Facebook CTO leaving

Facebook’s CTO, Bret Taylor, 32, will be leaving the social network company for a start-up with Kevin Gibbs, founder and tech lead of the Google App Engine and creator of Google Suggest. Taylor joined Facebook in 2009 as Director of Platform Products via the acquisition of FriendFeed which he founded. He had previously worked at Google as Group Product Manager and has a strong start-up background.

Mike Vernal will now oversee the Facebook platform, while Cory Ondreijka will head up mobile. Vernal joined Facebook in 2008 from Microsoft, leading the original Facebook Connect project and also working on platform efforts and the development of Open Graph. Ondrejka arrived at the company in 2010 through the acquisition of Walletin. He previously worked at Linden Labs on Second Life virtual worlds. 

Yahoo! hires Google Exec as Chief Revenue Officer as EVP, Americas leaves 

Yahoo! has hired Google executive, Michael Barrett, 50, as EVP and Chief Revenue Officer, responsible for ad revenue and global operations. He joined Google following the company’s acquisition of online-advertising firm Admeld in 2011, where he was the CEO and later led the integration efforts. 

He has previously worked at Fox Interactive Media as EVP and Chief Revenue Officer overseeing all properties including MySpace and FoxSports.com and worked closely with Yahoo’s current iCEO Ross Levinsohn. Before that, he served as EVP of Sales and Partnerships at AOL Media Networks and held senior sales positions at interactive leaders GeoCities and Disney Online. 

EVP of Yahoo! Americas, Rich Riley, 39, is leaving the company in wake of recent changes. He oversaw all go-to-market activities and operations for consumers, advertisers and partners in the region. He joined Yahoo! in 1999, when the company acquired the start-up he founded, which invented the Yahoo! Toolbar. Before being promoted as EVP for the Americas he was SVP & MD, EMEA business. 

International Game Technology Names Company President as COO 

Eric A. Berg, 48, has been appointed COO of International Game Technology, the Casino-game maker, and is no longer serving as President of the Company. He would be responsible for global services, IT and procurement, manufacturing, and product management. Before joining the company he previously held leadership positions like CEO at SunGard Availability Services, SVP & CAO at NCR Corporation, CIO & VP e-Commerce at Goodyear, Regional VP-Pacific Northwest at Frito Lay, Sales VP Designate & Zone Sales Leader at Frito Lay, Area Finance Director at Frito Lay, Senior Engagement Manager at McKinsey and Health Industry Marketing Representative at IBM. 

NetFlix Promotes Senior Execs 

Netflix promoted Bill Holmes to a new role as Chief Business Development Officer. Holmes, who joined Netflix in 2008, has been serving as VP – Business Development. Prior to Netflix, he was VP Business Development & Strategy at DivX and Senior Director, Product development for Digital Entertainment Solutions, Hollywood. 

Cindy Holland assumed a new role as VP of Original Content and VP of Content Acquisition. Holland, a 10 year Netflix veteran, previously oversaw domestic TV licensing for Netflix after starting her career at the company in DVD acquisition. Before Netflix, she held various business and creative development roles at e-commerce startup Kozmo.com and for film production companies including Mutual Film Company and Baltimore/Spring Creek. 

Jason Ropell, who joined Netflix last year, will assume Holland's former responsibilities for managing TV licensing relationships in the company's largest market and will continue to oversee content acquisition for Canada. 

Chinese Social Network Company Names New Director 

Renren, a social network company in China, appointed Chuanfu Wang, 46, as an independent director. He is the founder, Chairman and CEO of China based BYD Company, manufacturer for rechargeable batteries as well as handset components and assembly services .

Mr. Wang will replace Ruigang Li, 41, who resigned from the Board. Mr. Li has served as the chairman of China Media Capital and director of WPP. He is the former President of Shanghai Media Group. 

Marketing Technology Company Appoints UK Head 

Marketing technology company Acxiom appointed Christian Peck as VP and MD for United Kingdom. Prior to joining Acxiom, he held the positions of MD UK at ad pepper media, Corporate VP Europe - Business Operations, Technology & Products at AOL, MD & VP Advertiser Solutions UK & EMEA at Microsoft, MD & VP UK & EMEA at aQuantive, Group Director UK (Publicis Groupe) at Zed Media, Head Online (i-Trade) at Optimedia (Publicis Groupe) UK and Head Online at WWAV Rapp Collins. 

