National Oilwell Varco Appoints Energy Industry Leader as New Director 

National Oilwell Varco, the provider of equipment and components used in oil and gas drilling and production operations, appointed Marcela E. Donadio to board. Donadio was Americas Oil & Gas Sector Leader of Ernst & Young, from which she retired in March 2014. Donadio joined Ernst & Young in 1976, serving since 1989 as audit partner for multiple companies in the oil and gas industry. She held various energy industry leadership positions until being named Americas Oil & Gas Sector Leader in 2007. 

Berry Plastics Group Appoints Academician as Board Member

Plastic packaging products company Berry Plastics Group appoints Idalene F. (Idie) Kesner to its Board. Kesner has served as dean for Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, since July 2013. Kesner has taught in more than 100 executive programs and served as a consultant for many national and international firms, working on strategic issues. Her research has focused on the areas of corporate boards of directors, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions. Kesner is a director for Lincoln Industries, Main Street America Group, and Sun Life Financial.

Fleetmatics Appoints Intuit VP to Board 

Fleet tracking service provider Fleetmatics appointed Intuit VP and GM, Allison Mnookin, to its Board. Mnookin is VP and GM of Intuit QuickBase, a product which allows workgroups to build customer solutions that enable their productivity. She's held several positions at Intuit during her tenure, including GM in Intuit's Small Business Division. Prior to joining Intuit in 1998, she held several sales and product marketing positions with Oracle.

Former Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies Exec Joins Photonics Technology Company’s Board

Newport Corporation appoints Cherry Murray, Ph.D. to its Board of Directors. Dr. Murray is Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University, and earlier served as Principal Associate Director for Science and Technology for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Prior to joining Lawrence Livermore in 2004, she spent 27 years with Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies, where she led numerous research programs in areas such as fundamental physics, semiconductors and wireless networking. She also holds the John A. and Elizabeth S. Armstrong Professorship of Engineering and Applied Sciences and is a Professor of Physics at Harvard.

Former Apple Exec Betsy Rafael Joins GoDaddy as First Female Board Member

GoDaddy, the internet domain registrar and web hosting company, has appointed Betsy Rafael to its board. The former Chief Accounting Officer at Apple and Finance VP at Cisco has 30 years of finance and operations experience at numerous companies, including Ernst & Young, Sun, SGI, Escalate and Aspect Communications. She is currently on two other corporate boards, Echelon and Autodesk.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
