Ubiquiti Networks Selects New Board Member and General Counsel

Ubiquiti Networks, a multinational technology company, announced that Bill Gurley, 45, has joined the company's Board of Directors. Currently, Gurley serves as a General Partner at Benchmark Capital and sits on the board of directors of Demandforce, Opentable, Uber, and Zillow. Prior to working in venture capital, he was a Research Analyst on Wall Street and covered companies such as Dell, Compaq, Microsoft, and Amazon. Earlier in his career, Gurley was a Design Engineer at Compaq Computer.

The company also named Jessica Zhou as General Counsel & VP of Legal Affairs. Most recently, she served as the General Counsel of Canadian Solar, one of the world's largest solar companies. Prior to Canadian Solar, Zhou practiced corporate and securities law at Latham & Watkins LLP and other leading international firms.

Former Cisco and IBM Exec Joins Plantronics as CMO

Plantronics has appointed Marilyn Mersereau as the company’s new Chief Marketing Officer. Most recently, she served as Chief Marketing Officer at C3 Energy Management, a leading provider of energy and emissions management software solutions. Before joining C3 Energy, Mersereau was the SVP of Corporate Marketing at Cisco. Prior to Cisco, she held several marketing roles at IBM, including VP of Integrated Marketing for the Americas and VP of Marketing for IBM Canada. Earlier in her career, she held marketing roles with Coca-Cola and Burger King.

Wireless Technologies Developer Hires Former HP Exec

InterDigital Communications has selected Allen Proithis to serve as VP of Business Development & Strategic Solutions. Prior to joining InterDigital, Proithis was Senior Director of Strategy & Business Development in the Consumer Devices division at TE Connectivity. Before joining TE, he held several positions at HP, including Head of Strategy & Business Development for the Handheld Business Unit and Director of Business Development for HP's Personal Systems Group. Earlier in his career, he served as VP of HB Associates, an executive search firm, where he helped launch the company’s telecommunications and technology practice.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
