HP Makes Series of Tech Appointments

HP named Martin Fink as its CTO and head of HP Labs research division. He has until recently run the Business Critical Server business. Fink replaces Prith Banerjee, who left HP earlier this year to take a job as CTO of the Swiss industrial giant ABB. Ric Lewis has been named to run that business unit for now. The interim head of HP labs, Chandrakant Patel, has been named an HP Senior Fellow and Chief Engineer.

Brocade Names CTO for its Service Provider business

Networking equipment company Brocade named networking industry visionary David Meyer to the position of Service Provider business CTO and chief scientist. A foremost authority on software-defined networking (SDN), Internet routing and OpenFlow technologies, Meyer will play an integral role in the shaping of Brocade's cloud networking, advanced routing and application delivery strategy. Prior to joining Brocade, Meyer held various positions at Cisco, most recently as a Distinguished Engineer focused on examining the growing role of OpenFlow and SDN within the enterprise and service provider markets. Meyer is an active participant and influential force within a number of industry associations, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) and the Open Networking Foundation (ONF).

Synovus Bank Names Company Veteran as CIO

Synovus Bank appointed Renee S. Roth as CIO. Renee had been their Senior Group Executive of Operations. She began her career with Synovus in 1994 as Product Manager overseeing ATM applications. Since that time, she has held various positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as Senior Group Executive of Operations.  Prior to joining Synovus, she held positions as Assistant Director of Human Resources and Director of Check Operations for the Federal Reserve Bank.

Sterling Construction Company Hires CIO

Sterling Construction Company named Scott DeMasse as SVP and CIO . Mr. DeMasse served for 11 years as Regional Director of IT at Skanska USA, and in recent years, he has served as Senior Director of IT at Flatiron Construction.

PAR-Springer-Miller Systems Appoints VP for Adoption of New Technologies

Sophie Grigg promoted to VP of advanced technology at leading provider of guest-centric hospitality management systems company PAR-Springer-Miller. Grigg has been with PAR Springer-Miller for 6 years, her most recent role as VP of Research & Development. In addition to managing all aspects of product development, Grigg has been instrumental in PAR Springer-Miller’s involvement with the Hospitality Technology Next Generation organization (HTNG) including the certification of both SMS|Host and SpaSoft Spa Management Software as HTNG compliant applications.

AMD CIO Joins Brightstar

Michael Wolfe, 53, CIO of Advanced Micro Devices, is joining Brightstar as CIO and CTO. Wolfe replaces Rafael Sanchez who is pursing employment outside the wireless distribution company. Before serving as AMD CIO for nearly two years, Bright worked five years as an executive at HP , most recently as VP of IT. Prior to HP, Bright spent 24 years at Motorola , including a stint as CIO when the company’s semiconductor unit grew into Freescale Semiconductor.

CTO of Huawei North America resigns

Huawei North America’s CTO Matt Bross has resigned. He will be joining Juniper Networks. He is the former CTO of British Telecom and had joined Huawei in 2009.

Disney Studios Ups VP, Marketing Technology to CTO

Jamie Voris has been promoted to CTO for the Studio, overseeing the development and implementation of technology strategies and innovations that broadly support The Walt Disney Studios and its business objectives. He most recently served as VP, Marketing Technology for The Walt Disney Studios. Jamie joined Disney in 2010 from the National Football League, where he was CTO, Digital Media, and VP, Research and Development. Jamie also worked as a technology leader at Playboy, PhotoAlley, USWeb/CKS, and Intel.

Former GM of Microsoft Lync/Skype Division Joins SMART Technologies as CTO

SMART Technologies, a leading provider of collaboration solutions, named Warren Barkley as SMART's CTO. Mr. Barkley brings over 17 years of technology experience and leadership, most recently serving as General Manager in the Microsoft Lync/Skype division. Barkley held several key positions in Microsoft over his tenure and was instrumental in the development of Microsoft Lync as the communication and collaboration software of choice for Fortune 500 companies. At Microsoft he played a central role in establishing WiFi as a worldwide standard, and building world class real time communications technologies used by hundreds of millions of users every day. Barkley holds over 35 worldwide patents in networking, wireless and communications.

