Microsoft Names New CFO From Within Ranks; Appoints APAC Regional Leader

Microsoft has named Amy Hood, 41 as its first woman CFO, replacing Peter Klein, 49, who will be leaving the company. Hood joined Microsoft in 2002 and currently serves as CFO of Microsoft's Business Division (MBD), overseeing all financial strategy, management and reporting. During her time as CFO of MBD, Hood was also deeply involved in the strategy development and overall execution of the company's successful acquisitions of Skype and Yammer. Previously, Hood served as chief of staff in the Server and Tools group, then ran the strategy and business development team in MBD before becoming CFO of the division in 2010. Before joining Microsoft as a part of the investor relations group, she worked at Goldman Sachs in various roles including investment banking and capital markets groups.

Microsoft has appointed Cesar Cernuda as its new area VP for the Asia Pacific region. A Microsoft veteran of some 16 years, Cernuda was most recently VP of Sales, Marketing and Services for Microsoft’s Latin American operations. Prior to that role, he served in a number of senior-level Microsoft roles, including worldwide VP of Microsoft Business Solutions (MBS) sales and field operations, VP of MBS International and director of the Small & Medium Business Solutions and Partner Group for Microsoft Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) organization. Cernuda started his career in the banking industry, working on the launch of Banco 21 (currently known as Banco Gallego), before joining Software AG, where he successfully developed a new business channel for the company’s products and services sales, and ran the financial sector division.

Google Loses Its Wallet VP; Company Hires Head of Design

Osama Bedier, who joined Google in 2011 and headed the Google Wallet payment business as VP of Wallet & Payments, is leaving the company. Previously, he served as VP, Product Development at PayPal, Director-Technology at DG Systems/Starguide Satellite Systems, Sr. Manager, B2B eCommerce at Gateway, and Web Architect/Manager at AT&T Wireless.

Google has appointed former Ogilvy & Mather vice-chairman and executive creative director Patrick Collister as its head of design. Collister is replacing Irene Au, who is leaving. In his new role, Collister will lead Google’s creative team with the aim of helping ad agencies make the best use of Google products, such as YouTube. Ahead of joining Google, Collister is winding up his business, Creative Matters, which offers a mixture of consultancy and training services. Collister originally set up the business in 2000 after leaving Ogilvy & Mather, where he was executive creative director and vice-chairman. He served as a creative director at EHS Brann (now Havas EHS), but left in 2003 after two years.

HTC’s Chief Product Officer and Communications Chief Leave

Taiwanese phone maker HTC has been hit with a wave of staff departures. Chief among the exits is Chief Product Officer Kouji Kodera. Kodera was responsible for HTC's overall product strategy. As a seasoned veteran of the mobile industry, he has a strong track record of building device portfolio strategies. Kodera, a former head of products for Sony Ericsson, joined HTC in 2010. Before Sony Ericsson he served in various marketing roles fir Mitsubishi, most recently as Marketing Director for Mitsubishi Electric Telecom Europe.

VP, Global Communications and Influencer Marketing, Jason Gordon, has also left. Since joining HTC in 2006, Jason has played a key leadership role in launching the HTC brand from an unknown company in 2007 to a 2011 Interbrand top 100 global brand ranking of 98. As an experienced communication executive, Jason has played a key role in many of the mobile industry’s most important launches and announcements, including: the first Handspring Treo (2001), Microsoft and HTC’s first smartphones (2002), Google’s Android operating system (2007), the first Android smartphone, the T-Mobile G1 (2008), and the first smartphone with Facebook Home, the HTC First (2013). Before HTC, he was PR Manager at Motorola, Product PR Manager at Microsoft, Account Director at Text 100, and Marketing exec at Brigadoon.

Intel Names Current COO as CEO and Software and Services Head as President

Intel’s COO Brian Krzanich, 52, a company veteran of nearly 30 years, will assume the CEO role replacing Paul Otellini, who is retiring. Krzanich has progressed through a series of technical and leadership roles at Intel, most recently serving as the COO since January 2012. Prior to becoming COO, Krzanich held senior leadership positions within Intel's manufacturing organization. He was responsible for Fab/Sort Manufacturing from 2007-2011 and Assembly and Test from 2003 to 2007. From 2001 to 2003, he was responsible for the implementation of the 0.13-micron logic process technology across Intel's global factory network. From 1997 to 2001, Krzanich served as the Fab 17 plant manager, where he oversaw the integration of Digital Equipment Corporation's semiconductor manufacturing operations into Intel's manufacturing network. Prior to this role, Krzanich held plant and manufacturing manager roles at multiple Intel factories. Krzanich began his career at Intel in 1982 in New Mexico as a process engineer.

