Microsoft Adds to Windows Phone Team

Microsoft has promoted Andrew Lees to President of Windows Phone and Windows 8. In the past, he has served as Corporate VP of the Microsoft Server & Tools Marketing and Solutions Group. Prior to joining the Server & Tools Group, Lees held a variety of different roles within the Worldwide Sales, Marketing and Services Group. He joined Microsoft in 1990 and spent 10 years at Microsoft U.K.

Terry Myerson is taking over as Corporate VP of Windows Phone. Previously, Myerson was the Head of Windows Phone 7.0 and of the Windows Phone 7.5 handsets division. Prior to leading the Windows Phone team, he led the Exchange team for eight years. Myerson joined Microsoft in 1997 after the acquisition of Intersé, a computer software company which he founded.

Microsoft also announced that Gavin Kim has joined the company as GM of the Windows Phone Team. Prior to this appointment, Kim was the VP of Consumer & Enterprise Services at Samsung. While at Samsung, he was instrumental in launching the Galaxy S II phones and Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet. He has also served as the VP of Telecom at Advanced Technology Ventures and as the Director of Product Operations at Motorola.

MSN Executive Leaves for Yell

Scott Moore, an Executive Producer at Microsoft's MSN group, is leaving the company to become Chief Digital Officer of Yell, a British directory and advertising company. Moore worked at Microsoft from 1995 to 2005, when he left to lead Yahoo's media business in California. He rejoined Microsoft in early 2009 as a Partner and Executive Producer of MSN.

EVP Leaves HP

HP announced the resignation of its EVP & General Counsel, Michael Holston. The company has appointed David Healy, a Partner & Co-Chair of the M&A Group at Fenwick & West, to serve as General Counsel on an interim basis. Healy represented HP during its recent acquisition of Vertica. He has represented a variety of public technology companies, including Sun Microsystems, Dell, and Cadence Design Systems.

CA Designates New PAO

CA Technologies has promoted Neil Manna, 48, as Principal Accounting Officer. He has served as the company's SVP & CAO since 2008. Earlier in his career, Manna was the VP of Worldwide Accounting at RealNetworks. Prior to joining RealNetworks, he was the CFO of TimePlus, a privately held software developer and provider of outsourced payroll services. Manna has also served as the Director of Finance at Intuit.

EVP Leaves Red Hat

Alex Pinchev, 61, has announced his resignation as EVP & President of Global Sales, Services, and Field Marketing at Red Hat, an open source technology provider. He is leaving to become CEO of Acronis, a provider of data protection and disaster recovery for physical, virtual, and cloud environments. Before Red Hat, Pinchev was the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of MainControl, a technology infrastructure management software provider.

Autodesk Exec Joins Progress as CEO

Progress Software named Jay Bhatt, 42, as the company's new CEO. Most recently, he was SVP for Autodesk’s Global Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) Solutions business. Former CA & Oracle Exec Named CEO of Open Text

Open Text, an enterprise software company, has appointed Mark Barrenechea, 45, as its new CEO. Most recently, he was the CEO of Silicon Graphics International, a manufacturer of computer hardware and software. Before joining Silicon Graphics, Barrenechea was EVP & CTO at CA Technologies. He has also served as the SVP of Applications Development at Oracle.

VP of Marketing Resigns from BI Firm

Qlik Technologies announced the resignation of Douglas Laird, 49, as the VP of Marketing. Prior to joining Qlik, he served as the SVP of Marketing at SAP America, SpikeSource, and Virsa Systems. He has also served as the VP of Marketing at Siebel Systems and as the VP of Worldwide Marketing at Trapeze Networks. Laird has also held senior management roles at Oracle, Sybase, Novell, and Charles Schwab.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
