Quest Diagnostics Names SVP, Diagnostic Solutions

Quest Diagnostics, the world's leading provider of diagnostic information services, named Jim Davis, a former VP for three GE healthcare businesses, as SVP, Diagnostic Solutions. Most recently, Davis served as CEO of InSightec, a medical device company that designs and develops ultrasound ablation devices that are guided by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. Prior to that, he held VP and general manager roles at GE's MRI, diagnostics imaging and healthcare IT businesses, where he established a record for achieving growth and operational improvement. Prior to GE, he led the development of strategic and operating initiatives for clients of McKinsey.

Davis will succeed Kathy Ordonez, who will work with Davis to ensure a smooth leadership transition before leaving the company.

Medidata Appoints Chief Marketing Officer

Cloud-based clinical development solutions provider Medidata Solutions announced that Steven Wilhite, a business leader and marketing executive with more than 25 years of experience building global brands, has been named Chief Marketing Officer and EVP. Steve will be responsible for all global marketing activities for the company, the leading provider of cloud-based solutions for the life sciences industry. Before joining Medidata Solutions, Steve held senior marketing and executive leadership roles at a number of premier global brands, including Apple, Volkswagen, Nissan and Hyundai. He also served as CEO of Jumpstart Automotive Group.

WebMD’s Top Management Steps Down; Company Appoints iCEO and New CFO

Consumer health-information website WebMD’s CEO Cavan Redmond, 51, stepped down after about a year on the job. Redmond, the former head of animal health, consumer health- care and corporate strategy for Pfizer, was hired about a year ago as CEO.

David Schlanger, 53, WebMD's SVP, strategic and corporate development, will take over on an interim basis in the top post as the board seeks a permanent replacement. Schlanger has been with WebMD and its predecessors for 18 years and was responsible for acquisitions and deals operations.

Peter Anevski, 45, SVP in charge of finance, will become WebMD's new CFO. Anevski played an integral role in WebMD's recent restructuring as well as developing the changes initiated in early 2012 related to WebMD's pricing structure and market positioning, both of which are driving improved financial results.

Anthony Vuolo, 54, WebMD's CFO since 2009, will stay with the company to focus on strategic projects. Vuolo is the former interim CEO and COO of the company. Prior to that, Vuolo served in senior financial, operational and business development positions at HLTH and its predecessors for more than ten years.

Accretive Health Appoints Former GE and Nortel Exec as COO

Accretive Health, a vendor of revenue cycle management technology, named Joseph Flanagan as its new COO. Flanagan previously served as SVP of worldwide operations and supply chain at Applied Materials. Prior to his role at Applied Materials, he was president of Nortel Business Services for Nortel Networks and also served as SVP of Global Operations where he managed Services Delivery, Technical and Product Support, Sourcing and Manufacturing all on a global basis. In this capacity, he was responsible for an organization of more than 9,000 employees around the world and three operational joint ventures located in China. Previously, he served most of his career working for General Electric (GE), holding leadership positions in many divisions.

InfuSystem Holdings’ New CIO is Senior IT Exec from Healthcare Domain

Infusion pumps and related service company, InfuSystem Holdings, has appointed Mike McReynolds, 44, as CIO. Most recently, McReynolds served as President of OxiArmor, a national provider of solutions-based, anti-microbial services, where he created and implemented distributor, independent, and alliance models and contracts that generated major new sales increases. Prior to that, he served as the CIO of RecoverCare, a leading provider of medical equipment, patient services, and clinical and financial supply chain solutions.

MedeAnalytics Names SVP of Product Innovation and CTO

MedeAnalytics, a leading provider of healthcare performance management solutions, named Ping Zhang , Ph.D. as SVP of product innovation and CTO. Most recently, he was the SVP of research & development for Epocrates, a mobile and cloud-based health pioneer widely recognized for developing the most popular point-of-care medical applications used by physicians. Prior to Epocrates, he held executive leadership positions for Harris Corporation, Carefx Corporation, QuadraMed Corporation, and Siemens.

TriZetto Goes Through Executive Shuffle as Chair/CEO Steps Down

Trace Devanny, chairman and CEO of TriZetto, the health-insurance software company, is leaving. Devanny’s departure comes just a month after TriZetto opened its new world headquarters in Douglas County. Devanny is leaving to “pursue other opportunities”. The company said that an executive search is underway for a permanent CEO.

