New Lead Director at Corning

Corning appointed Gordon Gund, 72, as Lead Director as William D. Smithburg, 73, Retired Chairman, President and CEO of the Quaker Oats Company, retired from the Corning Board after serving for 25 years. Mr. Gund is Chairman and CEO of Gund Investment, and has served on Corning's Board since 1990.

Adobe Appoints New Media Execs & Financial Heavyweight to Board

Adobe appointed three new board members Amy Banse, Frank Calderoni and Laura Desmond. Amy Banse, 51, serves as MD and head of funds, Comcast Ventures and SVP, Comcast Corporation. Prior to this role, she was President of Comcast Interactive Media (CIM), joining the company in 1991.

Frank Calderoni, 53, serves as EVP and CFO of Cisco. He joined Cisco in 2004 from QLogic, a storage networking company where he was SVP and CFO. Prior to that, he was SVP, Finance and Administration and CFO for SanDisk, a flash data storage company. Before joining SanDisk, Calderoni spent 21 years at IBM, where he became VP and held controller responsibilities for several divisions within the company.

Laura Desmond, 47, is the CEO of StarcomMediaVest Group (SMG), a global marketing services company, part of the Publicis Groupe. Prior to her appointment as global CEO she was CEO of SMG - Americas managing US, Canada and Latin America; CEO of MediaVest; and CEO of SMG's Latin America group.

LinkedIn CEO Appointed to Intuit Board

Intuit appointed Jeff Weiner, 42, CEO of LinkedIn, to its board. Weiner joined LinkedIn in 2008 and became CEO in 2009. Previously he was an executive in residence at Accel Partners and Greylock Partners. He also served as EVP of Yahoo's network division and, prior to that, helped build Warner Bros.' online efforts.

Nokia’s New Chairman is an Internet Security & Online Commerce Guru

Nokia appointed Risto Siilasmaa, 46, as new Chair to the board. He has been a Nokia board member since 2008 and is the founder of Internet security company F-Secure. He has been President and CEO of F-Secure from 1988 to 2006, and now serves as the Chair to the board. He is also Chairman at Fruugo, an e-commerce company. He succeeds Jorma Ollila, 61, who has been Nokia's Board Chairman since 1999.

Freescale Semiconductor Appoints New Director

Freescale Semiconductor appointed John T. Dickson to its Board. He came out of retirement to serve as EVP and head of Operations of Alcatel-Lucent, from 2010 until Jan, 2012. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of Agere Systems, a leader in semiconductors and software solutions for storage, mobility and networking markets, a position he held from August 2000 until he retired in October 2005. Prior to joining Agere, he held positions as EVP and CEO of Lucent’s Microelectronics and Communications Technologies Group; VP of AT&T’s integrated circuit business unit; and Chairman and CEO of SHOgraphics, a developer of three-dimensional graphics systems, as well as senior roles with ICL, a computer hardware, software and service company in UK and Texas Instruments in Europe.

Parametric Technology Implements Chairman Succession Plan

As part of Parametric Technology, the product lifecycle management software company’s succession plan, Donald K. Grierson, 71, the company’s Lead Independent Director, assumed the role of Chairman following the retirement of Executive Chairman, C. Richard Harrison, 55. Grierson has served on PTC's board for 25 years and was CEO of ABB Vetco International, SVP Group Executive at GE, has been involved in several high-tech venture capital companies.

Harrison has served as PTC's Executive Chairman since 2010. He served as PTC's CEO from 2000 to 2010. Before that he spent six years as PTC's President and COO. He joined PTC in 1987 as VP of Sales Distribution.

Diebold Appoints New Board Member

Diebold elected Rajesh K. Soin, 63, Founder, Chairman and CEO, Soin International, to its board. He founded Soin International in 1984, and has been its Chairman since 1998. He co-founded MTC Technologies the same year and served as CEO till 2002. He started his business career in 1971 with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company as an Industrial Engineer before joining Williams International as Manager of Corporate Systems in 1978.

AllScripts elects New Chairman and Board Members

AllScripts elected Dennis Chookaszian, 67, as Chairman after Phil Pead was dismissed from the position. Chookaszian joined the board in 2010. He currently serves as a Director of CME Group, LoopNet, Insweb, and Career Education Corporation. Previously, he served as Chairman and CEO of mPower, Chairman and CEO of CNA Insurance, and as Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (FASAC).

The Board also appointed Paul M. Black, former COO of Cerner Corporation, and The Hon. Robert J. Cindrich (Ret.), former SVP and Chief Legal Officer for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), as directors.

Mr. Black currently serves as Operating Executive of Genstar Capital, a PE firm, and as Senior Advisor at New Mountain Finance Corporation, an investment management company. Prior to joining Genstar, Mr. Black spent over 13 years with Cerner Corporation and retired as its COO in 2007. Prior to Cerner, he was with IBM from 1982 to 1994 in a number of senior sales and professional services leadership positions.

Mr. Cindrich is the former SVP and Chief Legal Officer for UPMC, and currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Office of the President of UPMC. Prior to UPMC, he served as a judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania for 10 years.

JDA Software Brings New Investor to Board and Creates Lead Director Role with Domain Expert

JDA Software also appointed Arthur C. Young, 42, to its board, replacing Douglas G. Marlin, 64, who retired after 11 years of service. Young is a Managing Partner of Blum Capital, where he monitors public investments. Prior to Blum, he has been a Partner at Blavin & Company, investment principal at Fir Tree Partners, Consultant at McKinsey, and litigation associate at Greenberg Traurig.