Union Bank Appoints CTO and Chief Enterprise Architect

Union Bank named Dana Edwards as EVP and CTO . Edwards is responsible for leading the IT Group. Prior to joining Union Bank, Edwards served as SVP, technology executive for Bank of America and as VP, managing director at Wachovia.

Meera Rao has joined the bank as SVP, Chief Enterprise Architect. Rao is responsible for four areas of IT architecture including: business architecture, data architecture, application architecture and technical architecture. Prior to joining Union Bank, Rao worked for Bank of America for 10 years, where she was SVP, architecture executive. Previously, Rao delivered solutions for the financial services industry while working for Oracle and IBM.

Arizona Public Service Company Names Former American Express Tech Exec as CIO

Arizona Public Service Company named Cindy Berger as VP and CIO. With more than 25 years experience with American Express – most recently as VP of Global Corporate Technologies – Berger brings expertise in managing global technology, finance and business organizations. She joined APS earlier this year and was responsible for the operation of all the systems that monitor electricity delivery and customer billing, as well as IT support for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.

CIO leaves PubliGroupe

PubliGroupe eliminates the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Department at Group level. As a consequence of this decision, Christopher J. Blackwell, 45, CIO and member of the General Manage-ment of PubliGroupe. Blackwell assumed the role of CIO in 2008, was responsible for the development of the PubliGroupe IT strategy and its implementation within the Group's operational units. Going forward, all directly technology-related responsibilities will be performed at the operational level and by the respective subsidiary companies.

Value Options Promotes IT VP to CIO

Shaun Costello, VP of IT hosting services at Value Options, a provider of online behavioral health and wellness services, has been named CIO of the company. Prior to his tenure at ValueOptions he spent time at Charles E. Smith Companies, Sato Travel and Intelligent Electronics. Before his civilian career, he served in the United States Marine Corps.

Warner Music CIO Joins Girl Scouts of the USA

Girl Scouts of the USA appointed Maggie Miller as CIO. Maggie had been SVP and CIO at Warner Music Group. Prior to joining Warner Music, she held the CIO post at J. Sainsbury, one of Europe's largest food retailers. Before that she served as VP and CIO for Dell EMEA.

TrustComm Appoints CTO

Rodrigo Gomez was appointed as CTO at TrustComm, the small business provider of global satellite communications services. His previous experience includes senior engineering positions with Stratos Global and SES Americom, one of the world’s largest satellite operators.

Timios National Corporation Creates CTO Role

The national provider of real estate services to banks, financial institutions and mortgage lenders has appointed Norman E. Gottschalk III to the recently created position of CTO. He joins the Company from Earnhardt Ganassi & Target Ganassi Racing, where he served as VP of IT. Prior to Earnhardt Ganassi & Target Ganassi Racing, Mr. Gottschalk won numerous awards, and held several executive positions in Real Estate technology, servicing many of the largest lenders in the US. Further, Mr. Gottschalk was the principal designer behind the technology system that TNC currently utilizes, and represents a great asset to enhancing the end to end, integrated solution across the Company’s subsidiaries.

Vericrest Names Former JPMorgan Chase Tech Exec as CIO

Radha Thompson was appointed as CIO at Vericrest, the financial services company. Thompson has held several senior leadership roles in Technology at JPMorgan Chase, Washington Mutual, Providian and Accenture. At Washington Mutual, Thompson led a multimillion-dollar project to deliver a single loan origination system that resulted in improved business results, decreased errors and reduced expenses.

Colgate University finds CIO at Clarkson University

Kevin Lynch joins CIO at Colgate University, effective January next year. Lynch brings 15 years of experience in technology innovation, leadership, strategic planning, and fiscal management in the nonprofit and commercial sectors including higher education. He has served as CIO of Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., since 2010. For nearly a decade prior to that, he served Clarkson’s Office of Technology as an employee of Collegis/Sungard (now Ellucian), first as a technical director, and, beginning in 2008, as CIO.

syncreon Announces New President Technology

The customized supply chain solutions company named Vittorio Favati as the new President Technology. Mr. Favati brings industry experience to his new role at syncreon, having previously served as Chief Business Development Officer at CEVA Logistics. From 2001 to 2010, Vittorio was based in Singapore, where he was the President of CEVA’s Asia Pacific region and led significant regional growth. Vittorio has significant experience and ability both in technology operations and in promoting large scale growth on a cross-segment basis. He also brings experience in mergers & acquisitions, integration, forming strategic alliances and redesigning business processes.

