Microsoft CIO and VP of Corp Dev Exit; Company Appoints CTO for Server & Tools

Tony Scott, who as CIO managed Microsoft's internal IT operations for the past five years, is leaving the company to focus on 'personal projects'. Jim Dubois, VP of IT product and services management, is serving as interim CIO, while the company searches for his replacement within and outside of the company.

Scott was hired in 2008, taking over from Stuart Scott. At Microsoft, Tony Scott oversaw Microsoft’s migration from Siebel customer management software owned by Oracle and SAP’s ERP software to Microsoft’s own Dynamics software. He also tested the company’s Office 365 collaboration software and Windows Azure cloud software before the company commercialized them. Before Microsoft, Tony Scott led a major IT infrastructure upgrade at Walt Disney and served as CTO at General Motors and VP of Operations at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Andy Lees, Microsoft’s VP of corporate strategy and development, will be stepping down from his position. Lees plans to go on sabbatical to return to his family in the United Kingdom, and will announce his new position at Microsoft later in the summer. Previous to his corporate development role, Lees led the Windows Phone team, and has held positions in worldwide sales and marketing, and the server and tools divisions. Managing director Marc Brown will lead corporate development.

Microsoft appointed a CTO for its Server & Tools business. Dave Campbell, a Microsoft Technical Fellow, was named to the position. Replacing Campbell in his SQL-focused developmental role is a former SAP EVP T.K. Rengarajan, who is now a Corporate VP at Microsoft. Rengarajan's most recent title at SAP was EVP of Intellectual Renewal. But, like Campbell, Rengarajan's roots go back to Digital Equipment Corp. and its Rdb database team.

SuccessFactors Appoints VP of Product Management

SuccessFactors, a SAP AG company and a provider of cloud-based business execution software, has appointed Thomas Otter as VP of Product Management. A Gartner analyst and HR expert with 21 years of experience in the IT industry, Otter will help SuccessFactors evolve a new generation of HCM software and best practices. Otter has spent the past five years at Gartner, most recently as research VP covering HCM trends and technologies. Otter was Gartner's lead analyst on SAP from 2009 to 2011.

EMC Appoints New Levant, Emerging Africa MD

EMC named its 13-year veteran Nazim Fraijat as managing director for EMC's Levant (Jordan, Palestinian Authority, Lebanon and Iraq) and Emerging Africa region. In his new role, Fraijat will focus on strategy and business development to extend and further accelerate EMC's growth in the region by delivering and supporting the full range of EMC products, services and solutions in established and new markets, and enhancing partner and channel relationships. Prior to his new role, Fraijat held a number of leadership positions at EMC, including regional director of EMC's Backup and Recovery Systems division in Turkey, Emerging Africa and the Middle East, general manager of EMC's UAE and South Gulf District and sales manager for EMC's Strategic Accounts in Oman and the UAE. Prior to joining EMC, Fraijat worked for AT&T and NCR.

HP Appoints Channel Veteran to Step up Full Enterprise Portfolio Push

HP also appointed a company veteran for improving the company's pricing, promotions and programs aimed at getting more partners to sell the full HP product portfolio. Mike Parrottino, who was previously VP and general manager of PPS Americas Channel Marketing/SMB, has been named to a new post - VP of enterprise group channels volume sales - with the first order of business improving HP's ability to drive pricing, promotions and processes to increase "transactional" sales of the company's enterprise products. Prior, Parrottino served as VP of Direct Response Channel and Agent Sales for HP. He also has held the role VP, West Region of the North America Solution Partners Organization. Before joining HP as part of the Compaq merger, Parrottino served as director of Worldwide Solution Partner Global Alliances at Compaq.

VMware Appoints SVP, Global Channels and Alliances

Dave O'Callaghan has joined VMware as SVP of global channels and alliances. In this role, he will be responsible for the growth of the company's global partner organisation and help deliver solutions pertaining to software-defined data centers, hybrid cloud and the mobile workspace. Prior to joining, VMware, O'Callaghan worked for 12 years with Cisco, most recently as VP, Worldwide Commercial Sales.  He has also held several sales-centric roles at Hitachi Data Systems and Memorex Telex.

