McKesson Names Company Veteran as Strategy Leader

McKesson named Brian Tyler as EVP of Corporate Strategy and Business Development. He succeeds Marc Owen, who joined McKesson Specialty Health as president earlier this year. Tyler will remain president of McKesson's U.S. Pharmaceutical business while the company searches for his successor. A 15-year McKesson veteran, he ran McKesson's Specialty Care Solutions and Medical-Surgical businesses until assuming his most recent position as president of U.S. Pharmaceutical. Previuosly Tyler has served as SVP of Strategy and Business Development for McKesson Distribution Solutions, with responsibility for strategic planning, joint ventures, alliances and other business development activities for McKesson's pharmaceutical distribution, medical-surgical, health solutions and retail automation groups.

Agilent Technologies Names Diagnostics and Genomics Group President

Lars Holmkvist, president and CEO of Dako, a unit of Agilent Technologies' diagnostic and genomics group, has been named president of Agilent's diagnostic and genomics group and an SVP of Agilent. Holmkvist joined Agilent in June 2012, when Dako, a Danish diagnostics company, was acquired by Agilent. He has been president and CEO of Dako since 2009. Before joining Dako, he served as President Europe for Applied Biosystems, where he was later promoted to President International with responsibility for all commercial operations outside the U.S. Before that, Holmkvist was at Medtronic Vascular & Cardiac Surgery, where he was VP for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Verisk Health CEO departs, becomes QuantiaMD President

Mike Coyne, CEO of Verisk Health, a health care software developer, has been named president of QuantiaMD, an online learning network for physicians. As a senior leader since 2009, first as President, and later as CEO, Coyne joined Verisk Health in 2005 as the head of strategic planning, responsible for the development and implementation of new market initiatives. Prior to joining Verisk Health, Coyne held several key positions at Verisk Analytics. Most recently, he was a member of the corporate business development group. He also served as a product manager in Verisk Insurance Solutions division.

Altaris Managing Director Resigns from Allscripts’ Board

Michael J. Kluger, 55, resigned from the Board of Allscripts. He is a Managing Director and Member of Investment Committee of Altaris Capital Partners. He was a Founding Partner of Liberty Partners, where he specialized in healthcare investments. Prior to that, he served as a SVP at Merrill Lynch Interfunding and Managing Director at Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity.

WebMD Hires Ad Industry Expert to lead Consumer Services

WebMD appointed David C. Marek as EVP, Consumer Services, replacing Gregory A. Mason who left the company. David brings to WebMD more than 20 years of healthcare industry and leading agency experience. David was most recently with the business intelligence think-tank Inferential Focus. David has spent more than a decade within Publicis Groupe where he led the flagship healthcare agency at Saatchi & Saatchi Health, New York, prior to being named Worldwide Business Director for Publicis. Prior to his agency years, he spent more than ten years in pharmaceutical sales and marketing, launching and building brands at Eli Lilly and AstraZeneca.

Care Coordination Leader Clarity Health Names CEO and Executive Chairman

Clarity Health, a fast-growing care coordination service for medical practices and hospitals, appointed Bill Bunker as CEO and Peter Gelpi as Executive Chairman.

Gelpi, the company’s CEO since its founding in 2007, will now oversee corporate strategy, including expansion into new geographic markets and the development of new product offerings.

Bunker is a software industry veteran, most recently serving as president of Vertafore Agency Markets, the leading provider of technology solutions to independent insurance agencies. Prior to Vertafore, Bunker was an executive with Onyx Software.

MedAssets Exec Joins Internet-based Medical Claims Clearinghouse

Navicure, a leading Internet-based medical claims clearinghouse for physician practices, hired Jeff Wood to be VP of product management. Most recently, Wood served as VP, product strategy and planning for revenue cycle technologies at MedAssets. In addition, Wood also held several high-level positions at other technology-based organizations, including DonorsChoose.org where he served as an executive director responsible for fundraising and cause marketing partnerships. Prior to these jobs, Wood worked at Blackbaud, Online Insight and Bain & Company.

