JPMorgan Chase Hires New CIO from BP

JPMorgan Chase has appointed Dana Deasy as the company's new CIO. In this role, Deasy will be responsible for the firm's technology systems and infrastructure across all of its business globally. Deasy will be joining JPMorgan Chase from BP, where he was CIO and Group VP responsible for global IT, procurement and global real estate. Earlier in his career, Deasy served as CIO for General Motors North America, Tyco International and Siemens Corporation Americas. 


Mike Ashworth, who served as interim CIO over the past several months, has been named Deputy CIO for the company and CIO for the firm's leading Consumer & Community Banking business. Ashworth is a recognized leader who has held a number of senior leadership positions at the firm over his 27-year career there, including as head of Global Technology Infrastructure and as CIO for the Investment Bank.

TE Connectivity Sees CIO Replacement

TE Connectivity, previously known as Tyco Electronics, announced that its SVP and CIO Ronald (Ron) F. Vance is retiring, succeeded by Joseph (Joe) F. Eckroth, Jr. Vance has served the Company for over 30 years. Eckroth has been with Hertz Holdings and Hertz since 2007, and currently holds the position of EVP, Global Customer Care and CIO. Prior to joining Hertz Holdings and Hertz, Eckroth served as EVP and Chief Operating Officer of New Century Financial Corporation. Previously, he served as the CIO for Mattel and two of General Electric's business units, GE Medical Systems and GE Industrial Systems.

Groupon Appoints CTO of Platform

Brian McCallister joined Groupon as CTO of Platform. McCallister comes to Groupon from Ning, where he was Principal Architect and Distinguished Engineer. At Ning, he also worked in other key architecture roles while managing technical direction and communication across the organization. McCallister was active with the Apache Software Foundation, serving on the Board of Directors and as PMC Chair for the DB and ActiveMQ projects.


Avnet Appoints United Stationers CIO to Global Information Solutions Team

Technology B2B distributor Avnet appoints David Bent to the Avnet Global Information Solutions team as a SVP of IT. With more than 30 years of IT experience, Bent brings a wealth of international experience to his new role, having most recently served as CIO at United Stationers. Prior to United Stationers, Bent held leadership positions at Visteon Ford and Acterna. His international business acumen was acquired through his experiences during multiple overseas assignments, including four years in the U.K. and 11 years in Germany.

MSCI Names UBS Exec as CIO

Leading provider of investment decision support tools MSCI has hired Chris Corrado as CIO. Prior to joining MSCI, Corrado was a Managing Director and Head of Platform Services at UBS where he oversaw technical infrastructure, global production services, application platform services and IT services. Corrado started his career at IBM in 1981 before joining Morgan Stanley in 1985 where he spent over 11 years in a number of senior technology positions including CIO for Europe and Asia. He subsequently held CTO positions at Deutsche Bank and Merrill Lynch for five years. He also held CIO/CTO positions at Asurion, a technology insurance company, and at eBay and AT&T Wireless.

Brocade Hires CIO from Polycom

Brocade named Ari Bose to the position of CIO. With more than 30 years of experience in the high-tech industry, Bose has held a number of CIO positions at networking and other high-tech companies. Most recently at Polycom, he served as SVP and CIO, where he led the transformation of the global IT organization. He was also responsible for overseeing the company's internal global visual communications network. Prior to that, Bose was SVP and CIO at UTStarcom, and he has held senior IT positions at companies such as 3Com, Bay Networks and Apple.

J.C. Penney Names SVP Business Solutions as CIO

J.C. Penney has named Scott Laverty as EVP and CIO. He was SVP Business Solutions at the company earlier. He also served as Americas Head of Retail at HCL AXON, SVP, CIO at Borders, Global ServicesPartner at IBM Global Services, and Senior Manager at Deloitte.


Weight Watchers International Appoints IBM Exec as CTO

Weight management services company Weight Watchers International appoints Dan Crowe as its CTO. Crowe joins from IBM Global Business Services where he was Global Relationship Partner responsible for a global team of over 1,000 professionals in the areas of strategy and transformation, customer innovation, and application innovation, including mobile, social, location-based and other digital platforms. Prior to joining IBM, Crowe was CIO and Chief Product Officer at, helping to build the company from a start-up into a $1 billion digital media leader. Prior to, Dan held senior partner roles at leading IT consulting firms including Verity Partners, Deloitte Consulting and Accenture.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
