Adobe Adds New Director to Board

Adobe expanded its board with the addition of new Director Kelly J. Barlow, a partner with ValueAct Capital who also serves on the board of directors of KAR Auction Services. He previously served on the boards of Allscripts and SIRVA. Prior to joining ValueAct, Barlow worked at EGM Capital, where he served primarily as portfolio manager. Prior to EGM, he worked at Wells Capital Management, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo Bank.

CA Appoints Former Taleo Head as New CEO

CA Technologies has named Michael P. Gregoire, 46, as the company’s new CEO and a member of the Board of Directors. He will succeed William E. McCracken, 70, who has served as the CEO since 2010 and is retiring. Most recently, Gregoire was chairman, president and CEO of Taleo for seven years, spanning a period ranging from its IPO in 2005 to its acquisition by Oracle earlier in 2012. Before joining Taleo, Gregoire spent four years at PeopleSoft (which Oracle acquired), where he was the EVP, PeopleSoft Global Services, and spent 12 years at EDS (which HP acquired), where he held a number of senior positions including Executive Director of the Global Financial Markets Group, Chief Technologist for Manufacturing and Financial verticals, as well as several architecture and project management positions.

Design & Innovation Expert Joins Fiserv Board

Fiserv appointed Chris Flink, 40, to its Board of Directors. Flink, a partner at the innovation and design firm IDEO and a consulting associate professor at Stanford University, has extensive experience helping companies of all kinds innovate and grow. In his 15 years with IDEO, Flink has held a variety of roles, from heading the firm's Consumer Experience Design practice to co-founding its New York office. He has led diverse programs in collaboration with clients that include some of the world's most recognizable brands. He currently leads key client relationships, guiding portfolios of innovation projects in retail, education and consumer products. At Stanford, Flink is a lecturer at the Graduate School of Business, and a consulting associate professor at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design ( He has served on the's Strategy Board since inception and has taught courses within the engineering department.

CSC Hires Former Rolls-Royce IT Exec as CIO; Names New Healthcare Industry Group Leader

CSC named Doug Tracy, 52, as CIO. He joins CSC from Dana Holding oration, where as VP and CIO he integrated the global IT organization and improved the efficiency and business focus of the company's applications and infrastructure assets. Previously, he had served at Rolls-Royce as EVP of IT for a $4 billion North American subsidiary and as global CTO with responsibility for IT strategy and architecture.

Guy M. Hains stepped down from his position as VP and General Manager of the Global Healthcare Industry Group at CSC.  Andrea Fiumicelli has been appointed VP and General Manager of the Global Healthcare Industry Group. Prior to his appointment he served as Director of Healthcare Integration and Projects since 2011. He joined the Company as part of the 2011 acquisition of iSOFT, a leading healthcare software company where he served as CEO.

Former Dell Services Exec Joins MICROS Systems as CEO

MICROS Systems, the point-of-sale software company, elected Peter Altabef, 53, to succeed A.L. "Tom" Giannopoulos, 73, as MICROS' President and CEO. Mr. Giannopoulos, who has served as the Company's CEO since 1993, will continue his duties as executive chairman of the Company during the period of his employment, which extends to 2014. Altabef served as President and CEO of Perot Systems until 2009, when the company was acquired by Dell. Then he served as President of Dell Services until his departure in 2011.

Pitney Bowes Names New Board Chair; IBM Exec Joins as CEO

Murray D. Martin, 65, retired as Pitney Bowes’ Chairman, President and CEO and resigned from the company's board of directors. Michael I. Roth, 66, the Lead Independent Director, has been appointed Non-Executive Chairman of the Board. Mr. Roth has served on the Pitney Bowes Board of Directors since 1995 and as Lead Independent Director since early 2012. Mr. Roth is Chairman and CEO of The Interpublic Group of Companies, a global marketing communications and marketing services company and director of Ryman Hospitality oration.

Marc Lautenbach, 51, is the new President, CEO and Director of Pitney Bowes. Lautenbach joined the company after 27 years at IBM. Most recently, Lautenbach served as Managing Partner of IBM North America Global Business Services, responsible for the consulting and systems integration business, overseeing professionals in global delivery centers.  Prior to that, he was General Manager, IBM North America and General Manager, IBM Global Small and Medium Business. Lautenbach joined IBM in 1985 and held numerous other sales management positions including VP IBM Asia-Pacific Small and Medium Business.

Guidewire Software Appoints Director with Insurance Industry Experience

Guidewire Software appointed John P. Cavoores as a director of the Company. A former Co-CEO of Aspen Insurance with executive oversight for the Company's U.S. insurance platform as well as for a number of UK-based divisions, John Cavoores brings insurance industry experience to Guidewire's board. Past positions include that of President and CEO of OneBeacon Insurance Company, a subsidiary of the White Mountains Insurance Group, President and COO of National Union Insurance Company, a subsidiary of AIG, and 19 years at Chubb Insurance Group, where he served as Chief Underwriting Officer and EVP of Chubb and Son as well as Managing Director of overseas operations, based in London.