Medical Documentation Venture Appoints Founder of Transcription Company as CFO

Provider of cloud computing and medical documentation venture Shareable Ink names Lance Fusacchia as CFO. He is founder and former CEO and CFO of Webmedx, a medical transcription, speech recognition and analytics company, which was acquired by Nuance Communications in 2011. He also has held positions at several early- and mid-stage growth companies, including Automated Healthcare (acquired by McKesson) and Extrel (acquired by Millipore).

APS  Hires Sales Leader to Lead Growth as it Transforms Continuing Education in Healthcare

Matthew Hanis has been named VP of sales at Advanced Practice Strategies, a provider of mobile and Web-based tools for the health care industry to fill knowledge gaps that lead to serious medical errors. He is the former VP and general manager of the clinical integration unit at Truven Health Analytic, formerly the healthcare business of Thomson Reuters.

J&J Subsidiary’s Exec Joins Healthcare Analytics and Software Company

Greg Giltrow has been named VP of sales and client service at ArborMetrix, a health care analytics and software company. He is former strategic account director at HealthMedia, the client services unit of Johnson & Johnson. n that role, he managed all aspects of HealthMedia's relationships with its two largest insurer customers.

Former Siemens Exec joins Patient Care Solutions Company

EarlySense, a developer of proactive patient care solutions, appointed Tim O’Malley as president. He comes to EarlySense from ZOLL Medical, where he had served as VP of the US Hospital Division since 2007. Prior to ZOLL, he was president and CEO of Medwave. Mr. O’Malley also spent 16 years at Siemens where he reached the position of VP and division manager for the Electro Medical Division in North America.

CTG Appoints Retired Exec with Health Payer Leadership Experience to Board

David Klein, former CEO of Lifetime Healthcare Companies, a provider of health care coverage and services, has been named to the board of directors for CTG, an IT products and services company that serves the health care industry and other sectors. The Lifetime Healthcare Companies include Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Univera Healthcare, Med America Long Term Care Insurance Company, Lifetime Health Medical Group, Lifetime Care, and EBS-RMSCO Benefit Solutions. Mr. Klein began his career in the health payer industry in 1972 at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and was employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of the Rochester Area.  That company merged with other upstate New York Blues plans in 1998 to form Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.

Healthcare Veteran Named to Data Warehousing Tools Company’s Board

Healthcare Quality Catalyst, a provider of data warehousing tools to health care providers, named Todd C. Cozzens to its Board of Directors. He is a Senior Advisor at Sequoia Capital. He was most recently the CEO of the Accountable Care Solutions group of Optum and CEO of Picis prior to its acquisition by United Health in 2010. Prior to Picis, Cozzens served as the president of a division of Marquette Medical Systems (now GE Healthcare) and held several other senior management positions, including VP of sales.

HealthTech Adds Two Industry Veterans to Leadership Team

HealthTech, a health IT holding company that owns Healthcare Management Systems, MEDHOST and Sentry Healthcare Services, has named two healthcare IT industry veterans to key operations and sales positions. Stan Gilbreath as VP to oversee client services for both HMS and MEDHOST, while Eric Anderton will lead new account sales for HMS as VP. Gilbreath has more than 25 years of technology and software experience; he joins HealthTech from Allscripts where he led the company’s professional services division. Previously, Gilbreath spent nearly 10 years with McKesson where his roles included managing 300 professionals that routinely had more than 225 projects simultaneously under way.

Anderton, who earlier in his career was a regional VP of sales for HMS, rejoins the company from Jackson Key Practice Solutions, an EHR sales, implementation and support company that he co-founded in 2009. Anderton has more than 15 years of healthcare IT experience, including his first tenure with HMS during which he was responsible for direct sales and sales management in the Eastern half of the U.S.

TeleTracking Promotes Divisional Head to COO

Michael Gallup, former SVP of real-time location systems at TeleTracking Technologies, a provider of patient-flow automation software and services, has been named president and COO of the company. He joined TeleTracking from Hill-Rom in 2010, where he was VP and general manager of Hill-Rom IT solutions, a global IT business unit. Previously, he held leadership positions at Hillenbrand Industries and IBM.

