Microsoft Makes CIO Jim DuBois Permanent CIO

Microsoft appoints Jim DuBois as Corporate VP and CIO. DuBois, who had served as interim CIO for the past six months, will lead a team of employees overseeing Microsoft IT applications, infrastructure, solution delivery and process excellence. DuBois has been at Microsoft for more than 20 years, during which he has held several key leadership positions. Most recently, he was VP of Microsoft IT Products and Services. He has also served as general manager of IT at the company.

Goldman Sachs Appoints CIO for Investment Banking Division

Goldman Sachs has appointed George Lee to the newly-created CIO post for the investment banking division to drive a new technology agenda. Lee will also take over as chair of the technology, media and telecoms (TMT) banking unit. Lee has worked at Goldman Sachs for almost 20 years, and was co-head of the TMT group since 2008.

T-Mobile Taps Former Avon, Barnes & Noble Exec as New CIO

T-Mobile US has hired Gary King to serve as its CIO. King, who has worked at Avon and Barnes & Noble, has spent the past nine years at retailer Chico’s FAS, where he was also CIO.

VMware Names Senior R&D Exec Technology Chief

VMware appoints Ben Fathi to the role of CTO. Fathi most recently served as SVP, R&D, at VMware and has been with the company since 2012. Fathi brings experience managing large global teams and delivering innovation, with a focus on customer needs and product quality. Prior to joining VMware, Fathi served as a SVP at Cisco leading the operating systems and networking protocol teams. Prior to Cisco, he held multiple roles at Microsoft over 12 years, most recently as corporate VP of development for the Windows core operating system division.

Fathi succeeds Steve Herrod who served as VMware's CTO from 2008 to 2013.

SS&C Technologies Names Insider as CTO

SS&C Technologies Holdings appointed Bob Schwartz as CTO. Schwartz joins SS&C after serving as CTO for SS&C's fund administration business, SS&C GlobeOp. Prior to SS&C GlobeOp, Schwartz served as CTO at Lehman Brothers. Previously, Schwartz worked for Bankers Trust building its derivatives technology environment.

ServiceNow’s CTO Leaves      

Arne Josefsberg, 55, the CTO of cloud IT service desk software vendor ServiceNow since 2011, resigned from the Company. Josefsberg was responsible for leading continued improvements to the ServiceNow Platform and driving expansion of its cloud strategy. Prior to joining ServiceNow, he held various positions with Microsoft for over 25 years, as GM of Windows Azure Infrastructure from 2009 to 2011, and as GM of Infrastructure Services for Global Foundation Services (GFS division) from 2006 to 2009. He has proven experience in architecting and building large-scale cloud deployments.

Former Motorola Exec Joins Hub Group as CIO

Hub Group, a leading provider of comprehensive intermodal, truck brokerage and logistics services, appointed Catherine Kozik as CIO. Kozik brings 30 years of leadership and technical expertise, having most recently served ten years at Motorola as the Corporate VP of Global Solutions and Services Operations leading the Solutions Support Centers and Systems Integration. Prior to that, Kozik was the CIO and SVP of Tellabs' Global Information Systems, and spent 10 years with AT&T serving in positions in both customer support and development for various divisions.

Office Depot Appoints CIO and Interim EVP of E-Commerce

Office Depot appointed Todd Hale as SVP & Global CIO. Previously, Hale served as SVP, North American CIO for the company. He has led a number of transformational initiatives including the deployment of Global Merchandising, Supply Chain and e-Commerce solutions, joining Office Depot in 2004, since then holding positions like Director, IT Supply Chain Systems; Senior Director, Merchandising, Marketing & Inventory Management Systems; and VP, North American CIO and VP of Applications Development. Prior to Office Depot, Hale held various IT leadership positions with the Eckerd, P&G and Walmart.

SVP, E-Commerce Mike Kirschner was named interim EVP of E-Commerce for Office Depot. He has been part of Office Depot’s IT department for more than 14 years and has been involved with online platforms since 1996. He has held positions including: Director, Systems Development; VP, Corporate Systems Development; VP, IT Applications & CAA; VP, IT; and SVP, CIP. His prior experience includes service with Deloitte, Salomon Brothers, and IBM.

Kindred Healthcare’s CIO Retires; Position Vacant Presently

Richard E. Chapman, 63, retired as EVP/Chief Administrative and Information Officer of healthcare services company Kindred Healthcare. Many of Chapman’s duties have been assumed by Steve Cunanan, Kindred’s chief people officer. The company is conducting a national search for a new CIO. The search comes as the company is looking at ways to integrate health information at its various care settings.

Kimball International Appoints Long-Time IT Exec as CIO

Furniture and electronic assemblies company Kimball International appointed Lonnie P. Nicholson, 49, as VP and CIO. Nicholson most recently served as VP, Business Analytics, with oversight of strategic application of data analysis, social media and mobile computing in support of the Company's growth of information management into more "predictive" analysis. Throughout the past five years, he also served the Company as Director of Business Analytics, Director of Organizational Development, and Director of Employee Engagement. Nicholson joined Kimball's corporate IT department in 1986.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
