AmEx CMO Leaves Yahoo! Board; APAC Key Execs Also Leave Company
Yahoo’s board member, John Hayes, EVP and CMO, American Express, has decided not to seek re-election to Yahoo's board. Hayes joined the Yahoo board in 2012. Prior to joining American Express in 1995, he was the President of Lowe & Partners, a leading brand and advertising firm. Hayes serves as a director of Keurig Green Mountain and is a member of the Board of Regents of Seton Hall University.
Naoko Okumoto, a VP at Yahoo in charge of monitoring its key Yahoo Japan business, is leaving the company. Okumoto has been with Yahoo since 2000, and has served most recently as the liaison between the Silicon Valley Internet giant and its lucrative Japanese asset and has worked on other strategic partnerships. Okumoto is one of several top execs exiting the Asia-Pacific unit at Yahoo.
Stuart Sayers, CEO of Yahoo Australia, left last month for a top regional job at Amazon, within a year of arriving.
LinkedIn General Counsel to Leave Company
Erika Rottenberg, 51, LinkedIn’s general counsel and employee of nearly six years, plans to leave the professional networking service later this year. LinkedIn plans to begin the search for its new General Counsel. Rottenberg has been VP, General Counsel and Secretary of LinkedIn since mid 2008. Prior to that, she served as a Consultant and before that as SVP, General Counsel and Secretary of SumTotal Systems. She also served as VP of Strategic Development and General Counsel at Creative Labs and was associated with a law firm of Cooley Godward, where she practiced corporate and employment law for technology companies.
Mozilla Co-Founder Appointed and then Resigns as CEO after Ten Days
Brendan Eich has resigned after only ten days in his position as CEO of Mozilla following protests over his support of gay marriage ban in California. He was criticized for a $1,000 contribution he made in 2008 backing Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment that banned same-sex marriages. Public outcry for Eich’s resignation was led by dating website OkCupid, which encouraged users to boycott the Firefox web browser made by Mozilla. Eich was appointed CTO of Mozilla in 2005. After his appointment to CEO, three Mozilla board members resigned: Gary Kovacs, a former Mozilla CEO who runs online security company AVG Technologies; John Lilly, another former Mozilla CEO now a partner at venture-capital firm Greylock Partners; and Ellen Siminoff, CEO of online education startup Shmoop.
Zillow Hires Move Chief Strategy Officer for Developmental Role
Online real estate database Zillow hired Move exec Errol Samuelson, 47, as the Chief Industry Development Officer. Samuelson has served as Chief Strategy Officer of Move since April 2013. Before that he was Chief Revenue Officer of the Company. Prior to that, he served as President of realtor.com. He was hired as SVP of Operations of Top Producer in 2003 and later served as President. He was an independent consultant and co-founder/principal of the consulting firm Pranix before that.
AOL Hires J&J and Former NBC Exec to Newly Created Relationship Management Role
AOL has hired TV and advertising veteran Kim Kadlec as Head of Relationship Management, a newly created position that gives her responsibility for finding new distribution outlets for the Web company’s content. Kadlec’s last job was at Johnson & Johnson’s global marketing group. Prior to that, Kadlec worked at NBC Universal as VP of branded entertainment.