Change Healthcare Announces Hiring of Key Executives

Change Healthcare, the leading healthcare cost transparency and engagement company, hired three new executives to support the company's rapid growth and expansion into new market segments: William Seibels, CFO, Scott Shaffmaster, CTO, and Clayton Nicholas, VP of marketing and strategy.

Seibels most recently served as SVP of finance at Onlife Health, a provider of health and wellness services to health plans and self-insured employers. Prior to this, Seibels served as SVP of Guardian Home Care Holdings.

Shaffmaster most recently served as VP of IT service management at edo Interactive, a venture-backed company offering personalized discounts tied to the consumer's credit card, debit card or mobile device. Previously, Shaffmaster spent nearly 20 years at Emdeon, a leading provider of healthcare revenue and payment cycle management and clinical information exchange solutions.

Nicholas brings nearly two decades of experience as an entrepreneur and Fortune 50 executive. Most recently, he was executive director of clinical strategy and operations for Walgreens. Prior to that, he founded and sold incentives company Giving Tree, and held senior positions at Healthways and IBM in corporate development, sales and operations.

PracticeMax Announces Changes in Leadership Team

PracticeMax, a leading provider of a comprehensive suite of business solutions that help healthcare providers maximize their operations, today announced two changes in its senior leadership team. Rick White, who has been serving as President since the 2009 merger of MedaPhase and PracticeMax, has stepped down. In another move, the company appointed Patrick Lukacs, CPA, CHBME, to the position of SVP of Operations. Prior to this new role, Lukacs had been serving as VP of Software Services, where he directed the delivery of leading EHR and PM solutions to PracticeMax customers.

NextGen Healthcare President Resigns

Scott Decker, president of NextGen Healthcare, a provider of EHR, practice management and revenue cycle management tools has resigned from the company. Decker has accepted an executive-level position at a non-competitive company within the healthcare sector. Decker joined the company approximately five years ago and was named president of the NextGen division in 2009. During his tenure, the company experienced rapid growth and solidified its leadership role in the healthcare IT sector. The company is currently seeking a successor for Decker’s position. In the interim, CEO Steven T. Plochocki assumeedd his responsibilities.

Silverlink Names Emdeon Exec as CRO and ITA Software Exec as CFO

Adam Hameed, former SVP of data and analytics solutions at Emdeon, a provider of health care revenue cycle management and clinical information exchange tools, has been named Chief Revenue Officer at Silverlink Communications, a provider of consumer health engagement technology and services.

Paul Fitzgerald, former VP of finance and treasurer at ITA Software, a software developer for the travel and airline industry, has been named CFO at the company.

34-Year Johnson & Johnson Veteran Appointed CEO of West Health

Nicholas Valeriani has been named CEO of West Health and the West Health Institute, a not-for-profit organization focused on developing medical devices and technologies. Valeriani established himself as a visionary health care leader over a 34-year career with Johnson & Johnson where he led several corporate functions and was a member of the corporation's Executive Committee as Corporate VP of Human Resources; Worldwide Chairman of Medical Devices & Diagnostics; and as VP of the Office of Strategy & Growth.  He was instrumental in identifying the global health care trends that led to the creation of a new wellness and prevention business platform and pioneering opportunities in the area of digital health.

Origin Healthcare Solutions Hires Two Senior Leaders

Origin Healthcare Solutions, a developer of health care revenue cycle management tools, hired Steve Brewer and Christine (Chris) Campbell, as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer and Chief Client Officer, respectively.

Steve most recently served as EVP at Merge Healthcare, a provider of enterprise imaging solutions, where he had overall responsibility for solutions management, marketing, strategy and business development. In addition, Steve has served as EVP of Sales at Allscripts and General Manager of the Practice Management Group at McKesson.

Chris joins Origin from Medical Present Value (MPV) where she served as Chief Client Officer and had full responsibility for client success, satisfaction and retention. Prior to MPV, Chris spent 9 years at ADP as VP of Client Services and VP of Client Experience.

Dora Vell