Infosys Re-Appoints Former Chair/CEO as Board Chair

India-based software services company Infosys appointed N. R. Narayana Murthy, 66, as Executive Chairman of the Board and Additional Director. Murthy served as Company's CEO for 20 years between 1981 and 2002, and as the Executive Chairperson of Company's Board from 2002 to 2006. Murthy also serves as a director on the boards of Infosys China, Infosys Consulting, HSBC Holdings. Murthy is a member of the advisory boards and councils of several educational and philanthropic institutions, including Cornell University; Ford Foundation; INSEAD; Indian Institute of Management Technology, Bangalore; Indian School of Business, Hyderabad; Singapore Management University; United Nations Foundation; and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and a foreign member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. Murthy has been conferred with the title of CBE by the British government.

K. V. Kamath would step down from his position as Chairman of the Board and take up the position of Lead Independent Director.

Salesforce Taps Former Oracle Exec, an Open Source Database Guru and a VMWare Veteran in High-Profile Moves has appointed Keith Block, 50, as President and Vice Chairman, leading the company's global sales, customer support and consulting services organizations. In addition, Block has been appointed to's Board of Directors. In his most recent role as Oracle's EVP of North America Sales & Consulting, Block led an 11,000-person team and built a multi-billion dollar sales business unit that achieved record revenue growth and margin expansion over the span of 10 years. He quit the company in 2012. Before getting promoted to his most recent role, Block was EVP of Oracle’s North America Consulting Group, SVP of North America Commercial Consulting, Group VP of East Consulting, and VP of Americas CPG Consulting, joining the company in 1986. He began his career at Booz Allen Hamilton as a Senior Consultant to Air Force executives. Block serves on the Board of Trustees at the Concord Museum, the Advisory Board at Carnegie-Mellon University Heinz Graduate School, and the President's Advisory Council for Carnegie-Mellon University.

Tom Lane, a chief contributor to the PostgreSQL project, the open source relational database, is joining Salesforce for an unspecified role. The former Red Hat employee is expected boost the cloud business application provider's efforts to transition its core technologies to open source alternatives. For 15 years, Tom has contributed code to Postgres, an advanced open source relational database that started development around the same time as MySQL but has lagged behind it in adoption amongst web developers. For the past few years, Postgres development has accelerated. Built with developer add-ons in mind, things like PLV8 and an extensible replication system have held the interest of companies like NTT and captured the imagination of Heroku. has chosen Tod Nielsen, the onetime Co-President, Application Platform and COO of VMWare, to run its Heroku platform-as-a-service offering for software developers. His title will be CEO of Heroku. He will replace Byron Sebastian, who left Heroku last year. Nielsen left VMWare last year for a role at EMC’s big data venture, known as the Pivotal Initiative. Prior to joining VMware, he served as President and CEO of Borland Software Corporation, SVP, Marketing and Global Sales Support for Oracle, served in various positions at BEA Systems including Chief Marketing Officer and EVP, Engineering. He also spent 12 years with Microsoft in various roles, including GM of Database and Developer Tools, VP of Developer Tools, and at the time of his departure, VP of Microsoft's platform group.

FIS Appoints COO to Board

Fidelity National Information Services named 25-year FIS veteran and current President and COO Gary A. Norcross, 46, to its board. Norcross, a highly respected industry executive, assumed the role of President and COO in 2012, and is responsible for the steering and execution of the company's global business strategy. Prior to his current role, Norcross held several leadership positions within the company and was instrumental in the 2009 acquisition and integration of Metavante Technologies. He was also instrumental in the acquisition of leading organizations such as Certegy and eFunds and more than 15 other companies, helping to grow FIS to more than 35,000 employees with over $5.8 billion in annual revenue. Norcross is active in the local North Florida community and serves on the Dean's Executive Advisory Board for the Sam M. Walton School of Business at the University of Arkansas. He is also on the board of the Knowledge is Power Program's (KIPP) Impact School in Jacksonville, Fla.

McAfee Appoints SMB Biz Leader from Apple Online Store

McAfee appointed Bill Rielly as SVP for small and medium-sized business (SMB). Rielly joins McAfee from Apple where he led the worldwide SMB segment for the Apple Online Store. He also held executive positions in SMB at Microsoft and in e-commerce at JP Morgan Chase. Earlier in his career, he worked at a small company himself, running a business unit at software developer PRT Group.