Yelp’s new Director, Campaign Advisor to President Obama 

Yelp, a social network that connects people with local businesses, appointed Robert Gibbs to its board of directors. He is a senior campaign advisor to President Barack Obama. He served as the 28th White House Press Secretary. He was the communications director for then- U.S. Senator Obama and for Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. Previously, he was Press Secretary of John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign and has specialized in Senate campaigns, having served as Communications Director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and for four individual Senate campaigns, including those of Obama in 2004 and Fritz Hollings in 1998. 

Revana Hires Chief Sales Officer from Rival ServiceSource 

Tech-enabled revenue management company Revana, a subsidiary of TeleTech appointed Matt Rosenberg to serve as its Chief Sales Officer. He joins Revana from ServiceSource, a cloud-powered service revenue management provider, where he formerly served as SVP of strategic sales. Prior to ServiceSource, he served as VP at Visage Mobile and held senior director roles at Vividence and PeoplePC. 

e-Commerce Company Makes Senior Leadership Changes 

Thrive World Wide names Bruce T. Dugan, 51, as CEO and Director, replacing Wendy Borow Johnson, who has resigned as CEO, President, Treasurer, and Board member. Most recently, he founded INTECH Creative, a web-centric software developer that specializes in online and mobile tools for social media, business workflow administration, and multi-platform integration. Prior to that, he has been CEO at Cloud Nine Productions, President at First Drum, Founder, EVP and COO at TFS America, Founder and President at Transcom Frieght Systems, and Founder and President at Worldway Freight Systems. 

James Stearrett, CPA, 50, has been appointed CFO and Treasurer. Most recently he was Latin America Controller at Epicor Software. In the past

He held positions like CFO- Buenos Aires, Argentina at Inicia, Director Mexico at Resources Global Professionals, Consulting Manager at Ernst & Young and Senior Consultant at Deloitte. 

eBay Exec appointed CTO at China's Leading Online Discount Retailing Company 

Vipshop named Daniel Kao as CTO. He has more than sixteen years' industry experience with leading e-commerce and Internet companies in the US and China. Before joining Vipshop, he was the director of site operation and quality engineering at eBay. Prior to that, he was the enterprise architect for Acellops which provides integrated data center and cloud service monitoring software solutions. He co-founded AdChina, an integrated internet advertising platform in China, where he also served as the CTO. Earlier he worked at eBay as a principle software engineer and software development manager. 

Orbitz Worldwide Appoints iCFO 

The online travel company appointed David Belmont as Interim CFO and Principal Financial Officer, to succeed outgoing CFO Russ Hammer, 55, who joins footwear retailer Brown Shoe. Prior to being appointed Interim CFO, Mr. Belmont has served as the Company's Group VP, Financial Planning & Analysis and VP, Business Planning. Before joining the Company, he served as Director, Corporate Planning at Cendant 

Mike Nelson, 44, has resigned as the Company's President, Partner Services Group. Before becoming the President, he was Global COO, International COO, and VP of Business Development at Orbitz. Prior to joining Orbitz he was Operations Controller at Deluxe Corporation, Finance Manager at Pillsbury and Auditor at Arthur Andersen. 

Bazaarvoice Hires Chief People Officer 

Bazaarvoice, the social commerce company, appointed Ryan Robinson as Chief People Officer. Prior to this he was VP, HR at HP. He also held positions like VP Learning and Development, Talent Management at HP and VP HR Leadership at Compaq. 

B2C Social Network Company Hires New Board Member 

Ephraim Lindenbaum, 43, Silicon Valley venture capitalist and former serial entrepreneur, has joined the B2C social network company Bizzingo’s board of directors. He is the founder and MD of Advance Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based venture investment and development firm. Prior to founding Advance Ventures, he was the co-founder of interactive media pioneer Broadcast Production Group and served as CEO until its acquisition by Parago, a leading global engagement management company. 