Renée James, 48, has also been elected president of the company. During her 25-year career at Intel, James has spearheaded the company's strategic expansion into providing proprietary and open source software and services for applications in security, cloud-based computing, and importantly, smartphones. In her most recent role as EVP and general manager of the Software and Services Group, she was responsible for Intel's global software and services strategy, revenue, profit, and product R&D. In this role, James led Intel's strategic relationships with the world's leading device and enterprise operating systems companies. Previously, she was the director and COO of Intel Online Services, Intel's datacenter services business. James was also part of the pioneering team working with independent software vendors to port applications to Intel Architecture and served as chief of staff for former Intel CEO Andy Grove. James began her career with Intel through the company's acquisition of Bell Technologies.

Qualcomm Appoints Former HP and Apple Exec as Director

Qualcomm elected Jonathan Rubinstein, 56, to its Board of Directors. Rubinstein brings more than 30 years of experience in the mobile, computing and consumer electronics industries to the position, and he last served as SVP of Product Innovation for Hewlett-Packard until 2012. Rubinstein's longstanding career has spanned a number of roles. In his most recent positions at HP, he led product innovation for HP's Personal Systems and, prior to that, presided over the launch of the HP's Touchpad tablet as SVP and general manager of Palm Global Business Unit.

Previously, Rubinstein joined Palm as executive chairman in 2007, where he focused on product development; R&D and engineering to drive Palm's return to innovation with its webOS software and smartphone devices. He led Palm as chairman and CEO from 2009 until it was acquired by HP in 2010. Prior to his role at Palm, Rubinstein earned the nickname, "The Podfather," while running Apple's iPod division, where he was instrumental in creating the iPod and its robust ecosystem. He also served as SVP of Hardware Engineering, where he was responsible for overhauling the Apple's engineering teams, product roadmaps, manufacturing processes and leading the rapid rollout of the iMac. Rubinstein previously held a number of engineering and leadership positions at different computing companies, such as Stardent Computer and NeXT Computer and founded his own company, Firepower Systems. He is on the Amazon.com board.

SAP Southeast Asia President and MD Appointed

SAP appointed Francois Lancon to the position of President and Managing Director for SAP Southeast Asia. Lancon, who was previously the President of Asia Pacific for Avaya, will now be leading SAP's business strategy development and operations in Southeast Asia-including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam-and Pakistan. Lancon's close to three decades in the IT business before coming to SAP were also notably spent with key industry leaders, including Nortel Networks Corporation, Convergys and IBM.

SuccessFactors CEO Leaving SAP in Cloud Business Shake-Up

SAP announced a pretty broad management shake-up across its cloud-oriented software units. Lars Dalgaard, 43, the CEO of the cloud-based human resources software company SuccessFactors, is leaving the company to become an investor. SAP acquired SuccessFactors in late 2011. Dalgaard joined SAP to run a newly formed Cloud Business Unit when SAP acquired SuccessFactors, the company he founded in 2001. Prior to SuccessFactors, Dalgaard spent five years with Unilever and three years at Novartis respectively, working in five different countries (Germany, Switzerland, USA, Holland, and Denmark) with roles in Global Mergers – Acquisitions, Corporate Finance and Controlling, and Sales. He also ran a global business unit and served as a local company CEO, consolidating five acquisitions into one company.

eBay Appoints VP of Global Communications

eBay has appointed Joe Carberry, partner at Brunswick Group, to serve as VP of global communications for eBay Marketplaces. Carberry, who worked at Brunswick since 2010, will lead all communications for the company's Marketplaces business unit. The Marketplaces division includes eBay, eBay classifieds, and StubHub. Prior to joining Brunswick, Carberry served as president of the western region for MSLGroup. He also worked at Fleishman-Hillard as an account supervisor and as press secretary for San Diego Mayor Susan Golding.

The company has created a new position focusing on data and personalization, and has hired Zoher Karu, a former marketing analytics VP from Sears to fill it. Karu's new role is VP of customer optimization and data, and will focus on using customer data across eBay's properties to make a more "personal and relevant experience."

Facebook Witnesses Chief Accounting Officer Changes; General Counsel Leaves

David M. Spillane, the Chief Accounting Officer of Facebook has communicated his intention to leave the company, and Jas Athwal was appointed to the role of Chief Accounting Officer. Athwal has served as Facebook’s revenue controller since he joined the company in 2008. He is former Director of Revenue of Yahoo!, Manager, Revenue and Reporting of Extricity, and Assurance Supervisor of Grant Thornton.

