Walt Disney Taps Square's CEO for Board

The Walt Disney Company has added Jack Dorsey, 37, chairman of Twitter and CEO of Square, as a member of its board of directors. Jack Dorsey is the creator, co-founder, and Chairman of Twitter and co-founder & CEO of Square. 

Dorsey is replacing former Cisco exec Judith Estrin, who is leaving, as she reached the 15-year term limit for the Disney board.

FedEx Elects Former Google Exec as Board Member

FedEx elected Kimberly Jabal, 45, currently CFO at Path, a privately-held social networking company. Prior to joining Path in early 2013, she served as VP of finance at Lytro, an early-stage company focused on building the world's first consumer lightfield camera. She served in various capacities at Google from 2003 to 2011, including as director of engineering finance, director of investor relations and director of online sales finance. Prior to Google, she spent two years at Goldman Sachs in technology investment banking. She has extensive IT experience, having spent eight years from 1990 to 1998 with Accenture designing and building technical infrastructure for major IT systems implementations at global companies.

NCR Chair/CEO Joins United Continental Holdings’ Board

Airlines company United Continental Holdings appoints William (Bill) Nuti to its Board of Directors. Nuti is chairman, CEO and president of NCR Corporation. Since his arrival at NCR in 2005, Nuti has orchestrated a highly successful reinvention of the global technology company. Prior to joining NCR, Nuti served as president and CEO of Symbol Technologies. Nuti joined Symbol from Cisco where he served in the dual role of SVP of the company's Worldwide Service Provider Operations and SVP of U.S. Theater Operations.

Coherent Named Atmel CFO to Board

Suppliers of photonics-based solutions Coherent appointed Steve Skaggs to the Board. Skaggs currently serves as SVP and CFO of Atmel Corporation, a leading designer, developer and supplier of microcontrollers. Skaggs was employed as an independent management consultant, providing strategic advisory and consulting services to clients. He served as CEO of Lattice Semiconductor, a supplier of programmable logic devices and related software, and also served as President and as CFO. Prior to Lattice, he was employed by Bain & Company.

Provider of School Transportation Services Appoints Director with Technology Experience

Provider of school transportation services Student Transportation appointed Wendi Sturgis to board. Sturgis is the EVP of Sales and Services at Yext, a Sutter Hill/IVP backed technology start-up that provides local cloud-computing services for marketers to manage their geodata and local content and connect it everywhere. Prior to Yext, Sturgis was at Yahoo! where she was VP of Account Management for North America. Sturgis joined Yahoo! as a member of the Right Media Leadership team following the Yahoo! acquisition of Right Media. Sturgis' experience also includes serving as an RVP of Oracle Consulting, COO of Gartner Consulting and VP East Coast Operations for Scient. She started her career at Price Waterhouse in its media and entertainment practice.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