It also said that board member Vicky Gregg, previously CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, will become non-executive chair.

Jude Dieterman, currently TriZetto’s EVP and COO, has been appointed to the new position of president and will be in day-to-day charge of the company. Dieterman has been with TriZetto for two years and previously was an executive with Cerner, eScout and VTech Industries.

Convergent Healthcare Appoints Healthcare Industry and Call Center Veteran as COO

Convergent Revenue Cycle Management, a leading provider of revenue cycle management and patient access solutions to healthcare providers across the nation, named Greg Rassier as COO. Rassier brings more than 20 years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle executive management and consumer / patient contact center operations. Prior to joining Convergent, Rassier operated his own consulting practice delivering full revenue cycle consulting services for healthcare providers and outsourcing organizations. Previously, he served as VP, National Operations for Conifer Health Solutions, where he was responsible for centralized and facility based operations including self-pay collections, insurance billing and follow up, financial clearance, charity management, customer service and patient access. Mr. Rassier has also managed operations for iQor, Risk Management Alternatives, and OSI.

Advanced Practice Strategies Expands Leadership Team

Advanced Practice Strategies, a provider of mobile and cloud-based health care performance management tools, has added two executive roles as part of the leadership team. Anders J Engen joined APS in a newly created role of VP, Client Services. Anders has more than twenty years of experience in healthcare delivery system and healthcare IT operations, focusing on service implementation, client services, and product management. This includes more than ten years with athenahealth.

Karen Budd joined APS as VP, Product Management. Karen brings over twenty years of experience in the healthcare industry in the areas of data analytics, population health management, and managed care. MedicaSoft Taps Healthcare Innovator as CEO

Mike O'Neill, former senior adviser at the Department of Veterans Affairs' Center for Innovation, has been named CEO at MedicaSoft, a health IT provider. While at VA, O’Neill led programs to introduce technology innovations and business practices in healthcare and claims processing in areas such as telehealth and VA's Blue Button personal health record. He also spearheaded VA's open source electronic health records initiative and served on the board of directors of OSEHRA, the first open source foundation in healthcare.

ViTel Net Appoints Visionary Leader in Health Informatics as Chief Medical Officer

ViTel Net, a leading provider of clinician-based telemedicine, named Robert M. Kolodner, MD as the company's new VP and Chief Medical Officer. Rob Kolodner is a visionary leader in health informatics who has been at the forefront of advances in health IT for more than two decades. He is an advocate of "positive disruption", promoting solutions that are better, cheaper, and more convenient for users and customers. As National Coordinator for Health IT in the Department of Health and Human Services, he promoted the adoption and use of electronic health records and advanced the policies and collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors to develop a nationwide, interoperable health IT infrastructure.  His work laid the foundation for the acceleration of national health IT initiatives. Before his work at HHS, Kolodner was the national informatics leader for the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) broad range of health IT activities. In the mid-1990's, he coordinated emerging telemedicine activities at local VA medical centers prior to the creation of VA's national Telemedicine Office.

Practice Fusion Appoints Exec to Develop Consumer Presence

Lisa Bari has been named associate VP of user growth at Practice Fusion, a provider of web-based electronic medical record (EMR) system to physicians. Prior to Practice Fusion, she held senior marketing management roles at Virgin America and leading digital agencies including Eleven, AKQA and Covario, responsible for clients such as Adobe, Clorox and Coca-Cola.

Patient Privacy Rights Hires Privacy-Preserving Health IT Pioneer as CTO

Patient Privacy Rights appointed Adrian Gropper, MD as its first CTO. Gropper is an expert in the regulated medical device field, an experienced medical informatics executive, and he has a long record of contributing to the development of state and national health information standards. Gropper has worked with federal initiatives and the Markle Foundation to help create the Direct Project’s secure email system and Blue Button technologies. Gropper is a pioneer in privacy-preserving health IT going as far back as the Guardian Angel Project at MIT in 1994. As CTO of one of the earliest personal health records companies, MedCommons, he actively participated in most of the PHR policy and standards initiatives of the past decade. Gropper contributed to the 2012 Massachusetts health payment reform legislation and is also active as an adviser to the Massachusetts Health Information Exchange, serves on the Massachusetts Medical Society’s IT committee and the NSTIC/ IDESG healthcare working group.

