VMware, Salesforce, Akamai: Cloud Operating and Tech Leadership Restructuring Featured

EMC CFO David Goulden Leaves VMware’s Board; Replaced by EMC Director and Former Akamai CEO Paul Sagan

VMware board member David Goulden, 54, resigns from Board. He is CEO of EMC Information Infrastructure and CFO of EMC. Goulden is an 11-year EMC veteran, who has operated as EMC's CFO for seven years and held full responsibility for EMC's Information Infrastructure BUs, Sales and Customer Operations, Services, Marketing and G&A functions since mid-2012. Goulden has led more than 70 acquisitions since 2003.

The Board elected Paul Sagan, 55, as a member of the Board. Sagan has been a partner and XIR at General Catalyst Partners, a venture capital firm, since January 2014. Sagan is also a member of the board of EMC, VMware's parent company. Sagan is the former CEO of Akamai Technologies, and has also served as President, VP and COO. In December 2010, President Barack Obama appointed him as a member of the President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. Sagan is also a director of Akamai and iRobot Corporation.

Salesforce.com Appoints Gen. Colin Powell as Director for More Public Sector Focus; SVP Joins Identity Management Services Start-Up Okta 

Salesforce.com appointed General Colin Powell, 77, to its Board of Directors. General Powell is a retired four star general and served for 35 years in the United States Army. He has served as U.S. National Security Advisor, Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and he was the 65th Secretary of State of the United States. He is the recipient of numerous U.S. military awards as well as two Presidential Medals of Freedom. General Powell is a strategic limited partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Krista Anderson SVP at Salesforce.com leaves. She has joined Okta, the startup that aims to help companies manage their many login credentials for all the cloud services they use.  Most recently, Anderson served as SVP, Customers for Life, Commercial Business Unit at Salesforce.com. Before that she served the company as SVP, Customers for Life, West Verticals; SVP, Global Support; and VP Global Support & Customer Success.

Akamai Appoints Former SuccessFactors COO for Corporate and BD Position

Akamai Technologies appoints Seksom Suriyapa as SVP of Corporate and Business Development. Most recently, Suriyapa served as SVP and COO at SuccessFactors. His experience leading corporate development also includes roles at McAfee where he served as the SVP of Corporate Development, and has established business development teams at leading security vendors such as Veracode. Earlier in his career, he served as a technology investment banker, most recently with Morgan Stanley, as well as in venture capital, as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Mayfield Fund.

Rackspace Hosting Names eBay Exec as New CIO 

Rackspace Hosting, the open cloud company, named Ryan Neading as CIO. Neading will be responsible for the Rackspace billing systems, internal IT systems and tools, technology operations, operational metrics and interfacing with external suppliers and resource providers. Prior to joining Rackspace, Neading's responsibilities were expanded to serve as the co-leader of eBay's development site in Austin. He served as Senior Director Global Billing & Payments at eBay and Director, Pre Sales at CSG Systems.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