Tech Data Names New Director

Tech Data named Patrick Sayer, CEO of Eurazeo, to the company's board of directors. He replaces Maximilian Ardelt who retired. Previously, Mr. Sayer spent 20 years at Lazard, an international financial advisory and asset management firm, where he last served as managing director and head of Lazard's Technology and Media group.

Progress Software Names New Chair and CEO as CFO Leaves

Progress Software named Executive Chairman and interim CEO, Philip Pead, as President and CEO As a result, Mr. Pead will step down as Executive Chairman and will be replaced by Jack Egan, who has been elected Non-Executive Chairman. Mr. Egan, a Progress board member since 2011, is managing partner of Egan-Managed Capital.

Mr. Pead, an industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience in the software industry has served as a member of the Progress Board of Directors since 2011. He was elected non-executive and then Executive Chairman in 2012 and named interim CEO a month ago. Mr. Pead was formerly the Chairman of Allscripts and the President and CEO of Eclipsys, a leading provider of enterprise clinical and financial software for hospitals. Eclipsys merged with Allscripts in 2010. He previously held senior leadership roles in several publicly and privately held companies, including Per-Se Technologies, Dun & Bradstreet and Attachmate.

Melissa H. Cruz, the company's SVP, Finance and Administration and CFO, has decided to retire in 2013 for personal reasons. Ms. Cruz will continue in her current role until her successor is named and will remain available to the company as long as necessary in order to ensure a smooth transition.

AVG Technologies Names Senior Finance and Marketing Exec

AVG Technologies named Martin Wheatcroft as SVP, Finance and Group Financial Controller. He joins AVG from National Grid, electricity and gas utility company. Until recently he lead the accounting function for the $12 billion US business, including regulated electric and gas utilities in New York City, Long Island, upstate New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Judith Bitterli joined as SVP of Marketing. Bitterli will oversee the company's global marketing and communications operations. With more than 25 years of executive level experience in sales, marketing and business operations, Bitterli joins AVG from RealNetworks where she was CMO and SVP. Her responsibilities will include business intelligence, PR and social media, branding strategy and implementation as well as establishing a voice of the customer.

RealNetworks Appoints Former Microsoft Exec as Board Member

RealNetworks named Michael T. Galgon, 45, to the company's Board of Directors. He served as Chief Advertising Strategist for Microsoft previously.He co-founded aQuantive, and played a leadership role in the company for a decade. aQuantive was purchased by Microsoft in 2007. Mr. Galgon has served as a director of Market Leader (formerly HouseValues). He was an officer in the U.S. Navy.

Saba Names iCFO

Saba named Michael Shahbazian as Interim CFO. He joins Saba from PDF Solutions where he served as the Company's Interim CFO and VP of Finance. Prior to that, Mr. Shahbazian served as CFO at various companies, including Guidewire Software, Embarcadero and Niku oration (acquired by Computer Associates).

Mercury Systems Hires CIO from Aspect Software

Mercury Systems, provider of commercially developed, open sensor and Big Data processing systems, for critical commercial, defense and intelligence applications, appointed Jamie Ryan as VP/CIO. Prior to joining Mercury, he worked as CIO for Aspect Software where he developed and executed a global IT strategy that aligned business applications and infrastructures with orate objectives. Previously, he was Director of IT at OpenMarket, where he developed and deployed IT to support rapid growth. In addition, he held increasingly responsible senior roles leading information systems, infrastructure support and network management with Digital Equipment oration.

Commtouch Sees CFO Replacement

Brian D. Briggs will replace outgoing CFO Ron Ela at Commtouch Software. Briggs will join Commtouch after serving as EVP and CFO at SecureNet Payment Systems, a payment processing technology provider. He brings more than 22 years of finance and operations experience, offering extensive expertise in profitability building in both public and private equity sectors, including leading an IPO and over four years of successfully serving as CFO of a publicly traded company. Prior to his post at SecureNet, Briggs served in various management roles at Custom Direct , Ashton-Potter, Ithaca Ban (now M&T Bank), and Ernst & Young.

Former VMware Finance Exec Joins BluePhoenix’s Board

BluePhoenix announced Tom Jurewicz as a new member of the Board of Directors. Thomas J. Jurewicz is a highly respected financial expert in the technology industry. He spent 12 years at VMware where he held various financial positions including Treasurer, interim CFO, Board Member of its subsidiaries, and EMEA Controller. He was integral to the sale of the company to EMC and its subsequent IPO. Prior to that, he served in finance roles for CMC Industries and NETCOM. Early in his career, he was an investment banker for Merrill Lynch.

