Terry Myerson is taking over as Corporate VP of Windows Phone. Previously, Myerson was the Head of Windows Phone 7.0 and of the Windows Phone 7.5 handsets division. Prior to leading the Windows Phone team, he led the Exchange team for eight years. Myerson joined Microsoft in 1997 after the acquisition of Intersé, a computer software company which he founded.
Microsoft also announced that Gavin Kim has joined the company as GM of the Windows Phone Team. Prior to this appointment, Kim was the VP of Consumer & Enterprise Services at Samsung. While at Samsung, he was instrumental in launching the Galaxy S II phones and Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet. He has also served as the VP of Telecom at Advanced Technology Ventures and as the Director of Product Operations at Motorola.
CEO Assumes Chairman Role at Verizon; New Board Member Elected
Verizon has confirmed that CEO Lowell McAdam, 56, has replaced Ivan Seidenberg, 65, as Chairman of the Board. Before becoming CEO, McAdam held the titles of COO of Verizon and EVP, COO, and CEO of Verizon Wireless. Prior to joining Verizon, he was the CEO of Primeco, a wireless joint venture between AirTouch and Bell Atlantic.
The company also named Melanie Healey, 50, to its Board. Currently, Healey serves at Procter & Gamble as Group President of North America and Global Hyper, Super, Mass Channel. She also serves on the boards of P&G, Verizon, and Bacardi. Since joining P&G in 1990, she has held senior roles in the Feminine, Healthcare, and Adult Care divisions. Healey was named one of Forbes’ Top 50 Most Powerful Women Leaders and one of Wall Street Journal’s Top 50 Women to Watch.
Founding Member Resigns from Qualcomm Board
Qualcomm announced that co-founder Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, 78, has resigned from the company’s Board. He served as CEO of Qualcomm from 1985 to 2005 and as Chairman until 2009. Early in his career, Jacobs co-founded Linkabit, a designer and developer of communications equipment which was later sold to M/A-Com. Jacobs is currently Chair of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and of the National Academy of Engineering. He has received many business accolades over the years, including the National Medal of Technology in 1994, the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell medal in 1995, the Financial Times Lifetime Achievement award (for 25 years in Telecommunications) in 2005, the IEEE and Royal Society of Edinburgh James Clerk Maxwell Award in 2007, and the Marconi Society Prize in 2011.
MSN Executive Leaves for Yell
Scott Moore, an Executive Producer at Microsoft's MSN group, is leaving the company to become Chief Digital Officer of Yell, a British directory and advertising company. Moore worked at Microsoft from 1995 to 2005, when he left to lead Yahoo's media business in California. He rejoined Microsoft in early 2009 as a Partner and Executive Producer of MSN.
EVP Leaves HP
HP announced the resignation of its EVP & General Counsel, Michael Holston. The company has appointed David Healy, a Partner & Co-Chair of the M&A Group at Fenwick & West, to serve as General Counsel on an interim basis. Healy represented HP during its recent acquisition of Vertica. He has represented a variety of public technology companies, including Sun Microsystems, Dell, and Cadence Design Systems.
CA Designates New PAO
CA Technologies has promoted Neil Manna, 48, as Principal Accounting Officer. He has served as the company's SVP & CAO since 2008. Earlier in his career, Manna was the VP of Worldwide Accounting at RealNetworks. Prior to joining RealNetworks, he was the CFO of TimePlus, a privately held software developer and provider of outsourced payroll services. Manna has also served as the Director of Finance at Intuit.
Cisco Hires SVP for New Division
Cisco announced that it has hired Chris Young to serve as SVP of the newly formed Cisco Security Group. Young comes to Cisco from VMware, where he was the SVP & GM of End User Computing. At VMware, he was responsible for strategy, products, engineering, and delivery for all end user computing solutions. Prior to joining VMware, Young was SVP at RSA, the security division of EMC. He also sits on the Board of Directors for Rapid 7, a provider of security risk intelligence solutions.