Qualcomm Life Appoints Acquired Company HealthyCircles’s Founder as Chief Medical Officer

Qualcomm Life, the Qualcomm subsidiary that offers the 2net platform and hub for connecting home remote monitoring devices to the cloud, is acquiring HealthyCircles, a SaaS startup that helps different care providers share patient information securely in a hospital setting. HealthyCircles Founder and Chief Strategic Officer Dr. James Mault, who was also one of the founding architects Microsoft HealthVault, will join the Qualcomm Life team as Chief Medical Officer. Mault began as a heart and lung transplant surgeon, but has been designing remote monitoring data capture software since the early 90s, when he started a company to create a Palm Pilot-based solution.

CareInSync Appoints New CEO

CareInSync taps industry veteran, Steve Curd as President and CEO. Curd is also joining CareInSync’s Board of Directors. Steve joins the CareInSync team with a distinguished reputation for building successful and innovative health care technology organizations. Most recently, Steve led the development of Global Care Quest, the Surgical Informatics division of KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America, which focuses on improving surgical team communication, patient safety, and operating room efficiency. Culbert Healthcare Solutions Appoints New Regional VPs of Sales

Health Systems International Announces New CEO

Health Systems International, a health care payment integrity and analytics services provider, named Scott Mingee as CEO. Mingee brings more than 22 years of relevant industry experience to this new role having previously served as group president, healthcare provider solutions at Xerox Services. Prior to Xerox, he worked as CIO of Outsourced Administrative Systems (OASYS) and held a variety of positions within the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield family of companies.

Mingee replaces Russell W. Sherlock, Health Systems International's co-founder and chairman of the board, who has served as CEO since 2004.

BluePrint Hires VP to Expand Healthcare Consulting and Software Products Portfolio

BluePrint Healthcare IT, a leading provider of business software solutions and consulting services that enable health systems to establish secure, connected and coordinated communities of care, named Colleen Woods to its executive management team as VP, after nearly two decades of noteworthy public service to the state of New Jersey in various strategic technology roles. Ex-Practice Fusion’s Chief Medical Officer Named to Same Role at GroupMD

GroupMD, a start-up that aims to give doctors a secure place to share clinical data, has named Robert Rowley, M.D., as its chief medical officer. Until 2011, he held the same post at Practice Fusion, one of the fastest growing health IT companies. He was a medical advisor at San Francisco's LifeNexus, a consumer health card company, on a part-time basis. Rowley, who helped launch Practice Fusion's technology, is also a former medical director and board member at Hill Physicians Medical Group, one of the largest and most influential individual practice groups in the nation.

Skylight Healthcare Announces New Chief Clinical Officer from TeleTracking Technologies

Skylight Healthcare Systems, a provider of interactive patient care and communication systems, named Lisa Romano, R.N., M.S.N. as chief clinical officer. Prior to joining Skylight, Romano served as chief nursing officer for TeleTracking Technologies. Prior to TeleTracking, Romano spent 20 years as a nurse and hospital administrator at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, where she was responsible for patient placement, patient transfer, quality and patient satisfaction initiatives. Former Misys and IBM Exec Joins Qualidigm as CEO

Qualidigm, a provider of health care consulting and health IT services, named Timothy M. Elwell as its new CEO. Elwell succeeds Marcia K. Petrillo as CEO. Elwell joins Qualidigm from Misys Open Source Solutions, a division of the global financial services and software provider Misys, where as VP he led the development of the world’s first standards-based, open-source Health Information Exchange (HIE). Previously, Elwell was the national sales director of IBM’s State and Local Global Business Consulting Division where he oversaw national sales activities for the world’s leading provider of computer products and services. Other positions held at IBM included numerous business development and M&A positions.

Former Mayo Exec Joins VitalHealth Software as Chief Medical Officer

VitalHealth Software, a leading global provider of web-based solutions for health management established by Mayo Clinic and the Noaber Foundation, named Dr. Lester Wold as Chief Medical Officer. Prior to his retirement from Mayo Clinic, Dr. Wold served in various leadership roles over the course of his career, including as Chair of Mayo's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Mayo Collaborative Services Board, and Mayo Medical Ventures Board. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Mayo Clinic Foundation.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.