SAS Appoints VP of Sales in Canada

SAS Institute, a developer of analytics software, has appointed Ron Reed to the position of VP of sales for SAS Canada. Reed has more than 25 years of relevant industry, software sales and management experience. In this role, he is responsible for leading the national sales team in addressing client business issues and aligning them with SAS Business Analytics solutions. Before joining SAS, Ron was the Canadian country manager with Informatica where he was responsible for sales and all facets of the Canadian operation. Prior to this, he held senior management roles at Reynolds & Reynolds Company, Progress Software and J.D. Edwards.

Pitney Bowes Names Chief Innovation Officer

Pitney Bowes announced that Roger Pilc is joining the company as EVP and Chief Innovation Officer. He will lead worldwide engineering, strategic technology and innovation, enterprise growth initiatives and technology alliances. Pilc joins Pitney Bowes from CA Technologies, the leading enterprise management software provider. Since 2007, he held various leadership roles as a SVP and General Manager, including leading CA Technologies largest distributed systems management business unit, as well as running another business unit driving CA Technologies growth and market share leadership in cloud systems management. He also led CA Technologies Strategic Alliances and Business Development team, and their Service Provider and Industry Vertical solutions initiatives. Pilc began his career at management consulting firms Booz Allen Hamilton and McKinsey & Company. In 2001, he became COO at enterprise management software company SMARTS, bought by EMC for over $260 million. In addition, he was CEO of Whale Communications, a security software vendor which he successfully led and sold to Microsoft.

ExactTarget Board Member with PE Background Leaves

Michael Brown, 39, will not stand for re-election to the board of ExactTarget, the digital marketing software firm. Brown has been a General Partner of Battery Ventures, a private equity and venture capital firm focused on technology companies, which he initially joined in 1998. He currently serves on the boards of several privately-held companies, including Digby Technology, Bluestem Brands and TradeKing Group. Brown was previously a member of the High Technology Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co., from 1996 to 1998 and worked as a Financial Analyst within Goldman’s Financial Institutions Group between 1994 and 1996.

Progress Software Appoints New CTO and Chief Product Officer

Business application infrastructure software firm Progress Software named Karen Tegan Padir as CTO. Padir, a Progress SVP and 20-year software industry veteran will be responsible for defining and delivering the company's technology strategy, innovation and vision. Padir joined Progress Software in 2012 as SVP and business line executive for application development, the company's largest product line. Under her leadership, the Progress OpenEdge development platform was revitalized and major new versions incorporating advanced mobile and business rules capabilities introduced. She also played a key role in the company's recent acquisition of Rollbase, whose technology is a key component of the newly announced Progress Pacific platform-as-a-service.

Padir succeeds John Bates, who will be leaving the company as part of the recently announced divestiture of the Progress Apama solution to an enterprise management software giant Software AG. Dr. John Bates, who co-founded Apama, is expected to leave Progress to join Software AG. A recognized visionary and entrepreneur in the software industry, Bates has a strong track record of innovation in areas such as event-driven architectures, smart environments and real-time computing. In particular, Bates is recognized as one of the foremost driving forces behind the emergence of Complex Event Processing (CEP) and has pioneered the commercial use of event processing in business solutions. With an extensive background in the Capital Markets industry, Bates has pioneered new techniques in algorithmic and high frequency trading, real-time risk and market surveillance.

John Goodson was named Chief Product Officer. Goodson joined Progress Software in 2003 and has previously served as the GM of both the DataDirect and Enterprise Business Systems divisions within Progress. Under his leadership, Progress DataDirect has grown into a leading provider of connectivity technologies. In his role as SVP of products, he was instrumental in the development of the new Pacific platform and responsible for an increased focus on data connectivity technologies offered as-a-service through Progress DataDirect.

Demandware Appoints Marketing Leader as EMEA Head

eCommerce software company Demandware named Jamus Driscoll as SVP and General Manager of EMEA. Driscoll has served as the company's SVP of global marketing since 2006. In his previous role, Driscoll helped establish Demandware as the industry-leading cloud commerce platform for enterprise scale retailers and brands. He is leveraging his experience to strengthen Demandware's brand and operations across Europe. Driscoll joined Demandware from Oracle, where, as Director of Marketing, he was a member of Oracle Retail's marketing steering committee and leader of the marketing teams for Solutions Marketing and Customer Marketing. Prior to Oracle, Driscoll was at ProfitLogic, where he was the Director of Solutions Marketing, and served as Industry Marketing Manager at Ascential Software.