Spillane joined Facebook in 2009, before which he served as Audit Senior Manager and Audit Manager at Ernst & Young, Dublin.

Facebook’s General Counsel Ted Ullyot, 45, is leaving. Ullyot has been Facebook’s VP, general counsel and secretary since 2008. Previously, he was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis and served as chief of staff at the U.S. Justice Department and as a deputy assistant to President George W. Bush. The search for his replacement will include internal and external candidates.

EMC Appoints South East Asia President

EMC has appointed 27-year IT industry veteran Thomas Zack as the president of sales and customer operations for EMC's South East Asia (SEA) region. The appointment represents a milestone for EMC's next phase of business growth in SEA. Prior to joining EMC, Zack was the Managing Director for SAP in Thailand. Prior to SAP, Zack was at Red Hat, where he managed its sales business across Asia Pacific & Japan as VP. Prior to Red Hat, Zack spent 18 years at Hitachi Data Systems in a variety of senior leadership and management roles, including VP and General Manager for the Asia South region. Zack started his career at Northrop Aircraft.

Deutsche Telekom Names Future CFO

Deutsche Telekom has appointed Thomas Dannenfeldt as the future CFO. He will succeed Timoethus Hoettges in January 2014, when Hoettges takes over from Rene Obermann as Chairman of the Management Board.

Thomas Dannenfeldt has been Managing Director of Finance and Controlling at the Group's subsidiary in charge of German operations since 2010. Before that, he was responsible for the Finance and Controlling department at T-Mobile Deutschland. As a member of the T-Home Board of Management, he was responsible for the Finance department. Before being appointed to the T-Home Board of Management as the member responsible for the Market and Quality Management in 2007, he was in charge of sales management, supply chain management and sales development at T-Mobile International for the national companies in Europe. He also headed development and performance of the T-Mobile shops in Europe.

T-Mobile USA Creates Senior B2B Role

T-Mobile USA appointed Drew Kelton to the newly created role of EVP of B2B. Most recently, he was president of Bharti Airtel Business in India. Through his leadership and creativity, he successfully revamped the company's strategy, product and service portfolio and returned Airtel Business to growth in an extraordinarily competitive market. Prior to Airtel Business, Kelton served as managing director for Telstra International, where he established the company as a thriving player in the Asia Pacific region. Frank Sickinger, SVP of B2B, will continue in his role, reporting to Kelton.

HP Names New Treasurer; Appoints Channel Veteran to Step up Full Enterprise Portfolio Push

Hewlett-Packard elected Jim Murrin to serve as treasurer in addition to his current role as SVP of Corporate Development and Corporate Financial Analytics. Murrin will succeed John McMullen, SVP and treasurer, HP, who is retiring after an impressive 32-year career with the company. In early 2013, Murrin rejoined the Finance organization in his current role. Before returning to Finance, he was leading the Select Accounts Group within HP Enterprise Services; he previously served as HP's corporate controller.

Hewlett-Packard has appointed a 24-year HP veteran to lead the charge on improving the company's pricing, promotions and programs aimed at getting more partners to sell the full HP product portfolio. Mike Parrottino, who was previously VP and general manager of PPS Americas Channel Marketing/SMB, has been named to a new post - VP of enterprise group channels volume sales - with the first order of business improving HP's ability to drive pricing, promotions and processes to increase "transactional" sales of the company's enterprise products. Prior, Parrottino served as VP of Direct Response Channel and Agent Sales for HP. He also has held the role VP, West Region of the North America Solution Partners Organization, where he led efforts to re-engineer channel partnerships to optimize mutual profitability for HP and the channel. Before joining HP as part of the Compaq merger, Parrottino served as director of Worldwide Solution Partner Global Alliances at Compaq.

Dell and Facebook’s Board Member Steps Down

Dell and Facebook’s board member James W. Breyer, 51, is stepping down from both the boards. Breyer, a member of Dell's board since April 2009 and Facebook’s board since 2005, is a partner at Accel, a venture capital firm, since 1987. He currently sits on the board of Wal-mart, News Corp and Model N. He previously served as a director of Brightcove, Marvel Entertainment, Prosper Marketplace, and RealNetworks. Breyer is also the founder and has been the CEO of Breyer Capital, an investment firm, since 2006. He is a co-founder and has been co-lead on the strategic investment committee since inception of the IDG-Accel China Funds. Breyer worked as a Management Consultant at McKinsey and served at Hearme, Hewlett-Packard and Apple.

