Non-Tech Boards: Flextronics and Generac Holdings Add Tech Directors Featured

Flextronics Appoints Board Member with Technology Industry Experience Spanning Hardware, Software, Network and Communications 

Electronics design, fabrication, assembly, and test company Flextronics appointed Michael D. Capellas, 58, prominent industry executive, to the company's board. Capellas currently serves as Principal of Capellas Partners, a strategic advisory firm focusing on technology-driven companies. He was previously CEO and Chairman of VCE Company, a joint venture between EMC and Cisco with investments from VMware and Intel. He was Chairman and CEO of First Data and MCI and Compaq. Post Compaq merger, he served as President of HP. Prior to Compaq and HP, he held a variety of executive positions in multiple industries.

Former First Data VP Joins Generac Holdings’ Board

Generators and other engine powered products company Generac Holdings elected Ralph W. Castner to serve as a director. Castner has served as EVP, CFO, and Principal Accounting Officer of Cabela's Incorporated, and Chairman of World's Foremost Bank, a wholly-owned bank subsidiary of Cabela's. Prior to joining Cabela's, he was employed by First Data from 1990 to 2000, most recently as a VP.

Former PayPal and HP Exec Joins Board of Corporate Card Payment Solutions Provider WEX 

WEX elected Eric Duprat to the company's board. Duprat has more than 25 years of domestic and international experience in the mobile, security and payments industries, and is currently CEO of Verayo, a mobile security services turnaround firm. Before that, he was the General Manager of Mobile Payments at PayPal. Duprat also served as SVP of Global Marketing at Hypercom, an industry leader in payment and networking systems. He spent eight years as a Director in Hewlett Packard's VeriFone Division, both in European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Marketing and in the U.S.

Former Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies Exec Joins Photonics Technology Company’s Board

Newport Corporation appoints Cherry Murray, Ph.D. to its Board of Directors. Dr. Murray is Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University, and earlier served as Principal Associate Director for Science and Technology for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Prior to joining Lawrence Livermore in 2004, she spent 27 years with Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies, where she led numerous research programs in areas such as fundamental physics, semiconductors and wireless networking. She also holds the John A. and Elizabeth S. Armstrong Professorship of Engineering and Applied Sciences and is a Professor of Physics at Harvard.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
