EMC Appoints Symantec EVP as President of Newly-Formed Emerging Technology Products Division

EMC appoints Chirantan "CJ" Desai as President of the company's newly-formed Emerging Technology Products Division. The new division will develop and launch new products and grow new businesses based on emerging technologies, with a special focus on disruptive technologies. Desai most recently served as EVP of Information Management at Symantec. In this role, he was responsible for the company's backup and recovery, storage, cluster file system, high availability and archiving products. Prior to that, he served as SVP of the company's Endpoint and Mobility Group and also led engineering for the Endpoint and Message Security Groups. 

SanDisk Appoints Retired Chairman and CEO of Conexant Systems to Board; Appoints Enterprise Storage Solutions Leader

SanDisk has appointed D. Scott Mercer, 62, to its board of directors. Mercer brings to SanDisk more than 30 years of experience in the technology industry, in both senior executive and board positions. Mercer also currently serves as a Director of Polycom and QLogic. Previously, Mercer was the CEO, Director and Chairman of the Board of Conexant Systems, interim CEO and Director at Adaptec, and served as the CFO of Western Digital Corporation. Mercer also held senior operating and finance roles at Dell, LSI Corporation and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

SanDisk acquired SMART Storage Systems, a developer of enterprise solid state drives based on the SATA and SAS storage protocols, to combine with SanDisk's Enterprise Storage Solutions, which will be led by John Scaramuzzo. John has been the President of SMART Storage Systems and is a veteran of the storage industry with more than 25 years of experience at Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum and Digital Equipment Corporation. John assumes the role of SVP, enterprise storage solutions.

Polycom’s SVP of Global Channels Departs

Telepresence and voice communication solutions firm Polycom's SVP of Global Channels, Ron Myers, has decided to pursue an outside opportunity. He has served as VP, Channels at Polycom earlier. Before that, he was VP Client Care at Service Source, VP and General Manager Business Operations, VP Sales and Marketing Canada at TANDBERG, and VP GM Financial Services at Moore Canada.

Integrated Device Technology's CFO Departs; New CFO Appointed

Semiconductor solutions and memory products company Integrated Device Technology’s EVP and CFO Richard D. Crowley will be resigning his position with IDT to pursue another executive opportunity. The Company has appointed Brian C. White as CFO. White has more than 25 years of accounting and financial experience, including six years as VP of finance and treasurer at IDT. He also served as interim CFO at the Company in 2008. Prior to IDT, White served as director of business operations at NVIDIA and held a variety of senior level finance positions at IBM and Hitachi GST.

Emulex’s CFO to Leave

Networking solutions company Emulex’s EVP, CFO and Secretary Michael J. Rockenbach, 51, would cease to serve in such capacities. Rockenbach has served as CFO since 1997. From 1991 to 1996, he served in senior finance and accounting positions with Emulex. Before that, he served in various manufacturing finance and financial planning positions at Western Digital. He served as Manager of financial planning for the microcomputer products division.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