Adobe Creates Chief Security Officer Role

Adobe has created a new position of chief security officer and appointed Brad Arkin to the position. Formerly Adobe's senior director of Standards, Open Source, and Accessibility and before that for product security and privacy, Arkin will continue to lead the company's secure software engineering team (ASSET) and its product security incident response team (PSIRT), which responds to vulnerabilities and exploits. Before Adobe, he was VP, Product Management of StepNexus, Senior Manager of Symantec and Technical Director of @stake.

Intuit Makes Several Management Changes, Business Realignment

Intuit has made an organizational realignment designed to propel the company into its next phase of long-term growth. The new structure includes six go-to-market business units.

Dan Wernikoff has been named SVP and general manager of Small Business Financial Solutions, a new global division that includes financial management solutions, such as QuickBooks, Intuit Payments Solutions and the Intuit Partner Platform. With this assignment, Wernikoff adds global responsibilities to the small business leadership role he has held for the last three years. Prior to his current role, Wernikoff held a variety of management roles across Intuit’s Small Business Group.

Dan Maurer is the new SVP and general manager of Small Business Management Solutions, a new global division focused on a portfolio of adjacent small business services, including Employee Management Solutions and Demandforce. Maurer, who will also oversee Intuit’s Quickbase business, spent the last five years as SVP and general manager of Intuit’s Consumer Group. Prior to that, Maurer led the marketing efforts for the TurboTax business and served as Intuit’s chief marketing officer.

Sasan Goodarzi is SVP and general manager of Intuit’s Consumer Tax division, which offers a suite of products and services under the TurboTax brand in the U.S. and Canada. Goodarzi has held multiple general management positions at Intuit, including SVP and general manager for both Intuit’s Financial Services division and Intuit’s ProTax division. Most recently, Goodarzi served as Intuit’s chief information officer as the company successfully navigated to the cloud.

Barry Saik has been named as VP and general manager of the Consumer Ecosystem, a new division focused on solving important consumer problems with solutions such as Quicken. Saik has led Quicken for the last year. He previously held a variety of leadership roles in the TurboTax business, and most recently served as general manager of Intuit Websites, where he led the divestiture of that business in 2012.

Jill Ward continues as SVP and general manager of the Accounting Professionals Division and Cece Morken remains SVP and general manager of Intuit Financial Services, a division focused on improving consumer and small business financial problems by offering online banking solutions for the financial institutions that serve them.

Kiran Patel, EVP and general manager of Intuit’s Small Business Group, and Alex Lintner, SVP and general manager of Intuit’s Global Business Division, will retire from Intuit. The work of their respective organizations will be assimilated into the new organizational structure.

The company also named David Williams, 51, to the newly created position of chief tax officer. Williams has broad experience in public service, developing and implementing tax administration strategies and tax policies. He most recently served as the senior tax policy advisor to the United States Senate Committee on the Budget. Previously he held multiple executive roles at the IRS for more than a decade, including director of the Return Preparer Office and director of Electronic Tax Administration and Refundable Tax Credits. During his time at IRS, Williams was the U.S. government delegate to and chairman of the Taxpayer Services Group of the Forum on Tax Administration of the international Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Before working at the IRS, Williams served as deputy assistant secretary of U.S. Department of Treasury and on the staff of former Sen. Bill Bradley of New Jersey.

Intuit appointed Nikhil Arora as VP and Managing Director of Intuit India. Arora comes to Intuit from Laureate Education, where he served as VP and head of operations. He has more than 18 years’ experience in corporate strategy, business development, marketing, finance and operations, having worked for companies such as ADP, Delphi Automotive, Microsoft and CBS Television. Arora brings a deep understanding of the Indian and Central Asian marketplace and the challenges confronting businesses in India.

Analog Devices Names iCEO as CEO; Sees CAO Replacement

Vincent Roche, 53, has been named President and CEO and elected to the Board of Directors of Analog Devices, the analog, mixed-signal and digital signal processing integrated circuits company. Roche joined ADI in 1988. Over his nearly 25-year career at ADI, he has served in key leadership positions including worldwide sales, strategic marketing, and product management. He was appointed President of ADI in 2012 and has served as interim CEO since March this year following the unexpected death of ADI CEO Jerald G. Fishman.

The company promoted Eileen Wynne, 47, to vice president, corporate controller, and chief accounting officer. Wynne has been the ADI corporate controller since 2011, managing worldwide accounting, internal control, financial management planning and reporting, internal audit, and Securities and Exchange Commission reporting. She joined ADI in 1999 as external reporting manager. In 2004, she was promoted to assistant corporate controller. Prior to joining ADI, she held various positions in private and public accounting, including audit manager for the global audit, tax, and advisory firm Grant Thornton.

Wynne succeeds long-term ADI employee and retiring Chief Accounting Officer Seamus Brennan.

