GE Appoints China CTO for Global Research

GE announced that Xiangli Chen, 49, has been appointed VP, China Technology Center, Global Research. He also serves as VP and CTO of GE China. Xiangli has been with GE for 19 years, holding several technology leadership roles, including serving as general manager of the China Technology Center and general manager of global technology for GE Healthcare in China. 

Former J.C. Penney Tech Chief Returns to PepsiCo 

Kristen Blum, former J.C. Penney EVP & CTO, has rejoined PepsiCo as SVP and CIO of commercial solutions, data and analytics. Before joining J.C. Penney in early 2012, Blum served as SVP and CIO of enterprise solutions at PepsiCo. Before that she was SVP & CIO at Abercrombie & Fitch; Director, Supply Chain Solutions & International Retail at Apple; Senior Manager at KPMG; Director, Merchandise Planning and Systems at Planet Hollywood International; Planning Manager/Planner at Walt Disney World Attractions Merchandise and Victoria's Secret.

American Express Appoints CTO and SVP, Global Infrastructure

American Express appointed Nik Sathe as SVP and CTO, responsible for technology strategy, enterprise architecture and shared platform engineering, combined with shared digital and mobile design and engineering. Sathe most recently led product and engineering efforts for the Google Wallet digital payments platform. Previously, he held leadership roles at PayPal, including co-CTO leading the technology organization to transform its payments platform, as well as interim VP for Product Development. He has prior experience at JP Morgan Chase and several start-up and public technology/software companies.

Brian Saluzzo was named SVP, Global Infrastructure, overseeing end-to-end product management, operational support, and infrastructure risk management, including data center, cloud, and end user technologies. Saluzzo most recently served at Goldman Sachs as Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Technology Infrastructure. He began his career at NCR (then a division of AT&T).

NIKE Appoints Barclays Senior IT Exec as CIO 


NIKE named Anthony Watson as CIO. Watson joins Nike from Barclays Bank, where he was their London-based Managing Director and CIO for Europe and the Middle East, as well as for Global Operations since 2009. He was also the chair of Barclays’ Europe, Middle East, Retail and Business Banking Operating Committee and co-chair of Barclays’ Global Diversity & Inclusion Council.  Prior to Barclays, Watson was SVP and Global Head of Technology Services for Wells Fargo and Director of Wells Fargo Bank International. He also held senior roles at CitiGroup, Unisys, Microsoft and First-e Bancorp, Europe’s first internet bank.

VMware Hires Gartner Research VP as CTO for Americas Region

VMware hires Chris Wolf as CTO for Americas region. Wolf was formerly a Research VP at Gartner, specializing in virtualization technologies and during his time there kept a close eye on VMware and Citrix among others. Before that he spent a few years working with the Burton Group, a datacenter-focused consultancy.

FIS Appoints New CIO From Within Ranks

Fidelity National Information Services, the world’s largest provider of banking and payments technology, named Ido Gileadi as the company’s new CIO. Gileadi comes to FIS from Capco, FIS’ global business and technology consultancy. He joined Capco in 2004, holding numerous leadership roles, including head of Capco’s India and Canada operations, where he drove rapid growth and operational stability. Gileadi served as CEO of Capco North America too. He also served as VP of online channels and head of technology shared services with TD Financial Group.

Symantec Appoints Cisco SVP Sheila Jordan as New CIO

Symantec appoints Sheila Jordan as its new CIO. Jordan is currently SVP of Communications and Collaboration IT at Cisco, where she has worked for nine years. In addition, Jordan had global responsibility for Cisco.com, the company's gateway for information to customers, partners, analysts, the news media, and new recruits. Jordan joined Cisco in 2005 from Walt Disney World, where she was SVP of Destination Disney. She serves as a director for NextSpace, a provider of innovative physical and virtual infrastructure for entrepreneurs, and sits on the CIO Advisory Board for SnapLogic.

Jordan replaces Marty Hodgett, who left Symantec in December after a year and a half on the job. Before Symantec, Hodgett was the president and CEO of RivalWatch, which produced a Web-based competitive intelligence tool used by many of the world’s largest retailers and manufacturers. Prior to joining RivalWatch, he was the CIO and VP of Business Strategy for Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH), and also had a distinguished twenty-two year career at Accenture where he was a senior partner and worked across several industry sectors.

GE Vet Joins Under Armour as CIO

Sports clothing company Under Armour named Chris Gates, a General Electric veteran, as its CIO. Gates held four CIO rules during his 13-year tenure at GE. Most recently, he was CIO of GE Lighting. Prior, he was CIO of GE Energy, measurement and controls systems, and was CIO of shared services for GE Energy. He also served as CIO of Sales Marketing and BD for GE Aviation.