Data Security Solutions Company Imperva Goes Through Board Changes

Imperva appointed Charles Giancarlo, 55, to its board of directors. Giancarlo is a managing director of Silver Lake, and also chairman of the board of Avaya, co-owned by Silver Lake. He is a seasoned executive with more than 30 years of experience in the communications industry. Before joining Silver Lake in 2007, he spent 14 years with Cisco, holding senior roles like EVP and chief development officer and president of Cisco-Linksys. He joined Cisco when the company acquired Kalpana, a pioneer in Ethernet switching. He was an early developer of both asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and switched Ethernet technologies, and he holds multiple patents in ATM and voice technologies. He founded four communications equipment companies and sold two of them to larger companies.

Asheem Chandna, 48, is leaving the Imperva board. Chandna is a Partner at Greylock Partners, where he is focused on helping entrepreneurs create and build the next generation of enterprise companies. His current company boards include AppDynamics, Aquantia, Delphix, Imperva, Palo Alto Networks, and Skyhigh Networks. He joined Greylock Partners in 2003 from Check Point Software, where he was VP of business development and product management. Prior to Check Point, Asheem was VP of marketing with CoroNet Systems, and held strategic marketing and product line positions with SynOptics/Bay Networks, and AT&T Bell Laboratories. He is a charter member of TiE Silicon Valley, on the panel of judges for the Wall Street Journal Global Technology Innovation Awards, on the advisory board for the RSA Conference, and a mentor at Stanford's StartX student accelerator.

LogMeIn Tech Chief Resigns

After 10 years of service at the remote access and remote desktop software company LogMeIn, as CTO, Marton B. Anka, resigned from his position. Anka’s responsibilities will be transitioned to a select group of the Company’s technology leaders. Anka will continue to serve in an advisory role until early 2014. Anka was the founder and Managing Director of 3am Labs BT, the developer of RemotelyAnywhere.

Rally Software Strengthens Team with the Addition of Former Savvis and Amazon Web Services Sales Leader

Rally, a leading global provider of cloud-based solutions for managing Agile software development, named Dan Patton its EVP of Global Sales. In this role, Dan will lead Rally's global sales organization, including expansion into EMEA and APAC. Most recently, he served as VP and General Manager of Cloud Services at Savvis. Prior to Savvis, Dan was Americas Sales Leader for Amazon Web Services, and a senior sales leader at IBM and Rational Software. He also held a variety of sales, BD and engineering positions at Network Commerce and Boeing. Dan replaces Don Hazell, who has led Rally's sales team for the last 34 quarters. Don will shift to a new position as Rally's EVP of Strategic Accounts.

Virtusa Names New President and Chief Delivery Officer/India Ops Head

Agile software development company Virtusa has made the following promotions: Raj Rajgopal, 52, the Company's EVP, Business Development and Client Services was promoted to President of the Company; and Samir Dhir, 42, the Company's SVP, Global Delivery Head and Head of India Operations was appointed EVP, Chief Delivery Officer and Head of India Operations.

Raj Rajgopal joined the Company in 2005 as General Manager of Communications, Content, and Technology, or CCT, Business Unit. Prior to joining the Company, he served as President, Rajgopal Management Consulting, and held several positions with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, including serving as VP, Management Consulting.

Samir Dhir has served as the Company's SVP, global delivery head and head of India operations since 2010 and as an executive officer since 2011. He also serves as a board member of Virtusa Consulting Services Private Limited, one of our Indian subsidiaries. Prior to joining, Dhir worked for Wipro Technologies where he managed a delivery organization with over 5,000 IT professionals focused on the technology, media and transportation industries. Dhir also led Wipro's SAP Practice and managed services business. Prior to his time at Wipro, Dhir held leadership positions with Avaya and Lucent Technologies in the United Kingdom.

First Data Exec Joins as CTO of Business Solutions & Software Company

Planet Group, the provider of software and consulting services that turn technology into valuable business solutions for the electronic payments industry, appointed payment industry veteran Sherry Magwire as CTO. During Magwire's 15-year tenure with First Data, she held a number of senior-level positions, including SVP of IT. Magwire was also VP of IT for NMC, IT site leader for Cabela's, plus held programmer and analyst positions with Commercial Federal Bank and American Charter Savings and Loan early in her career.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