ANTs Software Appoints Director and CFO

ANTs Software, a compatibility and virtual technologies software manufacturer, named Bruce Brown, currently the COO Freebeepay, former CEO of Instawares, and SVP & CIO of T-Mobile and PowerTel, as Director. Mr. Brown was instrumental in the explosive growth at Bellsouth during his 18 years there. Bruce brings more than thirty years of business leadership experience, as well as expertise in ecommerce, domestic & international wireless communications, software development and operations. Bruce came to these positions after eighteen years of increasingly responsible roles in BellSouth's International, Mobility and Information Systems business.

Elise Vetula, joins ANTs as the CFO and Member of the Board Of Directors, from NextTraq where she served as the Comptroller. Elise brings more than 20 years of experience as a CFO and in other leadership positions in the financial arena with organizations such as Char Baxter Communications.

Operational Intelligence Software Company Names New Board Member

Splunk named Stephen G. Newberry to Board of Directors. Mr. Newberry has been a director of Lam Research oration since 2005 and has served as the Chairman of the Board since November 2012. He served as Lam Research's CEO, President, and COO. Mr. Newberry joined Lam Research in 1997 as EVP and COO. Prior to joining Lam Research, Mr. Newberry held various executive positions at Applied Materials during his 17-year tenure there. Mr. Newberry also serves on the board of directors of Nanometrics Inorated, a provider of process control metrology and inspection systems.

Zebra Technologies Appoints New VP & MD to Lead EMEA Business

Zebra Technologies, a recognised global leader in technologies that extend real-time visibility into business operations, has appointed Ashley Ford as new VP & Managing Director to lead its EMEA operations. Ashley returns to EMEA following a successful two year assignment as VP and General Manager for North America. This assignment followed six successful years leading Zebra's EMEA sales organisation, He takes over the EMEA leadership position from Rod Rodericks who has assumed the role of Vice President and General Manager of Zebra's Asia Pacific region. Before joining Zebra in 2005, Ashley held senior sales and channel management positions within the IT, printing and communications industries at major organisations such as Samsung Electronics, Xerox Europe and AST Computer Europe.

New Chairman Named at BroadSoft

John (Jay) D. Markley, Jr., a current member of the BroadSoft Board, has been elected as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Markley is Managing Director of Bear Creek Capital Management, an investment company in the communications, media and technology industries. He has served on the BroadSoft Board of Directors since 2002. Prior to Bear Creek, he was affiliated with Columbia Capital where he served in a number of capacities including partner, venture partner and portfolio company executive. Prior to Columbia Capital, Mr. Markley served at the Federal Communications Commission. John replaces outgoing Chair Robert P. Goodman who advised the Company of his intent to resign from the Board of Directors.

Ellie Mae Appoints SVP, Marketing

Ellie Mae, the on-demand automation solutions provider for the mortgage industry, named Susan Chenoweth Scarth, a veteran marketer at a number of high-growth software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies, as SVP of marketing. Scarth has held executive global marketing positions at leading-edge software companies, including Jigsaw/, an online business directory; Taleo, a leading provider of SaaS Talent Management solutions; and Commerce One, a leading provider of B2B e-commerce solutions. Scarth was also director of North American field marketing at Netscape. She began her career in marketing at Microsoft and prior to that was in sales at IBM where she sold to financial institutions.

GlobalSCAPE's CEO Retires

James R. Morris, GlobalSCAPE's CEO and a director of the Company, retired from all positions with the Company. Jim Morris joined GlobalSCAPE as president and CEO in 2008. Morris served in military intelligence, the civil service, in senior executive positions for leading companies including General Dynamics, Veridian, Veritect, and Trident Data Systems. He also co-led the Y2K Cyber Assurance cell for the White House, was an independent advisor for two security software product companies, and served on numerous industry and government review panels. He has received advanced training from the national security community and served as a subject matter expert on network security-focused delegations to the Peoples Republic of China and Australia.

Simulation Software Company Appoints Finance Leader

Exa Corporation, a global innovator of fluids simulation solutions for product engineering, named Stephen P. Sarno, 45, as VP of Finance and Chief Accounting Officer (CAO). Prior to joining the company, he served as SVP, Finance and Corporate Controller at Education Holdings 1, formerly The Princeton Review. Additional prior work experience highlights include a VP, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer role with Sapient as well as over 10 years of experience at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Senior Manager.

Photo-Editing Software Firm Appoints Walmart Exec as CEO

Aviary — the outfit that provides photo-editing software development kits to companies like Twitter, Yahoo and other, smaller, developers — named Tobias Peggs as its new CEO. Peggs was recently a product manager at Walmart, and before that, was the CEO of OneRiot. He will take over the position from Aviary co-founder Avi Muchnick, who will assume the role of chief product officer.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.
