Verizon Adds Board Member

Verizon elected Kathryn A. Tesija, EVP of merchandising and supply chain at Target, its Board of Directors. Tesija joined Target in 1986 and has held a variety of leadership positions within merchandising. She is a member of Target's executive committee and currently oversees all merchandising functions, including product design and development, sourcing, inventory management, merchandising systems, presentation and operations, as well as the company's global supply chain.

Yahoo! Goes Through Board Changes

Yahoo! added Max Levchin, 36, to its board of directors. Levchin is a computer scientist, serial entrepreneur and angel investor with extensive experience building enduring Internet companies. His latest undertaking, HVF, is focused on solving big problems and improving lives by extracting insights from the vast quantities of data around us. Prior to founding HVF, Levchin served as VP of engineering at Google after its acquisition of Slide, an early developer of social applications which he founded and ran. Levchin incubated and was the first investor in Yelp. He was one of the co-founders of PayPal as well as the company’s CTO, from founding through its acquisition by eBay. Levchin also serves as chairman of the boards at Kaggle and Yelp and is a director at Evernote.

Brad Smith, 48, CEO of Intuit, and David W. Kenny, 50, CEO of the Weather Channel, depart from Yahoo’s Board. Smith, before being named Intuit’s CEO, was SVP and GM of Intuit's Small Business Division, led the company's Consumer Tax Group, and served as VP and GM of Intuit's Accountant Central and Developer Network. Previously, he was SVP of marketing and BD at ADP.

David W. Kenny is Chairman and CEO of The Weather Company. Previously, he co-founded and served as managing partner of VivaKi, the combined worldwide media and digital arm of Publicis Groupe, and he was Chairman and CEO at Digitas, a top global integrated brand agency.

Adobe Adds New Director to Board

Adobe expanded its board with the addition of new Director Kelly J. Barlow, a partner with ValueAct Capital who also serves on the board of directors of KAR Auction Services. He previously served on the boards of Allscripts and SIRVA. Prior to joining ValueAct, Barlow worked at EGM Capital, where he served primarily as portfolio manager. Prior to EGM, he worked at Wells Capital Management, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo Bank.

Design & Innovation Expert Joins Fiserv Board

Fiserv appointed Chris Flink, 40, to its Board of Directors. Flink, a partner at the innovation and design firm IDEO and a consulting associate professor at Stanford University, has extensive experience helping companies of all kinds innovate and grow. In his 15 years with IDEO, Flink has held a variety of roles, from heading the firm's Consumer Experience Design practice to co-founding its New York office. He has led diverse programs in collaboration with clients that include some of the world's most recognizable brands. He currently leads key client relationships, guiding portfolios of innovation projects in retail, education and consumer products. At Stanford, Flink is a lecturer at the Graduate School of Business, and a consulting associate professor at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design ( He has served on the's Strategy Board since inception and has taught courses within the engineering department.

Pitney Bowes Names New Board Chair; IBM Exec Joins as CEO

Murray D. Martin, 65, retired as Pitney Bowes’ Chairman, President and CEO and resigned from the company's board of directors. Michael I. Roth, 66, the Lead Independent Director, has been appointed Non-Executive Chairman of the Board. Mr. Roth has served on the Pitney Bowes Board of Directors since 1995 and as Lead Independent Director since early 2012. Mr. Roth is Chairman and CEO of The Interpublic Group of Companies, a global marketing communications and marketing services company and director of Ryman Hospitality oration.

Marc Lautenbach, 51, is the new President, CEO and Director of Pitney Bowes. Lautenbach joined the company after 27 years at IBM. Most recently, Lautenbach served as Managing Partner of IBM North America Global Business Services, responsible for the consulting and systems integration business, overseeing professionals in global delivery centers.  Prior to that, he was General Manager, IBM North America and General Manager, IBM Global Small and Medium Business. Lautenbach joined IBM in 1985 and held numerous other sales management positions including VP IBM Asia-Pacific Small and Medium Business.

Guidewire Software Appoints Director with Insurance Industry Experience

Guidewire Software appointed John P. Cavoores as a director of the Company. A former Co-CEO of Aspen Insurance with executive oversight for the Company's U.S. insurance platform as well as for a number of UK-based divisions, John Cavoores brings insurance industry experience to Guidewire's board. Past positions include that of President and CEO of OneBeacon Insurance Company, a subsidiary of the White Mountains Insurance Group, President and COO of National Union Insurance Company, a subsidiary of AIG, and 19 years at Chubb Insurance Group, where he served as Chief Underwriting Officer and EVP of Chubb and Son as well as Managing Director of overseas operations, based in London.

Tech Data Names New Director

Tech Data named Patrick Sayer, CEO of Eurazeo, to the company's board of directors. He replaces Maximilian Ardelt who retired. Previously, Mr. Sayer spent 20 years at Lazard, an international financial advisory and asset management firm, where he last served as managing director and head of Lazard's Technology and Media group.

Progress Software Names New Chair

Progress Software named Executive Chairman and interim CEO, Philip Pead, as President and CEO As a result, Mr. Pead will step down as Executive Chairman and will be replaced by Jack Egan, who has been elected Non-Executive Chairman. Mr. Egan, a Progress board member since 2011, is managing partner of Egan-Managed Capital.

