to deliver Comcast's video, voice, data and cross-platform applications in customers' homes. Klaer comes to Comcast from Cisco, where he most recently was part of their Service Provider Video Technology Group as Senior Director, Business Development Connected Devices BU. Prior to that he held key senior management roles at Scientific Atlanta, which was acquired by Cisco. 

Barclays Appoints Chief Operations and Technology Officer

Barclays has appointed Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s (CBA) CIO Michael Harte as Chief Operations and Technology Officer. Prior to CBA, he was CIO, IT and Operations and Technology roles at PNC Financial Services and at Citigroup.

Caterpillar’s CIO Resigns

Randy Krotowski, VP with responsibility for the Global Information Services (GIS) Division and the company's CIO, has resigned from Caterpillar. Caterpillar will immediately begin a global search to find a new GIS VP and CIO.

Lowe's Appoints Insider as New CIO

SVP U.S. home improvement and SVP IT infrastructure & operations Paul Ramsay has been named CIO at Lowe's. In his former role, he was responsible for all technology services and omni-channel platforms. Before joining Lowe's, he worked for Hess Corporation for 15 years, most recently as VP global infrastructure.

Deutsche Bank Appoints Divisional CIO from Goldman Sachs

Deutsche Bank appointed Michael Grimaldi as CIO for its Corporate Banking & Securities and Global Transaction Banking business divisions. Grimaldi joins from Goldman Sachs, where he was a Partner and Global Head of Securities Division Technology. He has spent the last 20 years of his career at Goldman Sachs in a variety of roles including Head of Technology & Regional CIO, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Prior to this, Grimaldi spent seven years working at GTE Government Systems in mobile telecommunications research and development.

Target Hires Former Homeland Security Tech Adviser as New CIO after Massive Data Breach Last Year 

Target has named Robert P. “Bob” DeRodes, 62, as its new EVP & CIO. He replaces Beth M. Jacob, 51, who abruptly left in early March, after a massive data breach last year. DeRodes has been a senior IT advisor for the Center for CIO Leadership, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and the U.S. Department of Justice. DeRodes will join Target from DeRodes Enterprises LLC, a management consultancy he founded in 2010. Prior to that, he was EVP of Global Operations and Technology at First Data. He also served as EVP, IT and CIO of Home Depot and held senior technology positions at CitiBank, USAA Federal Savings Bank, and Delta Air Lines. He serves on the boards of NCR Corporation as well as privately held Veracode, which offers cloud-based application security.

The company is continuing its active search for a Chief Information Security Officer and a Chief Compliance Officer.

Intuit hired "Nat" Rajesh Natarajan to be the CTO and vice president of Product Management and Development for Intuit TurboTax, the online tax preparation service. He is an accomplished leader and engineer of innovative software and services, most recently serving as vice president, global credit expansion at PayPal. Agilent Technologies Names CTO for Keysight Technologies

Agilent Technologies names Jay Alexander as Keysight Technologies' CTO. Agilent's Electronic Measurement Group is expected to begin operating as Keysight Technologies in August this year. Alexander has held numerous leadership positions within Agilent's Electronic Measurement Group, including his most recent role as vice president and general manager for the Oscilloscope and Protocol Division. Alexander joined Hewlett-Packard in 1986 as a manufacturing and test engineer, moved to R&D as a software development engineer and subsequently served in various R&D management positions.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Appoints CIO from GE Capital 

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide appoints Martha Poulter as the company's new EVP and CIO. She succeeds Roger Berry, who is set to retire. Poulter most recently served as Vice President and CIO, GE Capital. Since joining General Electric in 1995, Poulter held a series of senior information technology leadership positions such as eBusiness Vice President, Quality Leader, and regional Americas CIO for GE Capital. Poulter is a Board Member of the Hispanic Federation and the Norwalk Community College Foundation.

CMS Energy Appoints CIO from Within Utility Sector

Pacific Gas and Electric Co’s VP of business technology Brian Rich joins as CIO of CMS Energy. Prior to joining PG&E, Rich held a series of progressively responsible positions for Accenture, starting in 1996, providing strategic and technological services to companies worldwide.

Rite Aid Hires CIO Matt Lynch from DICK’S Sporting Goods

Matt Lynch, an information technology executive with nearly 30 years’ experience, is joining Rite Aid as senior vice president and CIO. Most recently, Lynch served as senior vice president and CIO for DICK’S Sporting Goods, the largest U.S. based full-line omni-channel sporting goods retailer. Prior to that, Lynch held various executive IT positions at ShopKo Stores Operating Co., American West Airlines, Air Wisconsin Airlines and Runzheimer International. Lynch began his career as a software engineer with Sperry Aerospace.