The company appointed Richard M. Haddrill, 57, to the newly created position of Lead Independent Director of the board. He currently serves as CEO of Bally Technologies since 2004. Previously he has been CEO of Manhattan Associates and Powerhouse Technologies and an Area Managing Partner for Ernst & Young.

MarketAxess Board Changes

Nicolas S. Rohatyn, 50, is leaving the board of MarketAxess, the electronic trading platform operator. He has been a director since April 2000. He has been the CEO and Chief Investment Officer of TRG Management, Investment Manager of TRG Global Opportunity Master Fund, and held a series of positions at JPMorgan, most recently as Executive Director of JPMorgan.

Steven L. Begleiter has been appointed to the company’s Board. He is a Senior Principal at Flexpoint Ford since 2008. Prior to joining Flexpoint Ford, he has been a Senior MD and also served the Corporate Strategy Group at Bear Stearns & Co.

Cornerstone OnDemand Names Concur Technologies CEO to Board

Cornerstone OnDemand named Steve Singh, CEO and Chairman of Online travel and expense management provider Concur Technologies to its board. Singh has served as CEO of Concur since 1996 and as a director since 1993. Prior to his role with Concur, Singh was GM of the Contact Management Division at Symantec.

Ancestry.com Names Renowned Genomics Expert as Director

Online family history resource company Ancestry.com names renowned genomics expert Dr. Paul R. Billings to the Company's Board of Directors. Billings serves as Chief Medical Officer at Life Technologies and has extensive expertise and clinical experience in the areas of genomics and molecular medicine. Prior to joining Life Technologies, he was CEO of CELLectiveDx, prior to which he was SVP of Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings. He is the author of nearly 200 publications and books on genomic medicine.

Board changes at Bazaarvoice

Social Analytics Platform Provider Bazaarvoice appointed Abhishek Agrawal as a member of the Board. Agrawal is a Principal at General Atlantic, a global growth equity firm, which invested in Bazaarvoice at its IPO in February 2012. Agrawal has been closely involved with General Atlantic’s investments in the Internet and technology sector and brings extensive financial and strategic advisory experience to his role. Prior to joining General Atlantic in 2005, Agrawal was with Lazard Technology Partners, an Internet and technology focused venture capital firm, and was in Lazard's investment banking group where he provided mergers and acquisitions-related financial and strategic advisory services to companies in the technology, media, and telecommunications sectors.

Bazaarvoice also announced TIBCO’s CFO Sydney Carey, 46, to its board.  A seasoned corporate finance and strategy executive, prior to TIBCO, she was CFO of Vernier Networks, Pacific Broadband Communications and Entera. Carey also held a variety of positions with Network Associates, including VP of Worldwide Sales Finance and Operations.

Brooks Automation Appoints Hospital CEO as Director

Brooks Automation elected Ellen M. Zane, 59, to its Board. Ms. Zane recently retired as the President and CEO of Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children in Boston, and currently serves on its board of trustees as Vice Chairman. Prior to joining Tufts Medical Center, Ms. Zane held the position of Network President for Partners HealthCare System. Ms. Zane was also recently named one of the ten most powerful women in healthcare by HealthExecNews.com.

Experienced Tech CEO named to Emulex board

Storage networking products company Emulex appointed industry leader Beatriz Infante, 57, to its Board of Directors. Ms. Infante is the CEO of Business Excelleration, a business transformation consultancy she founded in 2009, and also serves as director at Sonus Networks. Prior to these roles, she was the CEO and director of ENXSuite, a leading supplier of energy management solutions, until its acquisition by Infor in 2011. She also served as CEO of VoiceObjects; Interim CEO of Sychron; Chairman, President and CEO of Aspect Communications; and several roles including SVP, Application Servers at Oracle.

Thrive World Wide Elects Newly Appointed CEO to board

e-commerce company Thrive World Wide named newly appointed CEO Bruce T. Dugan to its board. Mr. Dugan is a seasoned entrepreneur and business leader who previously founded and operated transportation and freight logistics companies that served industry leaders such as Dupont, Sumitomo, MSC, and ExhibitGroup. Most recently, he founded INTECH Creative, a web-centric software developer that specializes in online and mobile tools for social media, business workflow administration, and multi-platform integration.

SMART Technologies Founder named Vice Chair and COO Named iCEO

Nancy Knowlton, a co-founder and current CEO of the electronic whiteboard maker, announced that she is leaving her executive role and will now be the Vice-Chairman of the board. Smart’s COO Tom Hodson has been named interim CEO and the company hopes to appoint a new head later this year.

RadiSys Welcomes Financial and Former Bain Telecom Expert to Board

Wireless Infrastructure provider Radisys appointed Hubert de Pesquidoux, former CFO of Alcatel-Lucent and President for Enterprise Business, to its Board. Currently he is CEO of HDP Consulting. During his nearly 20-year tenure at Alcatel-Lucent he held positions like: North America President and CEO, Canada CEO, USA CFO.

The company also appointed Vincent H. Tobkin, 59, to its board. Mr. Tobkin brings a vast knowledge of the telecom industry. He is the owner of Tobkin Enterprises which is an advisor to several companies and management teams. Prior to this role, he was a Senior Advisor, Director and Global Telecom/Technology Practice Leader of Bain & Company, General Partner and Co-Founder of Sierra Ventures, a leading venture capital firm, and a partner at McKinsey.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.
