DIRECTV Appoints Head of Digital Entertainment Products

Tony Goncalves is now SVP, Digital Entertainment Products at DIRECTV. Most recently, he served as the SVP, Product Management. Goncalves joined DIRECTV in 2007 and has held various positions in sales and product management. Goncalves was a key player in securing DIRECTV's partnership with AT&T and led the team that closed the CenturyLink partnership. 

BNY Mellon Names Veteran as CIO

BNY Mellon has named Suresh Kumar, 54, as CIO. He has been CIO for the company's Financial Markets and Treasury Services, as well as its Pershing unit. He joined the company in 1986 and was the chief architect of Pershing's technology platform NetX360. He will continue to serve as CEO of iNautix, the tech affiliate of BNY Mellon. Previously, he was CIO at CSFBdirect and DLJdirect.

American Electric Power Hires CIO from BlueStar Energy

Alberto Ruocco, 50, has been named VP & CIO for American Electric Power. He is the current CIO of BlueStar Energy. He replaces Pablo A. Vegas, who was named President and COO of AEP Ohio. Previously, Ruocco was an EVP for Revere Group, the Chicago-based business and IT subsidiary of NTT DATA. Before that, he was a Senior Manager in Deloitte's CIO Advisory practice and VP of Process & IT at Kerry Americas, a wholesale supplier of food ingredients to the global market.

Gas & Chemicals Provider Air Products Appoints VP, IT & CIO

Air Products appointed Kevin B. Michaelis as VP, IT and CIO. Most recently, he was the Regional VP, Liquid Bulk/Generated Gases‒Europe. Before that, he was the GM of Global Generated Gases and GM of WW Equipment. He joined Air Products in 1989 as a Project Engineer in the Gases and Equipment division.

Fiserv Hires CIO from Ally Financial

Fiserv appointed Cliff Skelton, 54, as EVP & CIO. He replaces Maryann Goebel, 62, who will serve as an advisor to the company until her retirement in the middle of this year. Most recently, Skelton was Global Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Ally Financial. Previously, he was with Bank of America and also had a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy.

USF Holland Veteran Named CIO at Kansas City Southern

Kansas City Southern Railway appointed Michael J. Naatz as SVP & CIO. Naatz joins KCS from USF Holland, a subsidiary of YRC Worldwide which specializes in shipping and transportation. Naatz was made President of USF Holland last year. He worked for USF Corp. for 11 years until YRC bought the company in 2005. He also worked as Chief Integration Officer for the Yellow-Roadway combination and as President of YRC’s customer care division.

Former UBS & Bank of America Exec Named CIO at CIT Finance

CIT Group appointed Stacey Goodman, 49, as EVP & CIO. Prior to CIT, Goodman served as MD of Global Technology & Operations at Bank of America. Before that, she was MD of IT at UBS. She also served as Department Head of Global Fixed Income at BT Alex Brown and has held other senior level positions with various financial institutions over the course of her 26 year career.

Towers Watson Appoints Industry Veteran as CIO

Towers Watson, a leading professional services firm, appointed John Dick as CIO. Dick brings more than 30 years of experience in IT, financial services and consulting to Towers Watson. He has been CIO for Western Union, Regions Financial and GMAC NA. He has also held senior leadership and consulting positions at Wells Fargo, PWC and Suntrust.

Covance Appoints CFO as CIO

Covance, a biopharmaceutical development services company, has selected Corporate SVP & CFO Bill Klitgaard, 57, as the new SVP & CIO. During Klitgaard's 15 years at Covance, including his 12 years as CFO, he demonstrated a wide range of financial, strategic, and IT skills. Prior to Covance, he was with Kenetech Corporation and Consolidated Freightways.

AOL Appoints CTO with Strong Publishing/Education/Online Credentials

AOL appointed iCTO Curtis Brown, 40, as EVP & CTO. Brown is an accomplished technology leader with over 20 years experience building and managing global technology teams, products, data, systems, infrastructure, and consumer web sites. He has served as CTO at Skymall, Oxygen Media, The Princeton Review, CTB/McGraw-Hill and Kaplan Test Prep.

Associated Banc-Corp CIO Resigns

Mark D. Quinlan, 50, resigned as EVP and Chief Information & Operations Officer of Associated Banc-Corp. Quinlan previously served as a consultant and interim CTO to Sky Financial Group and CIO for Charter One Bank.

Agilysys Appoints Former Cloud Microsoft Exec as SVP, Tech

Agilysys appointed Larry Steinberg as SVP of Technology. Most recently, Steinberg served as a Development Manager for Microsoft, where he focused on automation, interoperability, cross-platform initiatives, and cloud and data center management solutions. Steinberg joined Microsoft through its acquisition of Engyro, where he had served as CTO.

FICO Consultant Named CTO

FICO, a provider of analytics and decision making services, has named Dr. Stuart Wells as EVP & CTO. He succeeds Deborah Kerr, who will serve in a consultative capacity until her departure at the end of this year. Before joining FICO, Wells, who held product development, product marketing, market development and consulting services positions with Sun Microsystems, Avaya and other technology companies.

Clinical Data Software Company M*Modal Appoints CIO

Clinical data software company M*Modal appointed Chuck Musciano as CIO. He replaces Kevin Piltz, who resigned. Musciano previously served as CIO of Martin Marietta Materials and American Kennel Club.

TheStreet Appoints EDGAR Online Exec as CTO

The online financial news company TheStreet appointed Stefan Chopin, 52, as CTO. Most recently, he was the CTO of EDGAR Online. Before that, he was Partner & CTO of Deep Harbor Partners. Previously, he was SVP of Technology for iXL Enterprises, an e-business solutions provider. He has also served as the President and Founder of Pequot Systems and VP of Engineering for Micrognosis.

Comverge Long-time CTO Resigns

Arthur Vos, IV resigned as CTO & SVP of Utility Sales at Comverge. Vos joined Comverge in 2003 after it acquired Sixth Dimension a company which he co-founded. While at Sixth Dimension, he served as the VP of Marketing, Products and Strategy.

ADDvantage Technologies Group Appoints Board Chair as CTO

ADDvantage Technologies Group, a provider of CATV equipment, announced that David Chymiak, 65, has been selected as the new CTO. He has been Chairman at the company since 1999.

Cloud Data Storage Provider IceWEB Hires CTO

IceWEB has appointed Gaurang Mehta as CTO. Mehta brings over 20 years of engineering and operations experience to IceWEB. Most recently, Mehta was VP at Promark Technology, an IceWEB distribution partner.

Cybersecurity Firm Appoints U.S. Intelligence Community Veteran as CTO

ISC8 has appointed Alissa Valentina Knight as CTO. Prior to ISC8, Knight worked with the U.S. Intelligence Community in counter-terrorism. She is also a serial entrepreneur, having started and sold two previous companies in the cybersecurity industry.

Digital Development Group Appoints CTO

Digital Development Group, a provider of content for Internet TV, appointed Richard Verdoni as CTO. Verdoni has an extensive background in technology development and innovation. His various accomplishments include new methods for rotoscoping, sprite development and color computation. He is a former Consultant at DIVATV, an SRI spin-off, which was eventually sold to Comcast and was one of the first adopters of IPTV. Before that, Richard was a partner at a number of successful multimedia start-ups.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