RealNetworks Appoints Former Microsoft Exec as Board Member

RealNetworks named Michael T. Galgon, 45, to the company's Board of Directors. He served as Chief Advertising Strategist for Microsoft previously.He co-founded aQuantive, and played a leadership role in the company for a decade. aQuantive was purchased by Microsoft in 2007. Mr. Galgon has served as a director of Market Leader (formerly HouseValues). He was an officer in the U.S. Navy.

Former VMware Finance Exec Joins BluePhoenix’s Board

BluePhoenix announced Tom Jurewicz as a new member of the Board of Directors. Thomas J. Jurewicz is a highly respected financial expert in the technology industry. He spent 12 years at VMware where he held various financial positions including Treasurer, interim CFO, Board Member of its subsidiaries, and EMEA Controller. He was integral to the sale of the company to EMC and its subsequent IPO. Prior to that, he served in finance roles for CMC Industries and NETCOM. Early in his career, he was an investment banker for Merrill Lynch.

ANTs Software Appoints Directors

ANTs Software, a compatibility and virtual technologies software manufacturer, named Bruce Brown, currently the COO Freebeepay, former CEO of Instawares, and SVP & CIO of T-Mobile and PowerTel, as Director. Mr. Brown was instrumental in the explosive growth at Bellsouth during his 18 years there. Bruce brings more than thirty years of business leadership experience, as well as expertise in ecommerce, domestic & international wireless communications, software development and operations. Bruce came to these positions after eighteen years of increasingly responsible roles in BellSouth's International, Mobility and Information Systems business.

Elise Vetula, joins ANTs as the CFO and Member of the Board Of Directors, from NextTraq where she served as the Comptroller. Elise brings more than 20 years of experience as a CFO and in other leadership positions in the financial arena with organizations such as Char Baxter Communications.

Operational Intelligence Software Company Names New Board Member

Splunk named Stephen G. Newberry to Board of Directors. Mr. Newberry has been a director of Lam Research oration since 2005 and has served as the Chairman of the Board since November 2012. He served as Lam Research's CEO, President, and COO. Mr. Newberry joined Lam Research in 1997 as EVP and COO. Prior to joining Lam Research, Mr. Newberry held various executive positions at Applied Materials during his 17-year tenure there. Mr. Newberry also serves on the board of directors of Nanometrics Inorated, a provider of process control metrology and inspection systems.

New Chairman Named at BroadSoft

John (Jay) D. Markley, Jr., a current member of the BroadSoft Board, has been elected as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Markley is Managing Director of Bear Creek Capital Management, an investment company in the communications, media and technology industries. He has served on the BroadSoft Board of Directors since 2002. Prior to Bear Creek, he was affiliated with Columbia Capital where he served in a number of capacities including partner, venture partner and portfolio company executive. Prior to Columbia Capital, Mr. Markley served at the Federal Communications Commission. John replaces outgoing Chair Robert P. Goodman who advised the Company of his intent to resign from the Board of Directors.

Google Exec Departs from HomeAway’s Board; Former AOL Exec Fills Vacancy

Susan Wojcicki, 44, leaves as director of HomeAway, the company that manages online vacation rentals sites. Wojcicki joined HomeAway’s board in 2011, right before the company went public. A Google veteran, she serves currently as SVP of product management and engineering for all advertising products at Google.

The company elected Tina Sharkey to fill Wojcicki’s vacancy. Sharkey was chairman and global President of BabyCenter, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, from 2007 to 2012. Prior to that, she held various senior positions at AOL.

Payments Processor Appoints Accomplished Finance Exec to Board

Heartland Payment Systems appointed Maureen Breakiron-Evans, 57, to board. She served as CFO of Towers Perrin, VP & GM of CIGNA, EVP and CFO at Inovant, and held several positions at Transamerica Corporation including VP and General Auditor, VP of Control and Services and President of Transamerica Business Technologies. Ms. Breakiron-Evans began her career as a financial auditor, ultimately serving as an Audit Partner with Arthur Andersen.

BUZZMEDIA Names New Chair

BUZZMEDIA, a pop culture Web publisher, has a new CEO.  President Stephen Hansen has taken the top spot, replacing Tyler Goldman, who moves up to executive chairman after six years. Prior to BUZZMEDIA, Tyler worked extensively in digital publishing, helping found and build Broadband Sports, an early web publishing pioneer, and Movielink, a joint venture among Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, and Paramount Pictures, which was sold to Blockbuster.  Prior to these roles, Tyler was a venture capital attorney at Wilson, Sonsini and a sports attorney at Steinberg & Moorad, where he represented Steve Young and Troy Aikman.

Genesis Group Holdings Makes Board Changes

Genesis Group Holdings, the telecom infrastructure company, named Neal Oristano as director of the Company. Neal Oristano is VP, Global Service Provider Market Segment of Cisco. Prior to joining Cisco, he was SVP, Americas for service provider sales with Juniper.

Mark Durfee is also new director of the Company. Mark Durfee is Managing Director of Auerbach Acquisitions. Mr. Durfee has been a private equity investor for 25 years, investing in a broad portfolio of companies in the manufacturing, education, telecommunications, business and industrial services industries. He began his career at Manufacturers Hanover as a founding member of the special finance division, and then moved on to both Butler Capital and Kinderhook Capital, as a Partner, investing in over 40 middle market companies.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