NASDAQ Re-Appoints Former Exec as President of Global Corporate, Information & Technology Solutions 

Adena Friedman will rejoin NASDAQ OMX as President of the company's Global Corporate, Information & Technology Solutions. Friedman was a key member of NASDAQ OMX's management team for over a decade, serving in a variety of roles including head of the company's data products business, corporate strategy, as well as CFO. Friedman was most recently CFO and Managing Director of The Carlyle Group.

PetSmart Hires CIO from Hallmark

Hallmark CIO of Technology and Business Enablement, Michael Goodwin, joins specialty pet supplies and services company PetSmart as SVP & CIO. Goodwin began his career at Hallmark as an end-user technology analyst in 1990 and has held positions of increasing responsibility since then. Prior to joining Hallmark Cards, Goodwin served as an officer in the United States Army.

WestJet Airlines Names Airlines Industry Veteran as New CIO

EVP & CIO Rocky Wiggins joins WestJet Airlines from Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines. Prior to his work with Sun Country, he was SVP and CIO at AirTran Airways, and before that VP responsible for Delivery Management at Sabre Airline Solutions, which makes the airline platform used by WestJet. He also held various positions over a 20-year career with US Airways.

Former LG Electronics Exec Joins InterDigital as CTO

InterDigital, a wireless research and development company, appoints Dr. Byung K. Yi as CTO and head of InterDigital Labs, from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). He was assistant division chief of engineering at FCC. Prior to that, Dr. Yi was Senior EVP at LG Electronics, where he headed the company's North American R&D center.

Former Avaya Exec Joins Polycom as EVP, Worldwide Engineering

Polycom appointed Michael Frendo as Executive Vice President of Worldwide Engineering. Frendo will assume responsibility from A.E. Natarajan, who will be leaving Polycom. Prior to joining Polycom, Frendo was the Senior Vice President of Architecture at Infinera. At Avaya, he was General Manager of the Unified Communications Solutions BU. He also held leadership roles at Juniper Networks, McDATA and Cisco, where he was Vice President for Systems and Software Engineering in the company's Voice Technology Group.

First Merchants’ CIO Resigns from Position to Take Up New Facilities Management Role

Robert R. Connors, 64, has resigned from his position as CIO of First Merchants Corporation to become the Executive Director of Facilities Management. Earlier, he served as SVP of Operations and Technology at the Corporation.

The Board appointed Stephan H. Fluhler, 45, as the SVP and CIO. In 2000, Fluhler began his career with First Merchants Bank as a Credit Analyst. He moved into the Corporation's Operations and Technology Division in 2001 and was promoted to the CTO position in 2004 where he has served for the past ten years.

Bass Pro Shops CIO Joins EZCORP in Similar Position

Bass Pro Shops CIO Bill Wood joins EZCORP, a market leader in specialty consumer finance as well as short-term cash solutions, as CIO. He has also served as VP, CIO, Supply Chain & Customer Care at Brookstone; Senior Director, IT at Dollar General Corporation; and many other roles. He served in the US Army earlier in his career.

Mozilla Appoints VP, Mobile to Additional Role of CTO 

Mozilla appoints VP of Mobile Engineering Andreas Gal as new CTO. He will continue as VP, Mobile. Gal co-founded the Boot to Gecko open mobile ecosystem and is driving its continued evolution as Firefox OS. Previously, he worked as a project scientist at the University of California, Irvine, working in the Secure Systems and Languages Laboratory of Professor Michael Franz. His background is in secure systems, type-safe languages, dynamic compilation, and VMs.

Former AOL Exec Joins Time as SVP, Strategic Mobile Development

U.S. Magazine company Time Inc. appointed Erynn Petersen as Senior Vice President, Strategic Mobile Development. Petersen joins from Outercurve, a foundation focused on developing open source projects between enterprise software companies, where she was Executive Director, responsible for working with the Board on the Foundation's fiscal plan and structure. Previously at AOL, Petersen served as Senior Vice President of Paid Services Engineering. Earlier, Petersen worked at Amazon supervising a number of projects including the launch of a third-party sellers' platform and at Microsoft.

Former Sprint and Lucent Exec Joins Kansas City Southern Railway Company as VP, IT

The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR) has appointed Wayne Godlewski VP, IT. Most recently, he served as vice president for Assurant Employee Benefits. He has also held leadership positions with Sprint, Lucent Technologies and Eastman Kodak. He brings experience with IT governance, implementation of ITILR best practices, legacy modernization and leadership development.

Rocket Software Appoints New CIO with Nearly 3 Decades of Information Management Experience

Former iRobot CIO Jay Leader has joined the company as SVP and CIO. Most notably, Leader served as CIO at iRobot and Nypro. The former Chairman of the Boston Society for Information Management CIO Roundtable, Leader was named the 2010 Massachusetts CIO of the Year by the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council.  He was also named one of Computerworld’s 2011 Premier 100 Leaders in IT.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.