Safe Communications Appoints Videogame Industry Veteran as VP, product Development 

Safe Communications appointed videogame industry veteran Joe Ybarra, 58, as VP of Product Development. Ybarra has held senior positions with numerous videogame industry market leaders, including SVP, Strategic Operations at Cheyenne Mountain, President of Infocom. He was one of the initial game developers at Electronic Arts which he joined after leaving Apple. At Electronic Arts he pioneered software development processes, and produced several highly acclaimed and popular games, such as M.U.L.E., Julius Erving and Larry Bird Go One on One, The Bard's Tale, Starflight and John Madden Football. 

Social Media Marketing Company Elects New Director 

Ed Sim was elected to the Board of Izea, the social media marketing company. He is a founding member and Managing Partner of BOLDstart Ventures and Dawntreader Ventures. He is a former director of Answers Corporation, Greenplum, GoToMyPC/GoToMeeting, Moreover Technologies, LivePerson, Gizmo5, and Flashbase. 

Rounder's President Resigns 

Social gaming company Rounder's President Donald Baruch resigns. Former President, CEO at Valkyrie Alliance, a MMORPG Game Online guild. Before joining Valkyrie Alliance, he was a Mediator at Final Table Mediation, President at Baruch Holdings, President/Owner at Atlanta Bread Company, Director of Operations at McDonalds, and Market Manager at Taco Bell. 

Virtual Piggy Appoints New Director 

Virtual Piggy, the provider of online spending account for children, appointed Darr Aley to the company's board of directors. While Head of Corporate Development and M&A at Amazon, Aley was responsible for leading and managing negotiations for several of the first acquisitions that expanded Amazon's global footprint in retail and technology. Prior to this he was hired out of Accenture by Amazon to help build their e-Commerce ASP Services business. Aley is the co-founder of RapidBuyr, a B2B daily deal site. He also serves as the Co-Chairman of American Mojo. 

The company also appointed Stedman Graham to its Board of Advisors. Mr. Graham is a New York Times best selling author, leadership speaker and entrepreneur. He is the CEO of S.Graham Associates, an education company focused on youth leadership and identity development.  He is an active participant in the Economic Club of Chicago. 

Next 1 Interactive Adds New Members to Board 

Next 1 Interactive, the interactive media company focused on real estate and travel, appointed Doug Checkeris and Phil Bliss to its Board of Directors. Phil Bliss' background includes President of Academia, which has created numerous University websites. Phil is a technology, marketing, and business strategist, his track record including many technology, educational, non-profit, and American Indian companies including the Smithsonian Institution, University of Toronto, Brock University, Microsoft, NEC, Samsung, and Cisco Systems. 

Doug Checkeris is a Senior Media and Advertising Executive with nearly three decades of hands-on management in all facets of interactive media. Doug's work experience includes 14 years of service with Mediacom where he rose through the ranks to become the CEO for Mediacom North America. Previous to Mediacom, Doug started his career in a media company in Toronto, Canada, and was a partner when the company was acquired by Grey Worldwide and the WPP. 

Online Financial News Company Appoints Internet and Ad Industry Experts to Board

TheStreet appointed Mark Walsh, 58, and Sarah Fay, 49, to Board. Mark Walsh is CEO and co-founder of GeniusRocket, a leader in crowdsourced advertising media. Before GeniusRocket, he served as Chairman and CEO of VerticalNet and before that, as a SVP and Corporate Officer at America Online. He also was the President of GEnie, General Electric's online service, and as director of New Business Development at HBO. He got into the internet business in 1986, and was GM and CEO of several internet and technology start ups. Active in politics and policy, he was the first CTO of the Democratic National Committee, Head of Internet Strategy for John Kerry's campaign for President and founding CEO of Air America Radio. He recently also joined the board of directors of the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington. 

Sarah Fay has served as CEO of Aegis Media North America, a marketing services company. Prior to that, she served as CEO and President of Carat and Isobar, divisions of Aegis. Since leaving Aegis she has served on the boards of a number of digital advertising, marketing and technology companies, including NeoMedia Technologies, a mobile barcode technology company.

Dora Vell
