CEO Assumes Chairman Role at Verizon; New Board Member Elected

Verizon has confirmed that CEO Lowell McAdam, 56, has replaced Ivan Seidenberg, 65, as Chairman of the Board. Before becoming CEO, McAdam held the titles of COO of Verizon and EVP, COO, and CEO of Verizon Wireless. Prior to joining Verizon, he was the CEO of Primeco, a wireless joint venture between AirTouch and Bell Atlantic.

The company also named Melanie Healey, 50, to its Board. Currently, Healey serves at Procter & Gamble as Group President of North America and Global Hyper, Super, Mass Channel. She also serves on the boards of P&G, Verizon, and Bacardi. Since joining P&G in 1990, she has held senior roles in the Feminine, Healthcare, and Adult Care divisions. Healey was named as one of Forbes’ Top 50 Most Powerful Women Leaders and as one of Wall Street Journal’s Top 50 Women to Watch.

AT&T Promotes Veteran to VP, Canada Sales Centre

AT&T announced that it has selected David Aspinall to be the new Canada Sales Centre VP. Most recently, he served as the VP of Mobility Sales Centre for Washington & Chicago. Aspinall is a proven telecommunications professional with more than 15 years of experience working for major global corporations across multiple regions and countries.

Leading Integrated Telecom Operator Promotes Veteran as Deputy CEO & COO

VimpelCom has promoted Jan Edvard Thygesen, 58, to Deputy CEO & COO. He has been on VimpelCom's Board since 2008.  Most recently, Thygesen was EVP & Head of Central and Eastern European Operations at Telenor. Thygesen joined Telenor in 1970 and has served the company as CEO of Sonofon, Telenor Nordic Mobile, Telenor Invest, Telenor Networks, and Esat Digifone. Thygesen is also on the boards of DiGi and Uninor.

Leading US Phone Company Promotes Two Senior Directors

Telephone and Data Systems promoted Laurie Ruchti as VP of IT Strategy, Architecture, and Quality. Prior to this appointment, she was Senior Director of IT Strategy, Architecture, Quality, and Security. Earlier in her career, she was the Head of TDS' IT Application Development, Customer Service and Support, and IT Strategy departments.

The company also promoted Theodore Wiessing to VP & CISO. Most recently, he was the Senior Director of IT Application Development and Support. Prior to joining TDS in 2002, he held senior IT consulting positions with Accenture.

New COO at Cincinnati Bell Subsidiary

CyrusOne, an enterprise data center solutions provider, has hired Michael Duckett as the company's new COO. Prior to this appointment, Duckett was the President & COO of CoreLink Data Centers. At CoreLink, he was responsible for information technology operation, delivery, and P&L management. Before CoreLink, Duckett was with Terremark Worldwide as the SVP of Operations.


Former Logitech CFO on Seagate Board

Seagate Technology, a leading manufacturer of hard disks and storage solutions, appointed Kristen Onken, 62, to its Board. She is the former CFO of Logitech International. Prior to Logitech, Onken was VP of Finance at Fujitsu and Director of Finance at Sun Microsystems. She currently serves on the Board of Silicon Laboratories.

Investment Advisor Named Chairman of Storage Company

Crossroads Systems has appointed Steven Ledger as its new Chairman. He joined the company’s Board in 2010. Ledger is the Founder & Managing Partner of Tamalpais Partners, an investment advisor to emerging growth companies. Previously, he was a Managing Partner & Portfolio Manager at SF Sentry Investment Group and Kayne Anderson Investment Management. He began his career at Fidelity Management and Research as an Equity Research Analyst & Portfolio Manager.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