FIS Appoints COO to Board

Fidelity National Information Services named 25-year FIS veteran and current President and COO Gary A. Norcross, 46, to its board. Norcross, a highly respected industry executive, assumed the role of President and COO in 2012, and is responsible for the steering and execution of the company's global business strategy. Prior to his current role, Norcross held several leadership positions within the company and was instrumental in the 2009 acquisition and integration of Metavante Technologies. He was also instrumental in the acquisition of leading organizations such as Certegy and eFunds and more than 15 other companies, helping to grow FIS to more than 35,000 employees with over $5.8 billion in annual revenue. Norcross is active in the local North Florida community and serves on the Dean's Executive Advisory Board for the Sam M. Walton School of Business at the University of Arkansas. He is also on the board of the Knowledge is Power Program's (KIPP) Impact School in Jacksonville, Fla.

L-3 Communications Appoints Corporate Law Specialist to Board

L-3 Communications, the integrated space communications system provider, elected Vincent Pagano Jr., 62, a Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett attorney specializing in corporate law and former head of the firm’s capital markets practice, to the board. His legal career spanned 32 years at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett, where he served as a partner since 1986 before retiring in 2012. He headed the firm's capital markets practice, including its public company advisory practice, from 1999 to 2012. During this time, he represented investment banks and public companies, including L-3, on mergers and acquisitions, financings, corporate governance and disclosure matters. He serves on the Engineering Council of Lehigh University and on the board of directors of Cheniere Energy Partners GP, the general partner of Cheniere Energy Partners, and Hovnanian Enterprises. He also serves on several community and charitable boards in New York. Prior to his legal career, he was a practicing engineer.

Electronic Arts Appoints New York Times Digital Exec to Board

Electronic Arts appointed Denise F. Warren, 48, EVP of the Digital Products and Services Group at The New York Times, to its board of directors. Warren previously served as general manager and chief advertising officer of the New York Times Media Group, where she managed operations for NYTimes.com and related digital and mobile products.

SAS Appoints Head of Public Sector

SAS named Kroshlen Moodley as the company’s head of Public Sector, responsible for driving the company’s government and utilities business strategy within these sectors. Moodley was appointed at SAS in June 2008 as Strategic Account Manager for Eskom, and moved to the position of Senior Public Sector Industry Lead in 2009, where he was instrumental in driving the SAS Performance Monitoring and Evaluation business.  In 2011 Moodley was promoted to the position of Regional Head for the SAS Global Utilities business unit.  Before joining SAS, Moodley held a senior management position at SITA, and positions at Telkom and EDS.

Time Warner Cable Appoints CFO and COO for Biz Services

Time Warner Cable named Arthur T. Minson, Jr. as EVP and CFO. Irene M. Esteves will be leaving the company. Minson rejoins Time Warner Cable from AOL, where he served since 2009 in a number of senior management roles, including COO and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. Minson joined Time Warner Cable in 2006 as SVP of Finance and became EVP and Deputy CFO in 2007. Prior to that, he was SVP, Corporate Finance and Development at AOL, where he was responsible for financial planning and analysis, mergers and acquisitions and corporate financial administration. He's also held senior finance positions at AMC Networks (formerly Rainbow Media Holdings ) and Time Warner. Minson began his career in the Audit Practice of Ernst & Young, where he became a CPA.

Philip G. Meeks will join the company as EVP and COO for Business Services. Meeks most recently served as SVP of Cox Business, where he led 3,500 employees in making it the fastest growing business unit in the enterprise. Before joining Cox in 2008, he was the co-founder and lead executive for a start-up company focused on enhancing the supply chain between technology vendors and value added resellers in the Internet security, data storage and VoIP markets. He served in various strategy, sales and account management roles during 20 years of service at MCI Telecommunications, including SVP of Sales Operations and SVP of Strategic Ventures and Alliances. He started his career at AT&T Information Systems/Southern Bell in 1979 and progressed through various sales and marketing leadership roles.

Nokia Siemens Networks Appoints General Counsel

Nokia Siemens has appointed Maria Varsellona as general counsel. Varsellona joins Nokia Siemens Networks from Tetra Pak, where she was General Counsel overseeing global legal operations. In this role, she was responsible for general legal support to the business, including setting and executing the intellectual property strategy, corporate governance and risk management. Before that, Varsellona was Senior Counsel, Commercial Operations at GE Oil & Gas and previously held a number of other senior positions at GE. She has also served as Senior Counsel, Europe, at Hertz, the world’s largest car rental company. Varsellona has experience working for law firms in the UK and Italy.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members.