Sun Products Appoints CTO

The Sun Products Corporation, the consumer products company, named Carlos Linares as CTO. Mr. Linares will be responsible for leading the Research and Development organization including product and packaging innovation and development, process engineering, quality assurance and regulatory compliance. Mr. Linares joins Sun Products from Johnson & Johnson where he served as VP, R&D Strategy and Open Innovation, developing strategy, driving innovation and building new capabilities for the Global R&D organization. In 2005, he joined the Alberto Culver Company, ultimately serving as SVP, R&D, Quality and Regulatory. He began his career in R&D with Procter & Gamble.

US Department Of Commerce gets a new Deputy CIO

The US Commerce Department named Kirit Amin as deputy CIO. He is heading over to Commerce from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition to being the deputy CIO, Amin will be the CTO. Amin joined HUD in February as the chief technology and innovation officer. Before that he was the CIO for the State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs for five years, where he left in 2011.

Cambridge Major Laboratories Names Pharma Industry IT Exec as CIO

Global pharmaceutical chemistry leader, Cambridge Major Laboratories, appointed Joe Otto as VP of IT, CIO.  He is responsible for the strategic IT investments and implementations for Cambridge Major in the US and Europe.  Previous to joining Cambridge Major he was VP of IT at DDN, and has also been an Independent Consultant in the Healthcare Industry. Earlier in his career Joe worked for LSI Logic, a semiconductor company, working out their Munich, Germany facility. After relocating back to Wisconsin, Joe held the position of CIO for Schwarz Pharma.

Corcentric Names Company Veteran as Tech Services VP

Corcentric, a leading provider of financial process automation solutions, named Clint Johnston to the role of VP of Technology Services. Clint has played a major role in Corcentric since the company’s inception in the late 1990’s. During his tenure at Corcentric, Clint has used his 18-plus years of experience in distribution and accounting to help provide the vision that has fueled the company’s growth. He has been extensively involved in both the operations and sales divisions of the company and will continue to do so in his new role.

Former Google and AOL Exec Joins Martini Media as CTO

Martini Media, the digital media and content platform for engaging the audience with the most money and influence online, named Gagan Saksena as CTO. He joins Martini Media as CTO from Ideascopic, a startup focused on building analytics and insights from foot traffic in retail locations, where he served as CEO and founder. Before that, he was technical account manager at Google. He also worked at Netscape, on the browser team and subsequently at AOL.

Former President of Technology of AOL named CTO at appointed Martin Fisher to the role of CTO.  Martin is a former President of Technology for AOL, former CTO of Revolution Health Group, and Founder and former CEO of Captico. Prior to his career in technology, Martin completed several tours of duty in Vietnam in the armed forces and worked for the National Security Agency, which sparked his interest in and success with computers and technology.

Sevatec Strengthens Executive Team with Key CTO Appointment

Sevatec, a leading provider of management and technology consulting services for the federal government, named Michael “Mike” McKinney as CTO. McKinney is a highly regarded senior technology leader with a career spanning more than 15 years. Prior to joining Sevatec, McKinney held several technical and management positions at high-growth government contractors including Trusted Concepts, Solutions Made Simple, and Platinum Solutions. He brings extensive experience developing and delivering mission-critical federal systems and managing large-scale corporate IT environments. His previous private sector engagements include various leadership roles at AOL and Dell/Perot Systems.

Account Control Technology Appoints CIO

Account Control Technology, a national leader in delivering debt management and recovery solutions, names Sameer Maini as the agency’s CIO. He comes to ACT with 13 years of senior-level engineering, application development and technology leadership experience. Leveraging an extensive background in contact call center support both in the U.S. and internationally, Maini has driven business performance within the collections industry for nine years. His longest tenure was with the Bureau of Collection Recovery / UniversalSystems, where he held varying positions of increased responsibility, culminating in CTO. Maini most recently served as VP of processing and technology with Cavalry Portfolio Services.

GigMasters Names VP of Technology with Combined Technology and Marketing Expertise, the event booking service company, named Michael Rogers as its new VP of Technology. A former Director of Technology at Catapult Marketing and President and Founder at Brainloaf, Rogers brings over 15 years of extensive experience to GigMasters where he will lead marketing technology, product strategy, and software development.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
