Recognized IT Leader Named COO at BNY Mellon

BNY Mellon has named Edward Watson, 51, as EVP and COO. He most recently was EVP for operations, technology and general services for Fannie Mae. He was recently was named to Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2012. Watson previously served as Global Head of Capital Markets Operations and ICG business services at Citigroup and held senior positions at Republic Bank and Shearson Lehman Brothers.

Deere & Company Creates CIO Position

Deere & Company, manufacturer of agricultural machinery, appointed John C. May as President Agricultural Solutions & CIO – a new senior executive position. He has been VP, Global Platform – Turf & Utility, Agriculture and Turf Division, responsible for product management, manufacturing, and engineering for the turf and utility platform of products for Deere's global agriculture and turf equipment operations. He has been serving the company since 1997.

IT Specialist from Financial Services Industry Hired by Associated Banc-Corp

Associated Banc-Corp appointed James Yee to the role of EVP, Chief Information and Operations Officer. Yee brings 37 years leadership experience in the management of IT and back office operations in the financial services industry, including more than 15 years’ experience as a CIO. Most recently, he held the position of EVP and CIO with Union Bank in California. He has worked in IT and operations capacities at Charles Schwab & Company, Pacific Exchange, Banc of America Securities, and Stanford University Hospital & Medical Center, Chase Manhattan Bank (J.P. Morgan Chase).

eBay Exec appointed CTO at China's Leading Online Discount Retailing Company

Vipshop named Daniel Kao as CTO. He has more than sixteen years' industry experience with leading e-commerce and Internet companies in the US and China. Before joining Vipshop, he was the director of site operation and quality engineering at eBay. Prior to that, he was the enterprise architect for Acellops which provides integrated data center and cloud service monitoring software solutions. He co-founded AdChina, an integrated internet advertising platform in China, where he also served as the CTO. Earlier he worked at eBay as a principle software engineer and software development manager.

Vocera appoints CIO from Dell Subsidiary Force10 Networks

Vocera Communications, the healthcare communication solutions company, names Steven Soderberg as CIO. Soderberg will lead Vocera's global initiatives for deployment of enterprise class business applications. He joins Vocera from Force10 Networks, a Dell Subsidiary. Prior to joining Force10, he held the position of CIO at PGP Corporation, Otis Spunkmeyer and the Robert Mondavi Company. He has been a member of the Consortium of Information Systems Executives (CISE) - Silicon Valley.

Artesian Resources Promotes IT Executive

Artesian Resources, the water, wastewater services company, promoted Pierre A. Anderson to VP-IT. Anderson previously served as Director of IT at the company. He came to the company after his tenure as Manager of Project & Support Services for Christina School District, Delaware. His prior experience includes roles within the Technology Planning, Telecommunications, Software Development, and Technology Management Development departments of the technology division of MBNA America (now part of Bank of America).

Construction Consulting Firm Promotes VP-IT to CIO

Hill International promoted Shawn L. Pressley, PSP, to SVP and CIO. Previously, he was Hill's VP of IT. He is a civil engineer with more than 12 years of experience in project management systems and software.

Medical Management and Billing Company Names CTO

Spine Pain Management has appointed Dr. Eric Groteke, 40, the newly created corporate position of SVP of Sales and Marketing and CTO. He is SPIN's principal affiliate in Florida. He will oversee development of the SPIN model into new territories, optimize SPIN's billing IT, and, among other duties, implement throughout SPIN his proprietary patent-pending "halo" system for documenting case treatments and facts during medical procedures, through an "IP video"-enhanced platform.

Video-on-demand Company Appoints CTO for Business Growth

Itonis, the video-on-demand company, appointed Corey Washington as its CTO, to support the Company's technology needs with an immediate focus on the IT development phase of several new projects and future planned acquisitions. Mr. Washington has more than 10 years of experience as a web developer in the IT Sector. He has been a web developer for 2 Los Angeles newspapers and is a recipient of the Scripps Howard Award.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
