Quest Diagnostics Appoints New CIO to Strengthen the Management Team

Lidia L. Fonseca joined Quest Diagnostics, provider of diagnostic information services, as SVP and CIO. Fonseca previously was the CIO at LabCorp and held a number of senior leadership positions in supply chain and IT at Philips Healthcare.

TriZetto CEO and Former Cerner President to Lead Nuance's Healthcare Business 

Speech, imaging and keypad solutions company Nuance Communications named Trace Devanny as president of Nuance's Healthcare business. Devanny joins Nuance from TriZetto, where he served as chairman and CEO. Previously, he held several executive roles at Cerner, most recently as president, over an eleven year period. He was president and COO of ADAC Healthcare Information Systems and held a series of executive positions with IBM and its healthcare business.

Allscripts’ HR Leader Leaves

Deborah D. Snow, SVP, Human Resources of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, leaves. Snow joined Allscripts in 2010. Before that, she worked at Cisco where she led a sales training program for Sales Associates. She worked at Bank of America where she served as SVP Business Transformation eCommerce where she led portfolios of technology change in the Consumer Small Business Corporation and Commercial Banks.

WebMD CTO Joins AOL 

EVP and CTO of WebMD, William Pence, will join AOL as its Global CTO. Before joining WebMD, Pence had served as CTO and SVP at Napster, CTO for Universal Music Group’s online initiatives and for the Pressplay joint venture with Sony, and spent more than a decade at IBM, in research and software division.

Omnicell Goes Through Board Changes

Donald C. Wegmiller, 74, resigned from the Board of automated healthcare solutions company Omnicell. Wegmiller has served as a director of Omnicell since 2004 and as its lead independent director since 2005. Wegmiller has served as a Senior Consultant and Chairman Emeritus for Integrated Healthcare Strategies, and serves as Vice Chairman of Scottsdale Institute and Chairman and CEO of C-Suite Resources. Wegmiller was the Chairman of Clark Consulting, President and CEO of Clark Consulting's predecessor firm, Healthcare Compensation Strategies, and President and CEO of Health One Corporation (now Allina Health).

The Board appointed Bruce D. Smith to fill the vacancy created by Wegmiller's resignation. Smith is SVP of Information Systems and CIO for Advocate Health Care. Prior to his current role, he was VP and CIO for Lutheran General HealthSystem.

The Board appointed James T. Judson, 58, an Omnicell director since 2006, as Lead Independent Director. Judson served as interim CFO of Extreme Networks, and was also Omnicell's Interim CFO and earlier VP of Finance. From 1998 until 2002, he served as VP of Finance and Planning for the Worldwide Operations group of Sun Microsystems.

Explorys Appoints Vanguard Health Exec as COO

Explorys, the leader in big data-driven healthcare transformation, hires Thomas Chickerella as COO. Prior to this, Chickerella led performance management and supply chain at Vanguard Health. Tom brings more than 20 years of experience in Lean Performance Management, and is a long-standing member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Applied Health Analytics Hires Divisional President and Client Services Head

Applied Health Analytics, which provides consulting and software services to hospitals and health systems, hired Craig Smith as President, Coalesce and Gene Lane as VP of client services and integration.

Smith previously held the position of executive partner at the Southwind division of The Advisory Board Company. Smith has more than 16 years of healthcare experience, including providing health systems with consulting services focused on physician alignment, compensation modeling and redesign services, revenue cycle and technology solutions, clinical integration, and has 15 additional years in business development and client account management in financial services.

Previously, Lane was the director of corporate health at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia. Before that, he spent almost two decades in various parts of the Saint Thomas Health Services network, including at its Community Medicine venture and the MissionPoint accountable care organization.

Teletrac CFO Joins Kareo 

Kareo, a provider of cloud-based medical office software and services for small medical practices, hired Tom Patterson as CFO. Patterson joins Kareo after two years as CFO of Teletrac, a SaaS company in the fleet management technology space. Prior to that, he spent over nine years with Quest Software in various roles, including VP of Finance.

McKesson Exec Joins EMR Software Company as COO

Nextech, a provider of fully integrated electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management solutions for specialty physician practices, appoints Rhonda Russell as COO. Prior, she held multiple executive positions at McKesson, managing process improvements and change management initiatives for over 20 years. Prior to that, Russell served in multiple healthcare consultant roles at Datacare, Deloitte, Durham County Hospital and Duke University Medical Center.

CareCloud Hires CSO with Software and Healthcare IT Industries Experience to Help Drive Rapid Growth

CareCloud, cloud-based practice management, electronic health records (EHR), and medical billing software company, hired Lee Horner as its new Chief Sales Officer. He most recently served as SVP of Sales and Marketing for Eliza. Prior, Horner was SVP of Sales, Delivery, and Marketing at Vitera Healthcare Solutions (now part of Greenway Medical Technologies), and held roles as VP of Sales at CA, and VP of North America Sales at Ipsum Networks and DataCore Software.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