BMC Software Exec Joins IHS as CIO 

Market research firm IHS appoints Mark F. Settle, an IT executive with more than 25 years of experience in managing technical innovation, organizational change and global business unit performance, as SVP and CIO. Settle comes to IHS from BMC Software where he was responsible for delivering new business functionality to internal user groups and leveraging virtualization technologies to improve the performance and utilization of BMC's product development. Settle worked as CIO of Corporate Express, Arrow Electronics and Occidental Petroleum He also served as EVP of systems and processing at Visa.

Marvell Technology Names Its Long-time Storage Technology Exec as CTO

Dr. Zining Wu has been promoted as CTO of storage, communications and consumer semiconductor products company Marvell Technology, replacing Dr. Pantas Sutardja who resigns. Dr. Wu has worked at Marvell Semiconductor since 1999. Since August 2008, he has served as the Company's VP, Data Storage Technology. Prior to that, he worked as an engineer and in various managerial roles in the Company's Storage group.

WellCare Appoints CIO with Experience in Leading Transformation for Firms like FairPoint and Hawaiian Telcom 

WellCare Health Plans named Rose Hauser as SVP and CIO. Hauser most recently spent two years as EVP and CIO for FairPoint Communications, a leading telecom and broadband provider. Previously, she was SVP and CIO for Hawaiian Telcom from 2008 to 2011. She was VP, systems for Freddie Mac, and prior to that was VP, systems for MCI. She was VP - systems, architecture for XO Communications and spent four years with Verizon, first as VP - strategic billing & business solutions and later as group information officer. Hauser also spent several years as a management consultant and software architect.

Kindred Healthcare Hires New CIO from Vanguard Health Systems

Kindred Healthcare appointed C. Scott Blanchette as CIO, replacing Richard E. Chapman, who retired in the end of 2013. Blanchette has more than 20 years of IT experience, including serving as SVP and CIO for Vanguard Health Systems, where he was SVP and CIO since 2011. He also served as CIO for Healthways, a provider of well-being improvement solutions. In addition, he held senior management positions at Stanford University Medical Center and Ernst & Young.

Navigant Appoints its Former MD and Current Tower Group CTO as CIO

Navigant appointed Saeed Fotovat as CIO. Fotovat joins from Tower Group, a property and casualty insurance solutions company, where he most recently served as CTO. Saeed previously worked at Navigant as a Managing Director and therefore, brings solid understanding of client needs and vast institutional knowledge. He has experience controlling IT spending through the development and implementation of effective sourcing strategies and managing and providing strategic direction for large and complex IT project portfolios.

Accretive Health Appoints Sedgwick’s CIO 

Accretive Health has appointed Patrick Funck as SVP and CIO, to accelerate investment in innovative technology solutions that deliver on patient engagement strategies and enable future growth for the organization. Most recently, he served as EVP and CIO at Sedgwick, a large third party administrator he joined in 2007. Prior to Sedgwick, he was CIO for third party claims administrator Broadspire Services. His career also includes service as VP, IT at Zurich Financial Services and VP, IT at CNA Financial Corporation.

Extreme Networks’ New CTO is Former Cirrus Logic and IBM Exec

Extreme Networks, a leader in high performance networking, named Eric Broockman as VP & CTO. Broockman's depth of industry experience includes executive management roles for technology leaders, including Cirrus Logic, where he was the VP/GM of the Crystal Division, and IBM. He recently served as the CEO of Alereon, where he led the strategy and product development of the industry's first gigabit OFDM wireless solution.

Time Inc. Creates CTO Role

Time Inc. named Colin Bodell to the newly-created position of EVP and CTO. Prior to this, Bodell was VP of Amazon's Digital Store Platform where he led the organization responsible for the Kindle book, periodical and magazine store as well as the technology that supports Amazon digital content across web, Kindle and third party devices. He originally joined Amazon in 2006 to run the Website Application Platform (WAP) group, which he headed until 2013. Earlier, he served as CTO and EVP of Engineering at VA Software and also held senior executive posts at Webgain, Intellicorp, and Micro Focus.

Hulu Names Sony Exec as New CTO

Streaming television provider Hulu named Tian Lim as its new CTO. Lim was most recently SVP of Product Engineering at Sony Network Entertainment International, heading up that company's team which provided client and service engineering for the PlayStation Store on the web, PS3 and PS4. He also served at Microsoft, leading development on Xbox Live, the Xbox 360 operating system, and Kinect. Lim replaces Brad Suter, who had been overseeing the company's technology team on an interim basis.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
